Selena Gomez was secretly admitted to rehab in January, according to reports in a number of media outlets. The 21-year-old was admitted to a rehab facility in Arizona in order to seek treatment, if reports are to be believed. However, her representative has admitted she did enter the facility but not for substance abuse issues.

The former Disney star was admitted into Dawn at the Meadows rehabilitation facility in Arizona on January 5th of this year. Gomez's representative, speaking to E!, said "Selena voluntarily spent time at Meadows but not for substance abuse." She may have simply wished to enter the facility in order to take a break from her hectic schedule. This would certainly explain why she cancelled her concerts in Australia in December 2013. In an official statement the singer stated she had prioritised work and that she need some personal time, it read: "It has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be."

Her workload was referenced by a source, speaking to PEOPLE, who said "She's been working nonstop since she was 15 and she wants to take a minute to herself."

Gomez, according to sources, has been working non-stop since she was 16.

Gomez's close friend Demi Lovato has been supportive of her.  She seemed to indirectly tweeted her support when the news broke about Gomez's rehab stay. She wrote: "Weakness is living in denial. Only the strongest people ask for help."

The two friends caught up at the end of January and were spotted dining in Hollywood together. They both appeared in magazine articles and praised each other's strength of character. Perhaps this is precisely one of those instances and Lovato had Gomez's recent rehab visit in mind.
