Hollywood A-Lister Liam Neeson is also set to star, his latest animated appearence since he turned up in the hugely popular Lego Movie earlier this year. Julie Bowey ('Modern Family') and Allison Janney (American Beauty) are also slated to pop up in the episode.

A California production company are suing the filmmaker for allegedly stealing the premise of the vulgar talking teddy bear.

On Tuesday a lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, against MacFarlane and his company for copyright infringement.

To mark the launch of Edge of Tomorrow, Tom Cruise and his costar Emily Blunt held an unprecedented triple premiere on two continents in one day. They started Wednesday morning at 9am with the massive world premiere in central London, where the film is set, then dashed across to Paris for a second premiere a few hours later at the location of the film's climactic battle. A Million Ways To Die In The West is released today in the US and UK and will surely be a huge draw for fans who enjoyed Seth Macfarlane's last comedy, Ted. The Family Guy star's wicked and often inappropriate sense of humour proved a huge hit with his debut live action movie but critics have warned that the formula isn't necessarily repeated in the comedian's sophomore effort.

The comedy has hit a bum note on reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, accruing an embarrassing 33% rating amongst reviewers. The Telegraph's Tim Robey barks out angry and wounding soundbites such as "flatly atrocious" and "unamusing tumbleweed" but offers a nugget for the more immature fans: "if you want to find out how much scope the Old West contains for jokes about violent bowel movements, this is very much a movie for you."

The Guardian's Mike McCahill gives the movie a similarly low rating, saying "Fans of Ted's aggressively scattershot misanthropy may be left wanting by Seth MacFarlane's mock-western follow-up" before adding "the dragging pace means the overall hit rate is down on even late-period Family Guy."

Seth Macfarlane really wants to be a movie star. And we get it, we really do, but that isn’t enough to justify the existence of A Million Ways to Die in the West. Critics are pegging Macfarlane’s latest as “astonishingly lazy” (TIME Magazine) and “altogether wrongheaded” (Film School Rejects) and its overall 34% score on Rotten Tomatoes means that this one is easily skippable.

In the crossover episode, titled ‘The Simpsons Guy’, the Griffin family will travel to Springfield, where they become acquainted with the Simpson family. While Stewie and Bart bond over skateboards (and mischief, no doubt), Meg and Lisa will also become pals. Disgruntled wives Lois and Marge vow to abandon their household responsibilities (Thelma and Louise style, perhaps?) as their husbands initially make friends before, predictably, clashing.

The success of Seth Rogen’s Neighbors, which made a staggering $51 million over its debut weekend, proves that, when R-rated comedies work, they really work. The genre tends to be a bit hit-and-miss, but Rogen’s latest was a safe bet for Universal – his last foray into crude adult humor – This Is The End – made over $101 million domestically.

“It’s escapism, and when it works — and ‘Neighbors’ worked — comedies are just a great way for people to escape,” Nikki Rocco, head of domestic distribution for Universal, said for Variety.

Judging by social media activity, Sunday night’s Oscars were a huge success. Preliminary ratings released by Nielsen (via the Los Angeles Times) seemed to confirm this. The preliminary ratings aren’t completely reliable when it comes to live events, but they do indicate a 9% increase in viewing numbers from last year. Later in the day, CNN announced the final ratings – up 7% from last year, which is a promising uptick for a show that’s been slumming it for the past couple of years. Looks like Ellen has one more reason to celebrate this week – with pizza, of course.

Ellen has two more reasons to celebrate today.

In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, the 86th annual Academy Awards broadcast brought in a household rating of 27.9 from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m., up 7% from last year and marking the highest number since 2005. Calling on Ellen to host wasn’t exactly a risky decision, with the host’s near universal appeal, but it certainly paid off well for producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.

Awards season finally hit London on Sunday night as Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave collected three top awards at the London Critics' Circle Film Awards: Film of the Year, best actor Chiwetel Ejiofor and supporting actress for Lupita Nyong'o. Seth Macfarlane has admitted he was surprised by Family Guy fans' outrage to the temporary death of Brian the dog. The producer discussed the three-week hiatus during Monday's Television Critics Association's winter press tour.

"We were all very surprised  - in a good way - that people still cared about about that character to be that angry," he told reporters. "It didn't occur to us. We thought it would maybe create a little bit of a stir, but the rage was not something we counted on."

Let's get the spoiler alert out of the way, in case it wasn't immediately obvious: this article contains major spoilers for the November 24 episode of Family Guy. On Sunday night, the US audiences went through a traumatic experience – Family Guy’s Brian was killed off. For those of you, who are still oblivious to Family Guy (it’s been on for fourteen years, come on people) Brian is arguably the most clever and likable character and also the Griffins’ dog.

Rest in peace, Brian. You were a good dog.

We wouldn’t be the first to point out that main characters in sitcoms or animation don’t typically get killed off. Charlie Sheen’s character on Two and a Half Men is an exception, but animated dogs aren’t really prone to difficult contract negotiations or PR blunders. According to Family Guy EP Steve Callaghan speaking for E!News, the decision to have Brian hit by a car and prevent any possibility of his return was a creative one (earlier in the episode Stewie not-so-conveniently dismantled his time machine).

Fox has ordered a new animated series from Seth Macfarlane. The Family Guy creator will be working alongside Mark Hentemann on a new comedy series, Bordertown. The show will concern a fictitious town near- you guessed it -the US-Mexican border.

Seth MacFarlane's Bordertown will air on Fox in the 2014-2015 TV season.

MacFarlane, not known for shying away from controversial subjects, including the racist views held by some in the US regarding immigration, will focus on the relationship between a Border Patrol officer and an immigrant family next door as both adjust to the cultural changes around them. The show will satirise, according to TV Guide, 'America's cultural shifts through the evolving relationships between the two families.'

Sunday's glittering Tony Awards for theatrical performances brought four-time earned Neil Patrick Harris widespread critical acclaim, meaning The Muppetsactor could be a contender to host the 2014 Oscars.

As the anticipation for his sophomore film effort builds, Seth McFarlane reunites with Universal to co-write, direct, produce and star in A Million Ways to Die in the West. The studio has just recently come aboard to finance and distribute the western, but it isn’t exactly a risky bid for them, after McFarlane’s big screen debut Ted, starring Mark Wahlberg opposite an animated potty-mouthed teddy bear, became an international smash success and grossed $549 million worldwide. Obviously Hollywood is impressed with McFarlane’s work on Ted, as well as the animated series Family Guy and American Dad! because the writer managed to score some extremely coveted actors to fill the cast of Ways to Die. The list includes Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried, Sarah Silverman and Giovanni Ribisi.

According to Reuters, via Yahoo News, the film will tell the story of a sheep farmer named Albert. And no, the exact premise isn’t known yet, but we mostly have faith in McFarlane’s ability to make this vastly unappealing premise somehow interesting. Plus, a lot of the creators of Ted – notably, producers Scott Stuber and Jason Clark and co-writers Wellesley Wild and Alec Sulkin – have been drafted in to work on this, so, barring some inevitable for this team crude jokes and cheap laughs, A Million Ways To Die In The West sounds like a pretty promising production. The film is due to be released on May 30, 2014 across American theatres. And for those of you eagerly awaiting Ted 2, do not fret – that’s almost inevitable in the future too, as Universal has bought the rights to both films.

Strings to Seth Macfarlane’s bow: writer, director, voice over artists, bad Oscars presenter, and now, live-action comedy mogul. The Family Guy creator’s sitcom pilot Dads has been given a series order by Fox as the network ramp up their comedy scheduling.

Seth Green will star in the new sitcom alongside Ted co-star Giovanni Ribisi. The pair will be on-screen best friends whose lives take a twist when both of their father’s move in. Martin Mull and Academy Award and Emmy Award nominee Peter Riegert will play the fathers in question. Dads was a previously ordered, but in line with Fox’s new comedy shows, it’s gone from a 6 episode order and been upped to 13. Its pilot is to be directed by The Big Bang Theory's Marc Cendrowski. Pretty impressive staff list there, we reckon this one could stick. Elsewhere, Fox have plumped for more comedies: Brooklyn Nine Nine, Enlisted, Us & Them and Surviving Jack (working title) will all be hitting screens soon.

The creator, executive producer and voice of American Dad and The Cleveland Show will do his first guest-voice gig on Fox's The Simpsons during its season finale May 19. He, according to Fox, will play "a charming married man whom Marge (Julie Kavner) inadvertently meets on a swingers' website." Macfarlane’s stock is still pretty high despite his terrible performance at The Oscars. If Dads works, he might be able to claw himself back, but it if doesn’t then there could be trouble for the smiley funny-man.

Despite all of the post-event criticism that was levelled at Seth, the Oscars crew have asked him to return in 2014 to take on the job once again, JustJared.com reports.

We guess they must have ignored all of the subjective criticisms and accusations of sexism that Seth received and looked instead at the cold hard facts of the viewer figures. 40.3 million viewers reportedly tuned in to watch the ceremony this year; the figures were a significant increase on the previous years. It’s already been confirmed that the producers of this year’s show, Neil Meron and Craig Zadan will be returning so it seems obvious that they would ask Seth back too; after all, the producers stood by his performance, even when the media were all snapping at his heels and slamming the content of his hosting speeches. “After defending his performance, the producers reached out to Seth and invited him back to host the show again. He’s not sure if he’s going to do it, but he has to decide within the next couple of weeks.”

Macfarlane’s previously said that he wouldn’t accept the gig if he was offered again, but that was in the midst of all the furore over his puerile “we saw your boobs” song. Perhaps with the perspective of hindsight (and now the cheque’s cleared), he might feel differently about it.

While the Seth Macfarlane created Family Guy continues to pull in high ratings despite its controversial material, its spinoff The Cleveland Show hasn’t been so fortunate. As a part of Fox’s animated block, The Cleveland Show has been pulling in some of the lowest ratings, 3.3 million viewers and a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49 — and that includes seven days of DVR playback. Fox officials haven’t announced anything for sure just yet, but it’s not looking good for the spinoff.

Considering that the animated programs take the longest to produce, they are also usually confirmed for renewal early on. The Cleveland Show was supposed to be cleared for a new season months ago. That’s what happened with another one of Fox’s animations – the relatively new Bob’s Burgers, which was confirmed for its fourth season back in October.

A blog run by the leaders of The Animation Guild has outright declared the series dead in the water. However, while the chances of a renewal are looking grim right now, Fox animated series tend to be die-hard cult favorites. Sometimes the networks suspends a show and brings it back, like it did with King of the Hill and Family Guy, so you might want to keep your eyes on this story.

Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane’s brand of comedy thrives on shock value, but even he has to draw the line somewhere.

Just a day after the explosions at the Boston marathon, clips from a previously aired Family Guy episode were edited to seemingly depict the bombing and started circulating online. Fox pulled the upcoming episode of the show. McFarlane slammed the clips as abhorrent. Naturally, when the video surfaced, there were the conspiracy theorists, who started pointing to a planned attack by the US government. Others were offended and outraged by what seemed like an extremely inappropriate joke at the expense of the victims. Series creator and voice actor McFarlane tweeted this message about the clips: "The edited Family Guy clip currently circulating is abhorrent," he tweeted. "The event was a crime and a tragedy, and my thoughts are with the victims."

According to the network, the clips came from two separate parts of an episode, which aired earlier this year, entitled “Turban Cowboy”. Fox and many other US networks have been known to pull sensitive and potentially offensive material off air after national tragedies like the Boston bombing or the Newtown shooting of December 2012.

The broadcasting network Fox pulls Family Guy episode, after an edited clip montage appears to show a bombing at the Boston Marathon. In the cancelled episode, according to Los Angeles Times, the NBC sports reporter Bob Costas speaks to the father character, Peter Griffin about his marathon performance. In a flashback, Griffin recalls running athletes over in his car. There is also an “unrelated scene” in which Griffin befriends a terrorist planning on blowing up a bridge.

According to the report, elements of the clips had been edited together (not by the Family Guy production team), out-of-sequence to make it look as though the episode was about a bombing at the Boston marathon. The newly edited footage had then been edited and uploaded to the internet; an act that the series creator Seth Macfarlane has deplored. On his Twitter page, he wrote “The edited 'Family Guy' clip currently circulating is abhorrent. The event was a crime and a tragedy, and my thoughts are with the victims."

The episode, which was titled ‘Turban Cowboy,’ was originally aired last month and was pulled from fox.com and from Hulu.com, the online video site owned by Fox’s parent company News Corp. A spokeswoman for the network said they have no plans to air the episode again.

Seth Macfarlane has split from his girlfriend Emilia Clarke, E!Online reports. Whether or not Emilia was as grossed out Seth’s sexist Oscars hosting japery as the rest of the female race has yet to be confirmed but apparently it was a change in location for the two celebrities that forced the split. Seth, 39 and Emilia, 25 have parted ways and the news was confirmed by a source close to the Family Guy creator and Game of Thrones actress.

“They are no longer dating," a source told E! News. "It was really a location challenge. She has been in Europe shooting Game of Thrones and he is based in California, so it was hard to make it work despite the distance. They have remained friends." The couple’s relationship first became known to the public when they were spotted cosying up together at HBO’s Emmy’s afterparty back in September and now it seems that this will be one of those short-lived, un-dramatic relationships that won’t be remembered for very long at all.

Emilia will shortly be appearing in a Broadway production of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Seth, presumably, go back to working on Family Guy, after his Oscars-hosting role was poorly received. The biggest offender in his routine was probably the song and dance number that detailed the Hollywood actresses that had dared to bare their flesh, throughout their career. Far from tasteful.

Seth Macfarlane is currently working on a new project, the comedy A Million Ways To Die In The West, and has moved another step closer towards getting filming started by adding yet another star to it's already impressive cast. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sarah Silverman is in talks to be added to the project that also features Liam Neeson, Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried and Giovanni Ribis, as well as MacFarlane in the staring role.

Seth MacFarlane is keen to follow-up the success of Ted.

There was always a sneaking suspicion that Seth Macfarlane as Oscars host wouldn't go down well. His cheeky (smarmy) grin and risky (lewd) jokes aren't exactly in-sync with the Academy’s ethos. It was the ‘We Saw Your Boobs’ song that really brought it home.

But with seven nominations at this years MTV Movie Awards – matched only by Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained – MacFarlane seems to have found his true audience. Ted, like Django is up for Movie of the Year and Best Fight amongst others, and is expected to pick up a few awards come April 14th. Ted star Mila Kunis – who recently made everyone love her by just talking to someone about normal things - is up for Best Female Performance alongside Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook actress Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway in Les Miserables, Emma Watson in The Perks of Being A Wallflower and Australian comedian Rebel Wilson, who will host the show. Watson said of being nominated: "I am so excited to have been nominated for three MTV Movie Awards for Perks of Being a Wallflower! I love the show and I love this movie! I'm so thrilled."

Women, Jews, Mel Gibson, George Clooney and Prometheus were among those feeling the full force of the comedian's quips. He says he'll never host again.

A Silver Lining: It sort of seemed as though the world was against Jennifer Lawrence winning Best Actress at the Oscars. Many plumped for the underdog Emmauelle Riva, while others favoured Jessica Chastain - nevertheless, the Silver Linings Playbook was head over heels with her win - literally.

Seth Macfarlane was always a risky choice as Oscars host; his brash, unflinching style of humor was designed to suck in a younger audience, expanding on that coveted demographic, but what actually happened is he annoyed everyone.

He annoyed some people just because he’s pretty annoying, but, and more importantly, he managed to offend a rather large amount of ‘groups’. MacFarlane's jokes “reduced our finest female actresses to caricatures and stereotypes, degrading women as a whole and the filmmaking industry itself,” wrote Assemblywoman Bonnie Lowenthal and Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson in a letter to Hawk Koch, president of the academy.“It is unacceptable for the entity that celebrates film-making and pop culture to have Seth MacFarlane deliver a misogynistic and degrading monologue against actresses who have shown courage in addressing thought-provoking and realistic life experiences on film," Lowenthal and Jackson wrote in their letter. They then asked the academy to condemn MacFarlane’s behavior and “commit to using better judgment in their future choices of content and hosts.” But in a fleeting moment of defence for MacFarlane: the producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron deserve some castigating, too.

Seth Macfarlance hosted The Oscars, and he hosted them badly; at least that’s the general consensus amongst the critics, so it comes as no surprise that The Family Guy creator won’t be donning that black tux again. Unless he’s nominated, but that’s equally unlikely.

Asked on Twitter whether he’s ever going host again, Macfarlane replied "No way. Lotta fun to have done it, though." We can only assume that the host, who dishes out a lot of pretty offensive jokes, hasn’t taken kindly to being reviewed negatively for his efforts on Sunday night. It turns out his disclaimer piece, which features William Shatner telling him how bad a host he’s been from time-travelled reviews, didn’t work either. His attempt at self-awareness wasn’t fooling anyone. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who produced the 3 ½ hour ceremony, have to take some of the heat, too. Critics were also scathing of the song-and-dance-heavy show. Perhaps if they had been good songs and daces, though…

Quvenzhane Wallis, the 9-year-old actress nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars on Sunday, has received a personal apology from Steve Hannah, the chief executive of satirical newspaper The Onion, after it tweeted an offensive post about the young star. Wallis was dubbed a "c*nt" in the offensive tweet, that caused a storm during the Academy Awards broadcast.

"On behalf of The Onion, I offer my personal apology to Quvenzhané Wallis and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the tweet that was circulated last night during the Oscars," Steve Hannah wrote on the publication's Facebook page. "It was crude and offensive-not to mention inconsistent with The Onion's commitment to parody and satire, however biting." The offending tweet - "Everyone else seems afraid to say it, but that Quvenzhané Wallis is kind of a c***, right?" - was deleted about an hour after it was posted, though plenty of users, including some celebrities, were up in arms. Wendell Pierce of HBO's The Wire demanded that the publication identify the author of the tweet. "Let him defend that abhorrent verbal attack of a child. You call it humor, I call it horrendous," he tweeted. Pierce later added, "It doesn't matter what the intent was, it was offensive and they should apologize to Quvenzhane."

The Onion's apology continued, "We have instituted new and tighter Twitter procedures to ensure that this kind of mistake does not occur again. In addition, we are taking immediate steps to discipline those individuals responsible. Miss Wallis, you are young and talented and deserve better. All of us at The Onion are deeply sorry." The tweet was posted during a night when Seth Macfarlane joked "it'll be 16 years" before Wallis would be too old for George Clooney.

Hosting The Oscars is a notoriously difficult task to undertake and it has become, in many ways, increasingly difficult to be funny without seriously irritating a person, or a group of people. For Seth Macfarlane there were very mixed reviews. While the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) have complained about his work, ESPN whole heartedly approved. Can't win, eh?

As the Hollywood Reporter writes, ADL's leader Abraham Foxman, released a post-Oscars statement argues that one of MacFarlane's Ted skits perpetuated anti-Semitic stereotypes. MacFarlane voiced Ted the bear who claimed Hollywood is run by Jews. Foxman said: "[W]hat [MacFarlane] did at the Oscars was offensive and not remotely funny. It only reinforces stereotypes which legitimize anti-Semitism. It is sad and disheartening that the Oscars awards show sought to use anti-Jewish stereotypes for laughs." 

Also, Hispanic audiences took offence to a comment made by the host when he said "Well we have finally reached the point in the ceremony where either Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz or Salma Hayek comes on stage and we have no idea what they're saying but we don't care because they're so attractive." As the Huffington Post reports, viewers took to Twitter to air their complaints about his comment, offended by the insinuation that hispanic people can't be understood.

One polarizing addition to this year's Oscars ceremony was the use of the classic 'Jaws' theme when acceptance speeches ran a little too long. It made for a cringe-worthy couple of occasions, when frantic producers, actors, directors and writers tried to thank their family, cast, crew and even God himself as the movie theme tune began to ring around the Dolby Theater.

The general Twitter consensus appears to be that the Jaws song was a novelty the first time around, though became irritating and disrespectful. Saying that, Piers Morgan loved it, tweeting, "The Jaws music cut-off for long-winded acceptance speeches is the greatest addition to awards ceremonies ever. I'd add real sharks," before adding, "Jaws theme is making me laugh louder and louder each time - hysterical idea." Another user said, "The Only reason I'm still watching the Oscars is to see when they dunk & unleash Jaws on the next actor that speaks 2 long," though one Oscar-viewer suggested, "The guy that got played off to Jaws didn't even go that long did he? Seemed like a short leash."

The Jaws theme-tune was just one of many additions to this year's Academy Awards, presumably used to jazz the whole thing up and make it a less formal occasion. Host Seth Macfarlane was often irreverent and poked fun at many of the Hollywood's biggest stars.

Seth Macfarlane's Chris Brown and Rihanna joke drew audible gaps at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles at the Oscars on Sunday night (February 24, 2013). The Family Guy man took aim at some high profile celebrities in his opening skit, though it was his Brown and Rhi-Rhi jibe that was closest to the bone.

"Django is a movie where a woman is subjected to violence, or as we call it, a Chris Brown & Rihanna date movie," said MacFarlane, who also poked fun at Mel Gibson, Tommy Lee Jones, Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field. The joke was also a talking point on Twitter, with one user writing, "I don't know, I'm less offended by Seth MacFarlane's Chris Brown/Rihanna joke than I am about every single thing about Chris Brown." Another said, "Unfortunately for Chris Brown and Rihanna, their relationship will always be a punchline," however, one Oscar-viewer said, "Oh yeah, I agree with that Waltz win as much as I enjoyed the off-colour Django-Unchained-Chris-Brown-Rihanna gag."

MacFarlane was a surprise choice to host this year's Academy Awards, though he enjoyed a huge year with his part-animated comedy Ted, starring Mark Walhberg. His TV show Family Guy continues to be one of the most watched on U.S. television, while his performing background did him no harm in landing the biggest gig of the year.

Seth Macfarlane opened this year's Academy Awards with a pretty bizarre skit that featured James T. Kirk himself William Shatner telling the Family Guy man that he was the worst host in Oscars history (He'd come back in time, you see). "This is Captain James T Kirk. Will you respond? I'm here to stop you from doing what you're about to do. The show's a disaster. I've come back in time from the twenty-third century to stop you from ruining the Academy Awards. Your jokes are tasteless and inappropriate and everyone ends up hating you," said the Canadian screen legend.

Shatner told Macfarlane he had sung an offensive song that displeased many of Hollywood's female stars, before playing 'the tape' from the Oscars telecast. "We haven't seen Jennifer Lawrence's boobs..Helen Hunt we saw them in The Sessions and Scarlett Johansson we saw them on our phones," sang the writer and comedian. "The point is, keep it classy," advised Shatner, before MacFarlane introduced Daniel Radcliffe and Joseph Gordon-Levitt on-stage for a music and dance number. "Are you sure you want to be the first Oscars host ever to get a bad review?" said Shatner, "You're disrespectful to many of the evening's nominees."

'Ted' star Macfarlane was a surprise choice to host this year's ceremony and has plenty to live up to, given Amy Poehler and Tina Fey's performance at the recent Golden Globes.

Hosting The Oscars is one of the biggest hosting jobs a person can do in their lifetime, unless you hosted the royal wedding, or... well, that's pretty much the only thing bigger than the Oscars. With the world's biggest stars all under one roof and the opinions of the Oscar judges held in such high esteem, Seth Macfarlane has let himself in for something major, and he knows it. 

In an interview with USA Today he revealed that he's been doing plenty to prepare himself for the big day (this Sunday, February 24th). He got "good advice from Billy Crystal" who "took about an hour out of his day, [to talk] through some of the dos and the donts" of hosting the Oscars. Apparently, Crystal told MacFarlane to "get comfortable with [his] shoes before [he] gets out there." 

"They say look and find a friendly face in the audience. I'm probably going to find Denzel Washington or maybe Joaquin Phoenix," he added. As well as discussing his preparations, he also said that there'll be a musical element to the show on Sunday! Although he couldn't elaborate further on how, when or with whom that might occur, but it has to happen. "It's the Oscars, there's an orchestra, it would be a shame to not use it." 

12 different directors contributed to the misshapen mess that was Movie 43, but it’s Peter Farrelly whose decided to speak out against the slew of bad reviews that the comedy has received from critics.

The film should have been a big box office success, boasting in its cast as it did the likes of Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Halle Berry, Uma Thurman, Seth Macfarlane and a whole host others in its series of mini-vignettes. However, a critical mauling has left it with an average rating of 4% on reviews aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes, whilst some critics have been moved enough to call it the worst film of all time. As one of the 12 directing, Farrelly – who can boast comedy successes like There’s Something About Mary and Stuck On You in his resume – took the haters to task on Twitter.

"To the critics: Movie 43 is not the end of the world. It's just a $6-million movie where we tried to do something different. Now back off," he fumed, adding "To the critics: You always complain that Hollywood never gives you new stuff, and then when you get it, you flip out," he added in a separate 140-character missive. "Lighten up." Among the many derogatory comments about the film, the most amusing was perhaps Richard Roeper’s of the Chicago Sun Times, the unimpressed critic describing the movie as “the Citizen Kane of awful”.

The Seth Macfarlane success story just keeps on going, to the point where it’s becoming increasingly hard to blame him for wearing such a sickly smug expression on his face all the time. From the huge success of Family Guy, MacFarlane casually made the jump to the big screen with the big grossing Ted; he’s also recorded his own swing album, will be hosting the Oscars this year and even has a chance of an award in that too. Life is good for Seth.

So we shouldn’t be surprised that there’s more good news on the way; Fox have offered MacFarlane – as well as the rest of the Ted team, Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild – a six episode straight-to-series order for their live-action comedy Dads. That’s a big gamble on Fox’s part, but when you seem to be so easily hitting home runs, as Macfarlane is, then you can see why they’ve made it.

MacFarlane’s show was among a host to receive commission, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Fox has handed out pilot orders to Andrew Gurland’s House Rules, Bill Lawrence’s I Suck At Girls, Jane Tranter’s Friends & Family and an assistant comedy from two former Friends producers. Three dramas have also been commissioned, the highlight being Sleepy Hollow by Fringe pair Alex Kurtzmann and Bob Orci. The focus is on MacFarlane though. Dads is a multi-camera effort that focuses on two successful guys in their 30's whose lives change when their terrible dads move in with them.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were widely hailed as successful hosts of last night’s Golden Globes, keeping it clean but funny. So much so that it caused the Guardian to remark that it was something of a ground-breaking moment in awards history. “Something rather important happened last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Something groundbreaking. Something record-setting,” they wrote. “Tina Fey and Amy Poehler proved that hosts of an awards ceremony can actually be funny.” Now, of course, all eyes are turning to Seth Macfarlane, who – somehow – has to try and do the same at the Oscars. No pressure, there Seth… no pressure.

MacFarlane was clearly taking notes last night, ahead of his Oscars moment and he was quick with the praise for the duo. “Please give Tina and Amy high marks because they did great,” he told the press and explained that he’s well aware of the pressure that he’s under, as the Oscars host and said “Oscars hosts always get thrashed.” Of course, Tina and Amy had the benefit, you could argue, of having each other to bounce off and work with. Seth won’t have the luxury of a comedy partner but what he will have is the eyes of the world upon him. The Golden Globes are a mere precursor to the international weight of the Oscars.

Poehler and Fey were careful not to cause the kind of barrel-scraping outrage that Ricky had done before them and it seems that the raciest thy got with their jokes was probably in relation to Kathryn Bigelow, when Fey said “I haven't been following the controversy about 'Zero Dark Thirty,' but when it comes to torture, I'll trust the lady who was married to James Cameron for three years.” They ended the evening by announcing that they were going home with Jodie Foster who had just been on the stage confirming that, as the world kind of knew anyway, she was definitely gay. If we were Seth MacFarlane, we’d be worried; seems like Amy and Tina got to all the good jokes first, huh?

Seth Macfarlane gave viewers an early taste of what next month’s Oscars are going to be like with him at the hosting helm when announcing the nominations for the February event yesterday (February 10, 2013); however, it sounds like people are already having to defend him after a couple of risky jokes during the presentation yesterday.

Macfarlane was alongside Emma Stone in Los Angeles yesterday to read out the nominees, and the Family Guy and Ted creator dropped a couple of dodgy jokes, including: "These are adapted screenplays, keep in mind, so that means the writers just copied stuff from Microsoft Word and pasted it into Final Draft," and "I read 'Amour' was co-produced in Austria and Germany. The last time Austria and Germany got together and co-produced something it was Hitler, but this was much better."

His performance did not go down well: “David Letterman, you can probably stop making jokes about how much the movie industry disliked your host gig; a new winner in that category may reveal itself on Oscar night” wrote Entertainment Weekly. Slate meanwhile commented “In the less than 10 minutes it took to announce the nominees, MacFarlane managed to insult his co-presenter, belittle the achievements of several nominees, and make a Hitler joke....” Vulture blog meanwhile commented how conflicted he looked, commenting “You could see MacFarlane struggling to figure out how to seem like the guy whose show had a baby putting horse semen on his cereal, but not actually offend the more conservative Oscar audience.”

Adele is certainly a devoted mother, that's for sure. The Oscar-nominated singer jetted into Los Angeles on Thursday evening head of her performance at the Golden Globe awards on Sunday, though instead of leaving her 3-month-old baby at home with the nanny, the Londoner carried him straight through the arrivals gate, past the throng of waiting photographers, and into her waiting car.

The protective mother - wearing dark Rayban sunglasses - clutched her son close to a chest, covering him with a warm blanket. She's still yet to make the baby's name public, despite giving birth some 51 days ago. However, there's a problem. Adele has reportedly not made an appointment to register her son and could face a £1,000 fine - in other words, he's officially nameless. A source told the Sun newspaper, "Cops are hardly going to be banging on their door tomorrow and it's probably just an oversight on their part. Most parents register their baby within a couple of weeks because it's a nice thing to do - and because there's a maximum fine of £1,000 if they don't...There's loads of reasons why parents are late and millions of couples don't bother for ages." For her long-haul flight from London to Los Angeles, the Bond singer opted for comfort over style and wore black leggings, a black top and warm looking cardigan. Adele’s going to be getting a few sly looks from Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes next time they’re in the same room together, we reckon. Skyfall hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons today, when it was widely snubbed by the Academy in this year’s Oscars nominations. Adele – as she is wont to do – however, came up trumps and walked away with a nomination in the Best Song category.

The British singer seemed over the moon at the news and tweeted “Oh my god I feel like Meryl Streep!” Easy love, you haven’t actually won yet… Her Skyfall theme tune (which adopted the same name as the movie), reached number one when it was released and is the favourite to take the title. Its competition comes from ‘Before My Time’ from Chasing Ice, ‘Lullaby From Life Of Pi’ from (you guessed it) Life of Pi and ‘Everybody Needs A Best Friend’ from Ted.

The awards were announced by Emma Stone and Seth Macfarlane. It was 5am in Hollywood, so they did well to keep everyone entertained with their banter. One of the big headlines to come out of the nominations today was the nomination of nine year old Quvenzhané Wallis. Wallis became the youngest woman ever to be nominated for the Best Actress Oscar, for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild.

Hosted by the Academy, the Governors Awards gave plenty of Hollywood stars the chance to schmooze up to the organisers of the prestigious Oscar awards, in the hope that a strong social showing might lead to an eventual nomination when the big awards themselves come around in the new year. Does it ever work? Who can tell, but there were certainly a lot of the great and good out at the event on Saturday evening (December 1).

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly Seth Macfarlane, the creator of Family Guy, has released very early plans for a feature length version of the immensely popular show. Although, it seems there are no set plans to start creating it yet, and consequently, we have no idea when it'll hit the big screen. "It's just a matter of when," MacFarlane said. "It's hard to do that while you have the series going on at the same time; I think that's why it took The Simpsons 20 seasons to figure out how to do it." 

Despite not knowing when it'll happen, they know what will happen when they make it. "We do know what the Family Guy movie will be." He said, "The Simpsons movie, I thought, was hilarious, but the one criticism I would have is that it's a story they probably could've done on TV. There could've been an episode that had that plotline," he said. "That's the challenge with animation. You pretty much can do any story you want, so what is the reason for the movie? We finally hit on the answer to that question, and it will be something that would be impossible to do on TV." 

Having offered that tantalizing nugget of information he's absolutely unwilling to expand on that further. Seth has already dipped toes in the movie making business with his hit film Ted over the summer. He will also be hosting the Oscars next February. Plus, being the perpetual bringer of good news that he is, having given a guest lecture at UCLA he unveiled plans of the Oscar Experience College Search: "Basically, they're looking for students who are interested in pursuing careers in the film industry," MacFarlane said. "You enter this search, you win a trip to L.A... And you get to go up onstage and help me hand out some Oscars."  

Seth Macfarlane's name is being bandied about the media right now, as he has been announced as next year's Oscars host. However, the American Dad and Family Guy creator has had a pressure group snapping at his heels for years and now, the Parents Television Council is filing a complaint about the forthcoming episode of American Dad. The episode, scheduled to air on the Fox network on Sunday, contains alleged references to oral sex and ejaculation and the PTC are none too happy about it.

"Is the man that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has selected to host next year's Oscars telecast, following in the footsteps of such Hollywood legends as Bob Hope and Johnny Carson?" asked the PTC president Tim Winter. "In the past, American Dad and MacFarlane's other programs have included scenes mocking people with Down syndrome, implying father-daughter incest, a man masturbating a horse, a baby eating horse sperm, and a character eating vomit and excrement out of a baby's diaper." The problematic scene this time round is an SUV that runs on carbon, oxygen and potassium, branded the Hummie COK Guzzler.

Macfarlane has previously said that receiving a letter from the Christian PTC is like "receiving hate mail from Hitler" so we doubt he's too concerned about their renewed efforts to snub him. "They're literally terrible human beings," MacFarlane said back in 2008. "I've read their newsletter, I've visited their website, and they're just rotten to the core. For an organization that prides itself on Christian values - I mean, I'm an atheist, so what do I know? - they spend their entire day hating people."

Seth Macfarlane will host the Oscars in 2013, that much we know. But how will it go down? And can the Family Guy creator pull in the all-important viewers? Let’s have a look.

p>The brief is clear; the goal is set: build upon last year’s 14.9m viewers, and get somewhere closer to the gargantuan viewing figures of the Superbowl, which, in its last incarnation garnered an incredible 113m. Method? Get one of the most successful people of the year to present the show; a man who has all but conquered the widely coveted 18-49 market with his lively brand of comedy, which cumulated in Ted: the box office smash, via hit animations like Family Guy, American Dad and The Cleveland show. Macfarlane, bizarrely, represents a fairly safe bet for the Oscars. His comic style will undoubtedly ruffle a few feathers, but given Ricky Gervias’ award show stylings, that kind of thing has become the norm. More importantly for the Oscars people, though, is Macfarlane’s ability to draw in the numbers, which is what the whole business is about.

Macfarlane ends a superb year, with the aforementioned Ted making $420 million at the worldwide box office, making it one of the year’s most successful films. And his Family Guy franchise continues to enjoy fantastic success. It’s probably the second most popular animation behind The Simpsons. With his geeky connection to fans, and his love for all things TV, booted by the fact he’s a tremendously successful comedy writer, he represents a good choice for the Academy Awards, which kick off in winter, 2013.

Seth Macfarlane has quite possibly capped what's already been an incredible year for the Family Guy creator, with the news that he is going to be hosting the 2013 Academy Awards, according to Reuters. Always known for his tremendously successful animated series and its spin-off The Cleveland Show and American Dad, Macfarlane managed to succeed in a big way on the silver screen too this year, with his film Ted proving a huge success at the US Box Office in particular.

In a statement, Macfarlane said: "It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars. My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast."

To date Macfarlane's directorial debut with Ted has brought in some $434 million worldwide at the box office. In addition he also performed a selection of swing covers at the Albert Hall in London as part of the BBC Proms, taken from his album released in the US in 2011 called Music Is Better Than Words. It's certainly been some year for Macfarlane, and he follows a recent list of hosts that includes Steve Martin, Whoopi Goldberg and Anne Hathaway.

The man behind one of the USA's most controversial comedies Family Guy, as well as its spin off The Cleveland Show, and American Dad, Seth Macfarlane will be hosting the 85th Oscars on Sunday 24th February, 2013. MacFarlane's latest work was ‘Ted’, the comedy about a mischievous animated bear voiced by MacFarlane himself and starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis.

The Academy Awards producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said “We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars. His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh... He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him."

In response to this tremendous accolade, MacFarlane responded by saying "It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars” and in true comedic tradition, followed this saying, "My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast."

Joseph Gordon-Levitt followed on from Seth Macfarlane's well-received appearance on the first episode of the new Saturday Night Live series with an equally impressive show of comic talent and timing.

The Dark Knight Rises star tickled funny bones across America with his two spoof beer commercial skits, in which he played the son of the 'Most Interesting Man in the World.' The two skits, spoofs of the popular Dos Equis adverts, featured Gordon-Levitt as the underachieving son promoting 'Tres Equis' and detailing his life as a man who is the polar opposite of his famous fictional father. Some of his 'achievements' included using fake names at Starbucks and dating a model (who in actual fact isn't a model but stared in commercial for her dad's car dealership) as well as being the proud owner five differently styled fedora hats. The character explained that Tres Equis is "one Equis more than my dad's beer, because he was never there for me. [It's] two parts Dos Equis, one part none of your business."

For the second skit, the deadbeat son is joined by his father (played by Jason Sudeikis) who berates his son for his disappointing exploits.

Clint Eastwood is set to star in a new movie Trouble with the Curve that has the actor talking to further inanimate objects following his infamous Obama-chair speech.

The multi-Oscar winning actor and director will play an ageing baseball talent scout who is out of touch with technology and modern society and is suffering from deteriorating eyesight which he desperately tries to hide, despite the frequent dents that keep mysteriously appearing all over his car. The actor is an outspoken conservative who recently incited a lot of sniggering from left wing supporters by interrogating an empty chair (who he pretended had Barack Obama sat in it) about its policies at the Republican National Convention in support of Mitt Romney. Although it was intended as a slur on the President of the United States, it was quick to be made fun of; most notably on the opening episode of the new season of Saturday Night Live. The show, guest hosted by Family Guy creator Seth Macfarlane, saw Bill Hadar impersonate Eastwood in a spoof republican speech.

Clint’s not letting it get to him though, and insists he “liked” the impression. He told E! News at the Trouble with the Curve premiere: “It was good. Hader has me down pretty good.” It wasn’t the first time he was reminded of the incident, however, as one member of the press noticed 16 empty seats nearby at the L.A. showing which Eastwood seemed to find hilarious. The movie has more tongue-in-cheek moments than originally intended now, as the actor is seen talking to his penis at the beginning of the movie, some Spam, a gravestone and his car later. Perhaps, he finds stationary objects easier to have a conversation with than the left wing supporters of America’s President.

You know you’ve made it as a star when you’ve got Seth Macfarlane doing an impression of you on long-running US comedy TV sketch show Saturday Night Live, and that’s exactly what happened to the new golden boy of American swimming as Ryan Lochte saw himself roundly roasted by the Family Guy and Ted creator. Macfarlane roundly mocked Lochte by acting as though any activities out of water were too complex for the swimmer, including naming television shows or pronouncing simple words and phrases.

According to Celebuzz however, Lochte has taken the skit well, telling the site “Well I gotta admit that was a pretty harsh one, but it’s cool to have Seth parody me. I think he pegged me wrong, but when I heard he did a skit I knew I was in for it!” The athlete added “It’s all in fun and of course if I’m talked about on SNL I know they are gonna get me ‘Go-od.’”

In other related news, TMZ is reporting that Macfarlane’s Ted might be due a sequel after the runaway success of the first film at the box office this summer. It took over $400 million worldwide, and when the entertainment site caught up with Macfarlane, he admitted “we’re thinking about it” with regards following it up.

Olympic gold medallist Ryan Lochte has reacted to Seth Macfarlane's parody of him on Saturday Night Live over the weekend. The Family Guy funny-man ripped into Lochte in one of his skits, poking fun at the swimmer's mispronouncing of words after opening with, "Hey, Seth, I'm Ryan Lochte.I was America in the Olympics."

Though the jokes seemed to go down pretty well with SNL's live studio audience, Lochte didn't seem too pleased with it all, telling Celebuzz, "That was a pretty harsh one," before adding, "I think he pegged me wrong, but when I heard he did a skit I knew I was in for it!.. It's all in fun and of course if I'm talked about on SNL I know they are gonna get me 'Go-od", a reference to the way in which MacFarlane pronounced Matthew Perry's new show 'Go On' as 'goon'. Lochte again went on the defensive while speaking with Extra TV, saying, "I think they (SNL) got me all wrong there. The whole skit, that was from when I first started doing interviews like six or seven years ago. I didn't know what to really say doing interviews, but now I'm really more relaxed."

Considering the amount of celebrities that have taken a mauling on MacFarlane's 'Family Guy', we think Ryan Lochte got off pretty lightly. How about you?

Frank Ocean’s appearance on Saturday Night Live and the release of his new video for Pyramids made for a busy weekend, reports MTV News.

The critically acclaimed singer songwriter took the stage on Saturday Night Live for the premiere of its 38th season. Introduced by Family Guy creator, Seth McFarlane, the Odd Future member trilled out his high-pitch hit ‘Thinkin Bout You’ under a lone spotlight on a retro stage, with vintage arcade machines scattered in the background. The lights shifted to reveal co-star on the show, John Mayer on guitar, who managed to get a solo performance in when Ocean returned to the stage to perform his song Pyramids. It was a bite size version of the track, as the album version runs for nearly 10 minutes, but it was still an impressive performance. The background arcade machines were utilised when Frank left to twiddle his thumbs on the joysticks, whilst Mayer did some of his own thumb twiddling on the guitar. A video for Pyramids was also in the offing for Ocean’s busy weekend, and MTV described it as a “dark, druggy thing that doesn't provide any answers; instead, it only poses more questions about the mercurial star.”

Overall it was a successful return for SNL, which will welcome Joseph Gordon-Levitt to present the next episode on September 22nd, with Mumford And Sons, Daniel Craig and Muse next in line on October 6th.
