Seth Macfarlane is undoubtedly set to be an unorthodox Oscars host, and there’s all sorts of chat about what everyone could be letting themselves in for. One thing that is definitely happening is that the Family Guy and Ted creator will be closing the show with a song and dance, alongside Kristin Chenoweth.

Seth Macfarlane's up for a song and a dance this Sunday

The news was broken by Oscars production team Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who said in a statement reported by the Detroit Free Press. "After the Best Picture award has been given, Seth and Kristin will perform a special number and we think it will be a 'can't miss' moment," the producers are quoted as saying. The decision to get Macfarlane to host is all part of the Oscars move to get the 18-49 demographic interested in the awards ago, with criticisms in the past that it was attracting an older-only crowd.

Reuters reported that Zadan and Meron were excited to have Macfarlane on board, and were convinced he was just what the evening needed. “We love the expectation of the newness of Seth and we love the fact that people don't quite know what they're going to get with him as a host” Meron said. “We think it adds to the speculation and the interest in the show.” There is a chance the comedy could be pretty risqué, but Zadan said "We're not nervous because everything he writes, he runs by us.”  Though he did point out "You don't hire Seth MacFarlane and not have tons of comedy.” In case you need reminding, the Oscars takes place this Sunday, February 24th.
