Filmmakers Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer, the brains behind Oscar-nominated 2013 documentary The Square, are planning to explore other theories about who was responsible for the massive security breach, which hit headlines in November (14), when confidential documents, including private emails, film footage, and personal details of a number of stars, were leaked online in an effort to have The Interview pulled from its Christmas Day (25Dec14) release.

Noujaim and Amer had reportedly been working on a film about cybercrimes when the controversy began to unfold, reports TheWrap.com.

Hackers calling themselves the Guardians of Peace claimed responsibility for the Sony leaks and threatened to continue uploading sensitive documents unless film bosses agreed to their demands.

Sony briefly succumbed to the threats, but later launched The Interview, about two American journalists hired by the CIA to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, on limited release and via streaming services.

A release date for the currently untitled documentary has yet to be set.
