Guess Who? Shailene Woodley And Five Other Celebrities In Disguise

Shailene Woodley Tom Cruise Mel Gibson

This week A Fault in Our Star actress Shailene Woodley disguised herself in a long curly wig so she could enjoy her new movie at a regular cinema incognito. It may seem like a very simple disguise but it worked and Shailene was able to enjoy the film without causing a scene. Of course sometimes for a celebrity a disguise is necessary, especially when you're looking to carry out normal, everyday activities. Here’s five other examples of stars who have tried (and mostly failed) at going incognito. Come on, would you have recognised them?

'The Fault In Our Stars' Is (Probably) The Best Movie Out This Week

Shailene Woodley

We say The Fault in Our Stars is probably the best movie out this week because if you're into your action sci-fi flicks, than you're going to want to see Edge of Tomorrow. That's a fun-filled movie that sees the return to form of Tom Cruise, but The Fault in Our Stars is a real movie. A real movie.

The Fault in Our StarsAnsel Elgort [L] and Shailene Woodley [R] in 'The Fault in Our Stars'

It stars Shailene Woodley (before she did  the whole Divergent thing) and Ansel Elgort as Hazel and Gus, two teenagers who share the same acerbic wit and a disdain for the conventional. The pair's relationship is all the more miraculous given that they met and fell in love at a cancer support group. Based upon the bestselling novel by John Green, the movie has been steadily garnering acclaim for the best part of a year now and it finally gets its full release this weekend.

'The Fault In Our Stars' Breaks Pre-Sales Records, Doesn't Do Too Badly In Reviews Either

Shailene Woodley Ansel Elgort

The official release date is almost upon us for the adaptation of John Green's best-selling teen tear-jerker novel, The Fault In Our Stars. Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort (both 'Divergent') come together one again to portray the two young lovers at the centre of this tragic romance who fall in love under the most unfortunate of circumstances.

There's an awful lot of excitement for the movie, which has already opened in several territories across the globe with UK and US release still to come. So much so, that 'TFIOS' has broken pre-sales records for a romantic drama, according to Fandango.

The movie has managed to beat Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams' The Vow as well as Safe Haven and Dear John in terms of cinema seat pre-bookings. The movie is expected to debut to more than $30 million this weekend with success virtually promised.

Naomi Watts Shailene Woodley Theo James Zoe Kravitz Miles Teller Kate Winslet Octavia Spencer

The cast of Divergent sequels Insurgent and Allegiant is already taking shape with Naomi Watts being the latest A-lister to join the lineup. The actress joins Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Zoe Kravitz and a number of other celebrities for the remaining movies of the young adult franchise. Watts willplay the mother of James’ character Four, appearing in three movies in total, since the final book, Allegiant will be split into two films a la every teen fantasy franchise of the past five years. Watts’ character, Evelyn, is the ruthless leader of the factionless in the books, aka those, who do not belong into any of Divergent’s five castes and have therefore been shunned from society.

Back in May, Summit also announced the casting of Octavia Spencer as Amity leader Johanna Reyes and the return of Kate Winslet as the main antagonist of the first two books, Jeanine Matthews. According to The Hollywood Reporter, production on Insurgent is already underway in Atlanta. The second film from the series has been given a tentative release date of March 20, 2015 – nine whole months ahead of the other big YA movie coming out in 2015 – The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I.

Early Reviews For Shailene Woodley's 'Fault In Our Stars' Are Positive

Shailene Woodley Ansel Elgort

‘Fault in Our Stars’ tells the incredibly emotive story of Hazel (Shailene Woodley), a young woman who has spent her entire teenage life under the shadow of cancer. Based on the number-one, bestselling novel by John Green, we see Hazel fall in love in a cancer support group with the ever-charming and resoundingly positive Gus (Ansel Elgort) who has been in remission for one year.

Shailene Woodley Shailene Woodley has recently denounced comparisons with Jennifer Lawrence

None of the so-called ‘big hitters’ have had their say, but the early reviews suggest this film won’t just make you laugh and cry, it’ll provoke a modicum of thought, too.

Shailene Woodley Chooses To Be Homeless, But Why?

Shailene Woodley

Even though Shailene Woodley is one of Hollywood's most promising actress', she still doesn't own a home.

But that is not the most surprising thing, the 22 year-old star is homeless by choice.

Woodley explained her reasons for giving up a perfectly good house during her appearance on ABC's 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' this past Thursday (May 15th).

No Home, No Phone, One Pair Of Jeans: The Simple Life Of Shailene Woodley

Shailene Woodley Jimmy Kimmel

Shailene Woodley is quite the anomaly in the world of showbiz: not because her image isn't crafted but because she at least claims not to buy into the 'more, more, more' mentality of materialism like many of her peers. The actress, who is best known for her role in the recent teen series adaptation, Divergent, appeared on Thursday's episode of ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live! during which she discussed her unusual, if not refreshing, approach to life.

Whatever Happened To Shailene Woodley's Scenes In "The Amazing Spider-Man 2?"

Shailene Woodley Andrew Garfield Emma Stone

Have you seen The Amazing Spider-Man 2? Noticed something missing from The Amazing Spider-Man 2? People on the internet have – Mary Jane Watson did not feature in a single scene, despite the fact that there was an actress, cast for the role. Shailene Woodley, the rising young actress with lead roles in Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars even shot her scenes as MJ, but by the time the film was released, they had ended up on the cutting room floor. Or, more likely, at the bottom of some tired film editor’s hard drive.

Shailene Woodley
Woodley did "a couple days of great work" on the film, but her scenes just didn't fit in with the story.

Besides a few pap shots of Woodley with long red hair, it seems like her turn as MJ is lost forever. But why? According to director Marc Webb and producer Matt Tolmach, speaking for The LA Times, it had nothing to do with her performance – in fact, Woodley did a great job. The decision to cut her scenes was just made to devote more screen time to the relationship between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.

Shailene Woodley On Being "50% Feminine, 50% Masculine"

Shailene Woodley David Letterman

Shailene Woodley, the star of the Divergent franchise, has been speaking about gender equality, telling Time magazine that she doesn't necessarily consider herself a feminist. Alongside with Jennifer Lawrence, Woodley is spearheading a new drive of lead female actresses.

When quizzed on why she doesn't regard herself as a feminist, Woodley - who rose to fame opposite George Clooney in The Descendants - said: "With myself, I'm very in touch with my masculine side. And I'm 50% feminine and 50% masculine, same as I think a lot of us are.And I think that is important to note. And also I think that if men went down and women rose to power, that wouldn't work either. We have to have a fine balance."

Lionsgate Fancy Three More Divergent Films: 'Allegiant' To Be Two Movies

Shailene Woodley

Lionsgate have ignored the fact that critics pretty much hated the first film in the trilogy adapted from Veronica Roth book, and have announced that the third film – Allegiant – will be split into two films a la Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows and Hunger Games: Mockingjay. The latter, of course, is also a Lionsgate property.

'Divergent' Final Sequel 'Allegiant' To Be Split Into Two Movies

Shailene Woodley Theo James

The third and final book in the Divergent series, Allegiant, is to be split into two films, Lionsgate/Summit have decided. Veronica Roth's YA dystopian fiction has already been given the Hollywood treatment with the box office smash hit Divergent but the author will see her stories turned into four movies altogether, following the example of similar fantasy franchises, Harry Potter and Twilight.

The Third 'Divergent' Movie Will Be Split Into Two.

Shailene Woodley stars as Tris Prior, the young heroine in Roth's novels, and will be expected to reprise her critically praised role in each of the films in the planned quadrilogy. The film as a whole didn't fare particularly well at the hands of critics however, so it will be interesting to see whether Neil Burger remains attached to the projects.

'Divergent' May Be Popular, But It Is The Next Big Franchise?

Since the Harry Potter and Twilight series ended in 2011 and 2012, respectively, studios are on the lookout for the next blockbuster movie franchise. And since it worked for those sagas, they have been turning to popular book series. This month's entry is Divergent, based on the first of Veronica Roth's three novels set in a dystopian future. It's done well at the US box office, but this week's expansion around the world will be the real sign of whether the franchise has legs.

Film adaptions of books are currently the hottest ticket in film making. Studios seemed to have realised that with popular books comes a ready made fan base, although this can be a double edged sword. Sure, you’re attracting big crowds, but they’re also going to be much more scrutinising when it comes to the plot lines and characters that they know and love. These upcoming book adaptions have got a lot of draw, let’s hope they live up to fan expectations.

Despite Awful Reviews, Veronica Roth Is Pleased With Divergent Adaptation

Shailene Woodley

The movie version of Veronica Roth’s book Divergant hit cinemas yesterday after a less than favourable reaction from the critics. But despite the reviews, Roth says she’s pleased with the movie adaptation of her popular novel, which – it has recently been announce – will get a sequel.

DivergentThe cast of Divergent discuss the bad reviews

“My anxieties were just the standard anxieties of any author who hands over their work to be adapted. But, I know from the second the book hits the shelf, it stops belonging to the person who wrote it. It starts belonging to everyone who reads it. So I was pretty well practiced in letting it go a little bit, which is a good thing,” Roth said.

Divergent Fails To Impress Critics - Good Acting, Bad Action [Video + Pictures]

Shailene Woodley Theo James

Divergent – the YA dystopian adaptation of the year, had expectations soaring before its release. Not only is it based on a much beloved book with a devoted fanbase, it also has a stellar cast and strong story going for it. Divergent is set in a future society, where, after some manmade disaster has wiped out large chunks of the population, people now separate themselves into factions, based on their dominant virtues. There’s Candor for the honest, Dauntless for the brave, Abnegation for the selfless, Amity for the peaceful (you’d think those two could unite their causes). 16-year-old Tris finds out she’s Divergent, meaning she belongs in more than one faction and makes a choice, which will change her life forever.

Shailene Woodley, Divergent Still
Shailene Woodley is great, but can't save the movie.

The premise certainly sounds exciting enough, and right on point with the zeitgeist. Add to that the names of this year’s It-girl Shailene Woodley and the as-of-yet relatively unknown, but very, very attractive Theo James (what else could we ask for in a teen movie love interest?) and it sounds like a recipe for success. Early reviews, however, have not been all that great. Divergent premiered on Tuesday (US wide release is set for Friday) and it’s already getting bad press. A 22% rating on Rotten Tomatoes is definitely a bad omen.

Is 'The Maze Runner' The Next Big Young-Adult Movie?

Kaya Scodelario Dylan O'Brien Shailene Woodley

Just as everyone was beginning to get really hyped up for Shailene Woodley's upcoming flick Divergent it looks like another movie may be just about to steal its thunder. You've got to act fast in this business (or you'll get hunted down, if these movies are anything to go by!).  Based on the series by James Dashner, The Maze Runner certainly looks like it will be worthy of joining the list of big box office movies based on young adult books.  Over the past few years movies aimed at a young adult audience, such as the Harry Potter series, Twilight franchise, The Hunger Games and currently Dviergent, have been vastly popular, drawing in huge audiences of young adults and adults alike.  They've definitely become a guilty pleasure, whether you're 15 or 50 years old.

The Maze Runner
Teen Wolf's Dylan O'Brien will star in The Maze Runner

Starring Teen Wolf’s Dylan O’Brien, The Maze Runner seems to be a solid contender to challenge The Hunger Games and Divergent in action and story, although unlike the other two movies, this one has a male lead. We think we’ll allow a boy to take control for once, there has been a lot of girl power in movies lately, we feel like we've had our fix!  Although no one could rival The Hunger Games' Katniss Everdeen in our eyes.

'Divergent' Actress Shailene Woodley Slams "Toxic" 'Twilight': Is She Right?

Shailene Woodley

Divergent star Shailene Woodley has slammed the Twilight franchise, particularly the “toxic” relationship between the lead characters. Woodley told Teen Vogue magazine, “‘Twilight,’ I’m sorry, is about a very unhealthy toxic relationship. She falls in love with this guy and the second he leaves her, her life is over and she’s going to kill herself! What message are we sending to young people? That is not going to help this world evolve.”  Wise words from such a young actress!

shailene woodley The Divergent actress has labeled Twilight "toxic" and "unhealthy"

We’ve got to admit, 22 year old Shailene has said what’s been playing on our minds for a long time now! The Bella-Edward relationship is all very romantic if you don’t mind a suffocatingly intense relationship with a man who thinks it’s OK to watch you without your knowledge while you sleep. Edward’s express instructions to stay away from werewolves, who happen to be Bella's good friends, also comes under the jurisdiction of controlling, while he also makes most of Bella’s decisions without her even questioning it. Under him she becomes like a weakened infant, entirely subservient and reliant.  Can anyone say 'co-dependent'?

Are 'Divergent' Co-Stars Shailene Woodley And Theo James An Item?

Shailene Woodley Theo James

Shailene Woodley has admitted that she may have had a relationship with a co-star...but only after filming had finished! The Divergent star spoke to Teen Vogue for their upcoming April issue, explaining “I haven’t had time to think about a relationship! I literally have not had a boyfriend in almost five years. I’ve never even hooked up with anybody I’ve worked on a movie with”. Although, when probed about whether a romance may have ensued once she had finished the movie she replied “Well, that might have happened on something”, leaving us all to speculate about what the 22 year old actress means!

shailene woodley theo james Rumours have been flying around about a potential romance between Shailene and Theo

We’re not the only ones who have been wondering about Shailene’s relationship with her Divergent co-star, 29 year old English actor Theo James. Even Shailene herself admits there is palpable chemistry between the two of them onscreen, “When we were filming, everyone said, “You and Theo have such crazy chemistry,” but I didn’t realise it until I saw the movie.” Shailene seems to be throwing us a bit of a red herring here, saying that she didn’t realise there was any chemistry between the pair. Although she did admit that she’s now noticed it, maybe it spurred her on to do something about it now that filming has wrapped!

Tris, our protagonist, is meant to take a test at 16 to be sorted into one of five factions, according to her dominant trait – wit, bravery, selflessness, honesty or peacefulness – but instead, Tris discovers that she is divergent, meaning that she has an aptitude for more than one faction. Her thirst for adventure leads her to a new faction, new friends and a whole host of threats, as  she discovers that her divergence makes her a target and unveils the inner workings of a  corrupt society.

'Divergent' Stars Zipline Onto The Jimmy Kimmel Show

Shailene Woodley Theo James Kate Winslet

Shailene Woodley and Theo James in Divergent Theo James and Shailene Woodley star in Divergent

The actors were asked by the host if ziplining was involved at all in the making of Divergent causing Woodley to joke, "This is just something we do in real-life. Traffic is insane!” Woodley plays Tobias 'Four' Eaton in the upcoming movie with Shailene Woodley as Beatrice 'Tris' Prior. The cast also includes Kate Winslet, Zoe Kravitz and Ansel Elgort.

Divergent is the first movie in the upcoming franchise based on the novels by Veronica Roth. It focuses on teenager 'Tris', played by Shailene Woodley, who seeks to break free from her homogenous society that divides people based on human traits. It is directed by Neil Burger, with a screenplay by Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor. The book series has sold far sold over 5 million copies.

The success of the novels has made the film one of this year’s mostly hotly anticipated releases. Kimmel compared  the film’s "intense fame and scrutiny" to that of other franchises such as The Hunger Games and Twilight.  James said he was aware of the possible scrutiny when he signed up for the film, saying, "We both talked about it. It's a thing you need to think about, to contemplate how it's going to change your career and your life. At the same time, you don't know what anything is going to be. You can't predict the future.” Woodley agreed adding, "the lack of anonymity is the most daunting factor, but you never know what will happen.” The pair also joked that their new morning regime included seeing how fast they can hide their faces behind masks.

Kate Winslet Shailene Woodley Theo James

The rules are very clear in Divergent: you don’t question the rules. Everyone is slotted neatly into five factions; these factions think, live and breath according to their categorization. And what happens if you can’t be put in the right place? Well, you’re already dead.

Divergent - Teaser Trailer

Tris Prior is a 'divergent' in a world where everyone is split up in accordance to their dispositions. This means that she is no one of any faction of virtue, but a combination of all of them; something that makes her particularly powerful and unreceptive to the manipulative powers of the government. Given her position, she is warned not to reveal her circumstances to anyone, but to pick one faction and hope that nobody discovers her, otherwise she will be hunted down and killed. Determined to know just why divergents are such a threat to the world, she sets out to find out more about herself and her capabilities while becoming increasingly close with her faction initiation instructor, Four.

'Divergent' is a dystopian story about a futuristic society; a story rather in the vein of 'Ninteen-Eighty Four' and 'The Hunger Games'. It has been directed by Neil Burger ('The Illusionist', 'The Lucky Ones', 'Limitless'), written by Evan Daugherty ('Snow White and the Huntsman', 'Killing Season') and Vanessa Taylor ('Hope Springs', 'Jack & Bobby'), and is based on the 2011 novel of the same name by Veronica Roth; the first of a trilogy. It will hit cinemas in the UK on March 21st 2014.

Shailene Woodley's Mary Jane Watson Cut Out Of New 'Amazing Spider-Man' Film

Shailene Woodley Spider Man

Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker's other love intrest to Gwen Stacy in the Spider-Man comics, has been written out of the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2, with Shailene Woodley's character being deemed surplus to requirements on the next film. Sony Pictures have recently green-lit a third and fourth movie for the franchise, so there may be hope yet that Woodley will appear as MJW at some point.

The actress, who has recently signed on to star in The Fault In Our Stars, had begun to film some of her parts for the movie and her introduction had fans hoping that it would bring a new dimension to Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker character and his masked alter ego, Spiderman. Entertainment Weekly report in their next issue that the Divergent star will be waiting until the third edition of the Amazing Spider-Man films before she makes an appearance as MJW, which comes out in June 2016. There hasn't been any word on whether the footage already shot with Woodley will be scrapped or kept for the next film.

"Of course I'm bummed. But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason...Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film," Woodley told EW. The up-coming Spidey flick already features a jam-packed line-up, with Paul Giamatti and Jamie Foxx playing the film's main antagonists Rhino and Electro and Chris Cooper will be playing Norman Osbourne/ The Green Goblin in the film too, with Dan DeHaan playing his son and Peter's friend Norman Osbourne. Not to mention, we also have the continuing story of Peter and Gwen (Emma Stone) and Peter continuing to understand his powers.

No Fifty Shades? Shailene Woodley To Star In 'The Fault In Our Stars'

Shailene Woodley Emma Watson

Shailene Woodley has dropped the biggest hint yet that she will not playing Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie by accepting the lead in Fox's 'The Fault in Our Stars.' According to Variety, The Descendants actress has been long rumored for the role though had to work out scheduling conflicts with her projects.

Woodley has now signed on the film, which is directed by Josh Boone and based on the book by John Green about two young cancer patients who fall for each other during treatment. "During our exhaustive search to find Hazel Grace Lancaster, I saw some stunning auditions by today's finest young actresses," Boone said of the arduous casting process. "Over 250 girls read for the part, but it wasn't until Shailene stepped in front of the camera that I truly saw Hazel for the first time.  It was like lightning striking.  I can't wait for the rest of the world to see what I have."

Woodley broke out with her role as George Clooney's on-screen daughter in The Descendants, which earned her a Golden Globes nomination for best supporting actress. She will next be seen in the A24 picture 'The Spectacular Now,' though has long been rumored to be on the shortlist for Universal's Fifty Shades of Grey. Her association with The Fault In Our Stars now makes that possibly unlikely. Earlier this week, Harry Potter actress Emma Watson ruled herself out, while Mila Kunis has spoken of her reluctance to take the part.

If Emma Watson Isn't Doing 'Fifty Shades Of Grey,' Then Who Is?

Emma Watson Kenneth Branagh Alexis Bledel Shailene Woodley Henry Cavill Alex Pettyfer

Emma Watson is officially out of the running to play the submissive Anastasia Steele in Kelly Marcel's adaptation of the S&M novel 'Fifty Shades of Grey.' Watson - who, of course played Hermione Granger in Harry Potter - has long been considered one of the favourites to play the female lead in theUniversal and Focus Pictures movie, though she shot down the rumors in a couple of posts on her Twitter page this week. Watson, who recently turned down the opportunity to play Cinderella in Kenneth Branagh's upcoming Disney movie, started off by telling followers, "Who here actually thinks I would do 50 Shades of Grey as a movie? Like really. For real. In real life."

After encouraging her fans to respond, Watson presumably got few affirmative replies, or plenty of tweets warning her off the project, tweeting, "Good. Well that's that sorted then." The nature of her tweets suggest Watson has been approached by Universal about playing Anastasia and it's likely she would have been the studio's first choice. "I haven't read the book, I haven't a read a script, nothing," Watson told EW.com in July 2012, "There are so many movies you become attached to when I've literally never even received a phone call. It was the same way with 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' - I never even saw a script!"

The Fifty Shades movie remains without a lead actor, actress or director, despite Universal's hopes of releasing the film in summer of 2014. Shooting is likely to go ahead within the next couple of months, though Watson ruling herself will have given producers a potential headache. Is she isn't playing Steele, then who is?

Is Paul Giamatti Set For Dream Role In The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

Paul Giamatti Andrew Garfield Jamie Foxx Emma Stone Shailene Woodley Dane DeHaan

Somebody must have been reading when Paul Giamatti expressed a desire to appear in a Spider-Man film, back in 2011. It’s now been reported that the actor is in talks to join the cast for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the reboot which stars Andrew Garfield as the web-firing mutant hero.

Giamatti is apparently in talks to play the villainous Rhino, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The character first appeared in the 41st issue of the comic back in 1966; hailing from a Soviet Bloc country, he wore a suit that made him invulnerable whilst giving him super strength and speed; speaking back in 2011, Giamatti admitted that he loved the character. “I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid,” he commented. “It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, ‘Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies,’ but maybe The Rhino wasn’t that big of a deal for anybody but me. If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting.”

And it appears that Marvel Entertainment have listened; if he does sign up he’ll be joining an impressive looking cast, with Garfield and Emma Stone both returning. Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley and Dane DeHaan are also appearing. Marc Webb once again directs.

Is Mila Kunis Pushing Herself For Fifty Shades Of Grey Movie Role?

Mila Kunis Emma Watson Shailene Woodley

As the race to play heroine Anastasia Steele in the forthcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie hots up, one popular Hollywood actress has thrown her hat into the ring. Mila Kunis, 29, admitted to The Sun that she could have "a good time" playing the novel's erotic lead character, who is locked into an S&M relationship with the domineering billionaire Christian Grey.

Of course, the books were a publishing revelation, but the movie could be even bigger. Screenwriter Kelly Marcel - who was immediately hired to write the movie - says she is "100 per cent going there" in terms of matching the book's raunchy narrative, however, producers are yet to speak publically about the casting process. Getting the wrong actor or actress could prove disastrous, so it's no surprise that the team are keeping the cards close to their chest. Harry Potter star Emma Watson, 22, says she is yet to see a script but is thought to be interested, while Ryan Gosling, 32, remains the frontrunner to play the enigmatic Mr Grey. Mila - currently dating Ashton Kutcher - appears enthusiastic about the project, "There are times when you just want to do something fun and different, because you're going to have a good time doing it."

Currently, Kunis the around the 5/1 mark with the bookmakers to land the role of Steele, with Sin City actress Alexis Bledel the market leader. Our tip is Shailene Woodley, star of Alexander Payne's The Descendants and currently available at 3/1.

Shailene Woodley: Not Unemployed For Long, Confirmed For The Amazing Spider-Man

Shailene Woodley Emma Stone Kirsten Dunst

In a tumultuous day, Shailene Woodley found herself unemployed for all of two hours at the most, when 'Secret Life of the American Teenager' was cancelled, before it was revealed that she has been offered the chance to play Mary Jane Watson in 'The Amazing Spider-Man' sequel. And all this comes amid rumors that she's the favourite to play Fifty Shades' Anastasia Steele. It also comes in the same year that she was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in 2011's 'The Descendants', playing the daughter of George Clooney, no less. 2012 is truly the year of Shailene Woodley.

'The Amazing Spider-Man' film, which is fast becoming a franchise, is the prequel to the 'Spider-Man' films that starred Tobey McGuire and Kirsten Dunst. Woodley would effectively be playing a young Dunst who also played Mary Jane. However, in the first of the 'Amazing' films saw Peter Parker coupled up with Gwen Stacy, played by Emma Stone. In the original comics, Stacy is killed by the Green Goblin, leaving room for him to fall madly in love with Mary Jane. However, it is unclear whether producers plan on sticking religiously to the original text.

At the time, NY Daily News reports, Stone said of this original plot line:"Any story that causes people to burn their comic books and cancel their subscriptions is a story that I want to be a part of.” Woodley has not yet been available for comment. The second film in The Amazing Spider-Man series is set to begin production in early 2013 and released in 2014.
