Shailene Woodley has hit out at the ''toxic'' 'Twilight' franchise.

The 22-year-old actress has slammed the romantic fantasy films - starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner - because she doesn't think the movies are sending out the right messages to young people.

She told the April edition of Teen Vogue magazine: '''Twilight', I'm sorry, is about a very unhealthy, toxic relationship.

''She falls in love with this guy and the second he leaves her, her life is over and she's going to kill herself!

''What message are we sending to young people? That is not going to help this world evolve.''

However, Shailene - who appears in a variety of erotic scenes in 'White Bird in a Blizzard' - is determined to make her roles as believable as possible.

She said previously: ''When somebody's doing a sex scene and they're wearing a bra and underwear, that's not how it happens in real life. If I'm going to say yes to a movie where this is necessary, then I'm going to bring truth to that situation.''

Meanwhile, the 'Divergent' star recently opened up about her own love life and admitted she doesn't limit herself to one sex when it comes to dating and is instead attracted to people's personalities.

She said previously: ''I fall in love with human beings based on who they are, not based on what they do or what sex they are.''
