Shannen Doherty has confirmed she will be part of the upcoming pilot for the TV reboot of 1988 film Heathers.

Doherty starred as Heather Duke in the original black comedy, which also featured Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.

The pilot is being produced by TV Land and has not yet been picked up for a full series.

Doherty announced her involvement by sharing an on-set photo Instagram which she captioned: “Sneak peek from the #Heathers set……jealous much?”

According to Variety the actress will play a "pivotal, unnamed character" in the pilot, which is being set in the present day.

The website reports that the new series features “a group of all-new Heathers, who have the same character names from the original film, but this time, the outcasts have become high school royalty.”

Doherty’s original character, Heather Duke, will be played by Brendan Scannell. The character is now a man who identifies as gender-queer and whose real name is Heath.

Described as a “pitch-black comedy” the pilot has been written by Jason Micallef and is directed by Leslye Headland. It is currently filming in Los Angeles.

This isn’t the first time Doherty has appeared in a reboot of one of her famous projects.

She also reprised her role as Brenda Walsh on ‘90210’, CW’s reboot of classic 90s teen series 'Beverly Hills 90210', for seven episodes from 2008 to 2009.
