Ambulances were called to the upmarket Champneys Health Spa in Surrey at the weekend, after Smith was taken ill suddenly.
BAFTA-winning actress Sheridan Smith has reportedly been rushed to hospital after collapsing at an exclusive spa retreat following her extended break from performances of her musical ‘Funny Girl’.
According to a report in The Sun, staff at the upmarket Champneys Health Spa called an ambulance on Sunday evening (May 22nd) after realising that Smith had fallen ill. Paramedics reportedly attended her at the scene before she was taken to Royal Surrey County Hospital in nearby Guildford for further treatment. Fortunately, she was soon discharged and is said to have made a full recovery.
Sheridan Smith at the TV BAFTAs earlier this month
This comes just a couple of weeks after producers of ‘Funny Girl’ announced that Smith was taking up to a month of recuperation from the show after she missed a handful of performances in the wake of the TV BAFTAs earlier this month.
This in turn came after the news of her father’s cancer diagnosis in March had devastated her, followed by a performance in late April during which she was observed slurring her words that left people questioning her ability to perform.

“Sheridan has been at Champneys to undergo total rest while she’s been recuperating during her time off from ‘Funny Girl’,” an unnamed source told the tabloid paper.
“She has been in a better place and things have been looking up, but on Sunday there was a medical emergency and ambulances were called.”
It is not therefore believed that this incident is related to her mental state or the stress for which she is being treated.
A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance said in a statement later on Tuesday: “We were called just before 5.20pm on Sunday following reports of a woman in need of medical attention. A car from South Central Ambulance Service was sent, along with an ambulance which we assisted with. She was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to hospital as a priority.”
