The 'Transformers' actor is "not famous anymore" which has just brought him a whole lot more attention.
So Shia LaBeouf isn't famous anymore? Why then, if the 27 year-old Nymphomaniac actor is so averse to a bit of spotlight, has Shia embarked on a trail of most bizarre incidents, starting will his plagiarism of a graphic artist's work, followed by over-apologising, declaring his retirement, walking out of a Nymphomaniac press conference, wearing a paper bag with "I Am Not Famous Anymore" and leading up to his LA art exhibition.
Shia's "I Am Not Famous Anymore" Stunt Brought Him More Fame, Ironically.
The list of weirdness was long enough without the art exhibition, entitled "#IAMSORRY." Visitors are reported to have been scanned by a security guard before they were allowed in one at a time to "see" Shia. They were expected to pick an implement from a table, which apparently included a Daniel Clowes graphic novel, a wrench, and some Hershey Kisses, before going into a room where Shia sat silently with a bag over his head.
According to a press release, Shia collaborated with artists Nastja Säde Rönkkö and Luke Turner to launch the exhibition, which has been compared to a very similar Marina Abramovic installation at the Museum of Modern Art in 2010.
Jerry O'connell Leads The Parody Art Exhibit, "#IAMSORRYTOO."
Taking a leaf from Shia's book of plagiarism, actor Jerry O'Connell and comedy website Funny Or Die set up a parody exhibition right next door called "#IAMSORRYTOO." Inside, visitors chose from a similar table of implements, including a Blu-Ray copy of O'Connell's movie Stand By Me, whilst O'Connell tearfully apologised to everyone wearing a crinkled paper bag reading "Super Famous."
Though O'Connell's exhibition poked fun at Shia's efforts - dubbed performance art - in actual fact he claims to be impressed by the young star. "Everyone's talking about it, whether you want to call it art or a real apology, it's hilarious. He's getting people talking. I'm all for this artsy gallery thing. It's fun to parody because all I have to do here is sit with a bag on my head, crying, and saying, 'I sowwy.' But I have to tell you; it's freeing to continually apologize like he does. I get it," via BuzzFeed.
No One's Really Sure How Shia Will React To Such A Blatant Ribbing From O'Connell.
O'Connell did admit that he didn't know if what they were doing would be condoned by the currently unpredictable LaBeouf. "The only thing we're fearing is that Shia, who I don't know personally, is known to fly off the handle. I just need fair warning if he comes storming in here for a bagged man on bagged man fight because I can't see out of this paper bag. I'm sweating like Shia in an apology booth in here. I just need warning to take cover," he said.
If it comes to fists, followed by more apologies, it'll be Shia who makes the trip: "There's no f***ing way I'm going over there," Jerry exclaimed. "I wouldn't wait in that line to see a Shia movie!"
