SIA - This Is Acting Album Review

The latest album from Sia - This is Acting is a follow up to her successful 2014 album 1000 Forms of Fear and her 7th studio release. This is Acting is a self-written album by the Australian singer and consists of twelve tracks, some of which the singer wrote for the likes of Rhianna but were turned down, knowing this it might leave some listener feeling that This Is Acting is a second hand record with the tracks being released for the sake of it, however there are still some great moments.

SIA - This Is Acting Album Review

Opening track Bird Set Free showcases Sia's empowering vocal, the soft, angelic keys in the intro entice us in before imploding into a dramatic chorus elevate Bird Set Free. Toning down the album is Alive, which is a mediocre track and unfortunately doesn't live up to the song title. Only Sia's confident vocals help savour the song but there's not enough vibrancy or creativity pouring out of the track for it to be considered memorable.

Move Your Body and Cheap Thrills aid the energetic production of This is Acting with the fast, catchy beat being fitting for a nightclub. Move Your Body lives up to the track title with influence of latino music.

Sia Is "Saddened To Be Getting Shit" After Not Attending Australia's ARIA Awards

Sia

It seems Sia has been on the receiving-end of some harsh backlash from fans after she chose not to attend Australia's ARIA Awards ceremony on Wednesday (Nov 26th), especially since she was prized with four awards, and got even more hate after apparently only recording one acceptance speech.

Sia
Sia took to Twitter to address why she missed the award ceremony

Fellow Australian, rapper Iggy Azalea was also absent from the award show, which led local media outlets to speculate whether some nominated stars thought they were "too cool" for the ARIAs.

Kylie Minogue Delights Londoners With Surprise Karaoke In Shoreditch Boozer [Video]

Kylie Minogue Sia

We've all heard similar stories: a musical legend hops on the mic at a random karaoke to perform their own hits and the tale goes down in history. However, some stars decide to take that magic into their own hands and engineer an "impromptu" performance that quickly gets tweeted and blogged about across the world.

Kylie Minogue
Kylie Brought Some Cheer To Shoreditch With A Secret Karaoke Performance.

Kylie Minogue appeared in the diddy London pub, The Old Blue Last, in Shoreditch last night for a bit of speedy publicity and a clever plug of her new album, Kiss Me Once. Due to the security detail, fans at the Kylie karaoke evening still weren't allowed near the star whilst she performed her three songs onstage so it wasn't exactly a front room party.

Black, White And Neon Britney Jean Cover Art Meant To Show Off Another Side Of The Pop Princess

Britney Spears Sia William Orbit Will.i.am

This week marks a special event in music – Britney Spears, queen of pop, has unveiled the cover art for her seventh studio album, Britney Jean. It seems that Britney meant for this one to be more personal than any of her previous work, and so the cover is fairly simple – a black and white picture of Brit herself, with the title spelled in blue and pink neon – perhaps a reference to her Vegas connection and upcoming residency?

Despite UK Artist Success, CD Album Sales Down 19.5%, Overall Album Sales Down 11.2%

Adele One Direction Mumford And Sons Sia Ed Sheeran

It's no real surprise that sales of CD albums have dropped by 19.5%, with the rise of mp3 players and everyone using laptops, phones, and tablets along with the internet for all their musical needs, the CD is fast becoming redundant. However, as the BBC reports, overall album sales have dropped by 11.2% while fans opt to download singles (sales of which have risen by 6%) rather than an artist or band's full set of new music.

The British Phonic Industry (BPI) have released the data, and their Chief Executive, Geoff Taylor, commented on the statistics, Like all other industries in the nation, the Olympics helped out. "The Jubilee celebrations and the London 2012 Olympics provided a great showcase for British music internationally," he said, adding that "market conditions at home remained difficult and pressure on the 'leisure wallet' impacted music sales on the high street." Indeed, numerous artists saw as much success overseas as at home, including One Direction, Mumford & Sons and Adele, all of whom have enjoyed number one albums in the USA. The highest selling album artists of the year were Adele with 2011's album 21, Emeli Sande's Our Version of Events, and Ed Sheeran's +.

The final week of December saw the highest downloads of the year with "more than 1.3m albums and 5.6m singles" being downloaded. Streaming music has also become increasingly popular, while "UK music fans streamed more than 3.7 billion tracks in 2012." Most streamed tracks included  Somebody That I Used To Knowby Gotye ft Kimbra, Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen and Titanium by David Guetta ft Sia

Out Now: US Album Releases (Nov 6) Aerosmith, Ne-Yo, Skyfall OST, Third Day

Aerosmith Taylor Swift Steven Tyler Ne-Yo Carrie Underwood Adele Sam Mendes Third Day Sia

OK, so the majority of the US public have just one race on their minds today and that’s the US Presidential race. But once that’s been decided in a few hours, all thoughts will surely be turning to the all-important albums chart race… surely? Can any of this week’s releases threaten Taylor Swift’s position at the top or will she get a second term at number one?

Aerosmith have returned, after an 11-year hiatus from writing any new material. Time appears to have stood still on Aerosmith-land in those eleven years and Music From Another Dimension is pretty much as you would expect an Aerosmith album to sound. Of course, Steven Tyler’s presence on American Idol has brought the attention of Aerosmith back to a new generation of fans, so much of this material may well even sound fresh to them.

Out Now: UK Album Releases (Nov 5), Robbie Williams, JLS, Aerosmith, Ne-Yo

Robbie Williams Calvin Harris Take That JLS Aerosmith Ne-Yo Carrie Underwood Sia

Calvin Harris will most likely be taking a peek at this week’s UK album’s releases (Monday November 5, 2012) and resigning himself to handing over the albums chart crown to Robbie Williams, come Sunday. In fact, it’s quite appropriate that Robbie has named his album Take The Crown, because that’s exactly what we think he’ll be doing this week.

Take The Crown is Robbie Williams’ ninth solo studio album and if the first single to be lifted from the album is anything to go by, it’s heading straight for the top of the charts. ‘Candy’ went in at number one yesterday, following an appearance from Williams on the UK’s X Factor show the previous weekend. The former Take That singer recently welcomed his first child into the world – what better way to celebrate than with a number one album?
