The Chandelier hitmaker suffered from depression and addiction to painkillers and alcohol for several years in the 2000s, but she turned her life around in 2010 after reaching rock bottom and contemplating suicide.

She has been sober ever since and she celebrated the milestone by encouraging others trying to stay on the wagon to keep up the hard work.

She writes on Twitter.com, "5 years sober today. If you're newly sober, keep at it, it gets so so awesome. YOU CAN DO IT."
