Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney bowed out of his On the Run tour on Tuesday night (20Dec11) in style, playing in his hometown of Liverpool, England.
The musician extended his trek in October (11), shortly after wedding Nancy Shevell, and added 11 new dates throughout November and December (11).
After announcing the new gigs, MCCartney revealed he couldn't wait to finish the tour in his hometown just before Christmas, a year to the day since he last performed there.
And on Tuesday night (20Dec11), the veteran rocker beamed with delight as he performed at the Liverpool Echo Arena.
He told the crowd, "This is brilliant! This is the last night of our tour and what better place to end it than my own hometown. I'm gonna take a moment just to drink it all in for myself."
Throughout the three-hour set MCCartney performed a medley of hits from his solo career and The Beatles' back catalogue in front of guests including his brother, Mike MCCartney, and John Lennon's half-sister, Julia Baird.
