Prudence Staite has used only vegetables to produce images of meat-dodging stars as part of an awareness campaign by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Other famous faces in the bizarre gallery include pop stars Ellie Goulding and Emeli Sande, fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, and actor Alan Cumming.

All the images are created entirely of vegetables, with hairstyles the most striking feature of the portraits.

Morrissey's famous quiff is made from sliced red onions, Lewis' lush locks are re-created using courgettes, carrots, and green beans, and MCCartney's 'mop top' features broccoli, asparagus, and cabbage.

"Many of today's biggest stars are choosing vegetarian and vegan meals every time they sit down to eat," says PETA Director Mimi Bekhechi. "And what better day than World Vegetarian Day to choose to follow in their great example and go meat-free - for your health, the planet and animals, too?"

One of the stars featured has already told of her delight with the portraits - Bleeding Love singer Lewis took to Twitter.com to tells fans, "Oh my goodness I'm literally made of vegetables! This is making me hungry too."
