5 Bands To Check Out If You Love Slipknot

Slipknot Polar

Through several generations metal has constantly managed to persevere thanks to the innovation and creativity of rising bands. Whether they be slow burner talents that gradually earn their stripes, or overnight sensations that shake the foundations of the genre, metal has survived because of new talent. However, few bands came in hotter and with more impact than Slipknot, when their debut album blew the world away in 1999.

Given their presence, fame, image and dominance both within and beyond the metal scene, it should be no surprise to learn that Slipknot have inspired dozens of bands. Slipknot’s turbo charged thrash metal style was like nothing the world had seen before when they emerged, but many names have tried to replicate this aggression and conviction since. Obviously, not all have succeeded, as going toe-to-toe with one of the most commercially successful metal bands ever is no easy feat. But, some names are hidden gems in the modern heavy metal landscape, just waiting to be discovered by the world.

From Bad Guy To Old Town Road: The 10 Best Singles Of 2019

Billie Eilish Lewis Capaldi Maroon 5 Stormzy Taylor Swift FKA Twigs Slipknot Rammstein

This year has marked quite an explosive end to a decade in terms of music, as we appear to be looking at a future of young musicians doing exactly what they want, how they want, while many long-established artists have refused to compromise their sound to stay relevent. The result is some seriously unapologetic and infectious tunes that will stay on our playlists for a long time to come.

1. Bad Guy - Billie Eilish

She's released without doubt our favourite album of the year with 'When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go?' at the age of just 17, and it's almost impossible to pick any one single to talk about here. 'Bad Guy' however is an example of how pop doesn't have to be the stereotypical sound you're used to hearing, because Billie Eilish has seriously changed the way we think about chart music.

Taylor Swift Sleater-Kinney Slipknot

So far August is looking a lot better for music than July has been, and there really is a lot to look forward to whether you're a pop junkie or a die hard rocker. Taylor Swift, Sleater-Kinney and Tool are among some of the most eagerly anticipated of the month. Here are seven of the most exciting.

Mabel - High Expectations
August 2nd

This week we note the release of 23-year-old pop princess Mabel's debut album High Expectations - and, as mainstream female soloists go, there certainly have been high expectations for this one after the Platinum-certified single Don't Call Me Up. The question is: Does it live up to them?

Slipknot Won't Play With Foo Fighters For Sake Of Their Fans

Slipknot Foo Fighters

Slipknot's The Clown has admitted he wouldn't want to play a joint show with the Foo Fighters in case it alienated his band's fan base.

The masked 'Psychosocial' rockers' percussionist - whose real name is Shawn Crahan - was asked during a panel at Pollstar Live! in Los Angeles whether the two huge groups would ever join forces for a festival.

As reported by Blabbermouth, he responded: "I ask myself, does Slipknot want to play next to the Foo Fighters? The answer is no, because my kids don't want me to do that.

Slipknot - Alexandra Palace 9 February 2016 Live Review

As we awaited the circus of the nine-masked men that make up Slipknot, the thundering bassline of David Bowie's 'Ashes to Ashes' fittingly powered around the Alexandra Palace; a stout reminder that the theatrical tendencies and uniqueness of Bowie hasn't died with him, but lives on in the remnants of others.

Slipknot - Alexandra Palace 9 February 2016 Live Review

I'm not sure this type of gig is what the Victorians had in mind for such an astounding venue, and as Corey Taylor said himself: "This could be the classiest venue we've ever played. I don't know if they'll ever have us back after what we do tonight."

Bounding on stage and opening with The Negative One, the venue shook with anticipation and excitement. A whole crowd moving and headbanging is an astonishing thing to see, as all the fans, affectionately nicknamed 'maggots', became one big family.

Download Festival - 2015 Live Review

One of Europe's best rock and metal festivals returned to its home at Donnington Park last weekend and it's safe to say, once again, that Download smashed it. With a range of bands from Kiss, Motley Crue, Billy Idol, Rise Against, Parkway Drive, We Are Harlot and more all booked to play, there was something for everyone at the festival, and that was one of the most noticeable highlights.

Download Festival 2015 Review

Despite the torrential rain pouring down during Slipknot's set, they pulled off one of the best shows to date on Friday and set an extremely high standard for the rest of the headliners. Playing hits like 'Psychosocial', 'Devil In I', 'Spit It Out' and 'Custer', and attempting to break the Download record for the most amount of people all jumping up at the same time they certainly went all out.

Muse were considered to be a controversial band to have booked, but all concerns were quickly dashed as soon as they hit the stage on Saturday. Matt Bellamy's vocal abilities were on top form as the band belted out tracks from their newly released album 'Drones' as well as well-known hits like 'Supermassive Black Hole' and 'Plug In Baby'. Even those who were indifferent or somewhat disliked Muse couldn't deny that they put on the show of a lifetime complete with dancing lights, pyrotechnics, confetti and inflatable balls.
