Snoop Dogg Donald Trump

Snoop Dogg has rendered the internet divided by his actions in the new BadBadNotGood video for 'Lavender', after he uses a joke gun to apparently assassinate a character dressed as a clown version of President Donald Trump. Senator Marco Rubio has suggested the endeavour is dangerous.

Rapper 50 Cent has defended ‘X Factor’ contestant Honey G, whose act has been branded ‘racist’ by some viewers.

Justin Bieber Brags About His 'Great Gatsby' Party Following Noise Complaints

Justin Bieber Snoop Dogg

Justin Bieber fancies himself as a dandy from the Roaring Twenties it seems, as the Canadian singer has reportedly compared his latest party to being like something right out the page of a F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. After a recent house party at the Bieber gaff forced police out to his place three separate times, Bieber has taken a fancying of himself in the mould of the infamous fictional party host.

Justin thinks his parties are worthy of going down in folklore

The 19-year-old threw a wild get together at his place in the Calabasas region of California, a high end suburb for the Los Angeles district known for its high profile list of residents. On Friday (15 Nov.) night, the singer threw a party at his Calabasas home as a homecoming gift to himself, having come fresh from an eventful tour of South America, and things soon got out of hand. Police were apparently called to the house on three separate occasions - at 1 am, 3am and 5.30am - prompting the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department out to the scene to ask the partygoers to keep things down.

Very Good

Whizzy and superficial, this isn't the most complicated animated film ever made, but it's a lot of fun if you can buy into its silly premise about a snail who moves at super-fast speed. Aside from its riotous sense of energy and thrilling action sequences, the script is also packed with enough deranged humour to keep the adults laughing along with the kids.

It starts in a normal garden, where Theo (voiced by Reynolds) dreams of racing his human idol, the Indy champ Guy Gagne (Hader). Theo even calls himself "Turbo", annoying his pragmatic brother Chet (Giamatti). Then a freak accident involving nitrous-oxide gives him lightning speed. In search of a chance to race, he meets another dreamer with a practical-minded brother: Tito (Pena) is a man who owns a taco truck with his grumpy sibling Angelo (Guzman). And it's Tito who works with local business owners (Jenkins, Jeong and Rodriguez) to help Turbo achieve his goal to enter the Indianapolis 500 and race against his hero. On the track, Turbo is assisted by a pit-crew of Tito's pet snails (Jackson, Rudolph, Dogg and Schwartz).

Yes, the plot is preposterous, but the script openly acknowledges the insanity of the "snail vs car" race, maintaining the dizzying size discrepancy as all of the characters are just as incredulous as we are. The filmmakers also create a hilarious snail underworld packed with running gags about the perils of being so little. Although they haven't included much slime, which is a strange omission for a movie aimed primarily at pre-teen boys. Still, each snail (and each human too) is such a bundle of big personality traits that we don't really mind the gender and ethnic stereotypes.

Snoop Dogg & Eddie Murphy Release Reggae Track: Listen To 'Red Light'

Eddie Murphy Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg may be famed for for his fantabul-izzle rap skills but it seems he's turned his full attention to the rhythmic rolls of reggae for a brand new song with actor Eddie Murphy. Under the moniker 'Snoop Lion,' Snoop released a reggae album earlier this year and he has featured on Murphy's upcoming album, 9, contributing a few lines towards the end of the song in his unmistakeable drawl.

The music artist and the actor - although both men have been known to switch these roles - have collaborated in a brand new catchy jam with a bouncy steel drum beat and some classic "woy oy oy"s. "Out of the frying pan/into the fire/burning down the people's souls," sings Murphy alongside the repeated refrain of "Red light/star bright/there where you are." After just one play of the lead track from 9, you'll find it hard to stop yourself from singing along.

Turbo has big dreams for such a small garden snail; dreams that stretch beyond his regular, sluggish, plant-pot dwelling life. He wants to become the fastest mover in the world, even faster than his favourite racing driver, and compete at the IndyCar races, but, as nature would have it, no matter how much training he does, he simply can't gather speed. However, one day, while gazing at the blurry flow of traffic on a highway, his wish comes true when he is sucked into the back of a vehicle and submerged in a tank of nitrous oxide. On making an escape, he finds himself glowing like a lightbulb and zooming past his inching friends a hundred times faster than he ever believed was possible. On his journey to speedy stardom, he meets Whiplash, Skidmark, Burn, Smooth Move and White Shadow; a crew of other racer wannabes who take him under their wings.

Ben Affleck Is Guy’S Choice Awards’ ‘Guy Of The Year’

Ben Affleck Clint Eastwood Brad Pitt George Clooney Mickey Rourke Matt Damon Jennifer Aniston Jessica Alba Snoop Dogg Vince Vaughn Jimmy Kimmel Henry Cavill Burt Reynolds Jeff Bridges Jake Gyllenhaal Jennifer Garner

Ben Affleck was awarded with the Spike’s Tv ‘Guy of the Year Award’ on Saturday (aired last night). The ceremony took place in Culver City, California. Affleck was presented his antler shaped (nicknamed ‘mantler’) award by fellow Oscar winning actor and director, Clint Eastwood. This is one of many awards; Affleck has received this year including an Oscar for his film Argo.

The Awards were first held in 2007 and previous winners have included Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Mickey Rourke, Maek Wahlberg and Matt Damon. As you’d expect, the awards are hardly female friendly (there is an award named the ‘holy grail of hot’) yet many turned out for the event including Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Alba.

The awards are hardly on par with the Oscars or a Golden Globes – there was a category in 2012 for ‘Hottest Zo(o)e(y)’. The nominations for this particular award were somewhat limited. However, the award’s lack of prestige did not prevent Affleck celebrating backstage with Snoop Dogg, Vince Vaughn and Jimmy Kimmel.

Ke$ha Drinks Her Own Urine. Repeat. Ke$ha Drinks Her Own Urine

Kesha Snoop Dogg

The headline pretty much says it all. Yes, 26-year-old Die Young singer Ke$ha has clearly been watching Kevin Costner in Waterworld. But while Costner managed to set up a nifty gadget that purified his urine into fresh water, Ke$ha is simply swilling it down - straight from the barrel, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

The singer has gained a reputation for being somewhat  of an oddball. In her new documentary series by filmmaker brother Lagan Sebert, she's filmed jumping out of airplanes, making out in clubs, crying over nasty comments from bloggers and drinking her own urine. "I heard it was good for you. That was, like, the rumor," she said of the latter. "But I don't know. I'm also just one that doesn't shy away from things. I'm not good at saying 'no' so I just figure, f--k it, I'll try anything once. So I tried it. I wouldn't recommend it. It was pretty gross. And I don't think it really did anything very beneficial to me so, yeah, I wouldn't probably do it again".

The party-girl hit the headlines earlier this month after it was alleged she was puffing on a joint onstage at the MTV Movie Awards with Snoop Dogg, though Ke$ha coyly refuted the allegations. "It was glitter. . We were just smoking my glitter," she said.

America's favourite EDM fest The Ultra Music Festival have rounded off their last weekend with an impressive line-up.

We expected nothing less than exhilarating, flawless electronic finery from Ultra's uber exciting 2013 2-weekend line-up and neither weekend's artists held back at all as they hit Miami's Bayfront Park full of enthusiasm. Weekend 2's line-up saw a sting of disc jockey legends including double Grammy winner David Guetta, DJ royalty Fatboy Slim, the more recent chart sensation Deadmau5 and the Gold-selling Calvin Harris. Other attendees included Afrojack, who recently remixed Psy's YouTube hit 'Gangnam Style', Dutch sensation Armin Van Buuren, Italian DJ Benni Benassi and out latest electronic music heroes Zeds Dead. Snoop Lion (aka Snoop Dogg) became the highlight of weekend 1, however, and he probably felt right at home having collaborated with many artists on the bill.

Reincarnated Review

Good

There's a nagging sense of indulgence that leaves us wondering just how truthful this documentary actually is as it follows Snoop Dogg on a voyage of personal discovery. Part of the problem is that he smokes so much weed that we're not even sure how much he'll remember about his decision to travel to Jamaica to reinvent himself. But at least he has this film to remind him of what happened.

Snoop, aka Calvin Broadus, decides to record a reggae album instead of his usual rap, so he takes his entourage to Kingston to explore the Rastafarian beliefs of his idol Bob Marley. He knows this will involve shifting his musical focus from his violent past to a more love-filled approach, and this is affirmed when he meets original Wailer Bunny (who renames him Snoop Lion) and Marley's son Damian. They explore key locations from the Wailers' past, smoking an almost comical amount of ganja with the locals. And along the way, Snoop reminisces about his earlier life working with Dr Dre, the late Tupac Shakur and his cousin Nate Dogg, who died in 2011 after a series of strokes.

All of this is presented in a loosely linear narrative, as their experiences in Jamaica are combined with extended flashbacks to events that have affected Snoop's life along the way. It's an intensely intimate odyssey, as Snoop talks openly about leaving his life as a gangster and pimp behind him and returning to his wife Shante and their children. Director Capper lets us watch all of this through Snoop's eyes, which creates a sharp portrait of an intelligent man on a strongly artist quest for meaning.

Turbo Trailer

Turbo is a regular garden snail who, unlike his friends, is bored of living his life at a. well, snail's pace. As much as his friends and family try to convince him that his dreams of becoming a super-fast racer are, frankly, ridiculous and utterly fruitless, he refuses to give up hope and makes a wish that is set to change his life forever. After accidently finding himself taking a ride on the roof of the racing car of one of the fastest racers in the world, he finds himself flying into a tank of nitrous oxide which transforms his genetic code and makes him one of the fastest moving creatures on Earth, putting other wannabe snail racers to shame.

'Turbo' is the hilarious and delightful new animated movie from DreamWorks about the power of hope and determination in striving to achieve your dreams. It is David Soren's directorial feature film debut, though he has worked on a string of other animated flicks in other departments. He also co-wrote 'Turbo' with Darren Lemke ('Jack the Giant Slayer', 'Shrek Forever After') and Robert D. Siegel ('The Wrestler', 'Big Fan'). It is scheduled to be released in UK cinemas this Autumn on October 18th 2013.

Where Does Your Favourite Music Come From? Song Writers B.O.B, Busta Rhymes, Luke Laird And Snoop Dogg Chat On Stage About Influences

Snoop Dogg Busta Rhymes Grammy Awards

BMI's annual pre-Grammy Awards songwriter's panel, "How I Wrote That Song", was an interesting meeting of minds, made somewhat more interesting by Snoop blazing up a blunt.

Often, what makes a song popular is its relatability: how well its audience can relate to the sentiments within. However, it never fails to be fascinating to find out where those lyrics, the ones that make us laugh, cry, and vent any other variety of emotions that they evoke, came from originally. Every year, BMI hosts a panel of some of pop, R&B and rock's most successful song writers to talk about the origins of the music they write. This year's panel was made up of Snoop Dogg, Luke Laird, B.O.B., Evan Bogart and Busta Rhymes.

Clearly, there was something of a hip-hop bias while compiling the panel, but that worked to its merit. In fact, as Billboard reports, one of country music song-writer Luke Laird's influences was Snoop's pre-eminent album 'The Chronic'. Growing up in the country, in a town with a population of just 700, you'd not think that hip-hop would be a the genre of choice. However, as he said: "Let me just say, the album everyone was listening to was 'The Chronic.'"

Bestival 2013: Will Elton John Or Snoop Lion (Snoop Dogg) Wear Fancy Dress?

Elton John Snoop Dogg Rob da Bank

Here at Contactmusic, we’re already taking bets on how many punters at Bestival will be dressing up as Elton John on fancy dress day. Or possibly for the whole weekend. If you’re planning on going to the festival, on the Isle of Wight this summer, you’d better get your outrageous glasses purchased now, because they’re sure to run out pretty soon. Apparently, it was the power of fancy dress that lured Elton to the festival. “I’ve heard that the Bestival audience comes in fancy dress and I can’t wait to see that, they must all look amazing from the stage.”

Elton’s appearance is a serious coup for the festival, which is curated by Radio One DJ Rob da Bank. He admits “I haven't played any of the major festivals in the UK in recent years,” so the chance to catch him at a relatively small (though influential) affair on the ever-expanding UK festival circuit will be a treat. “When the opportunity to play Bestival came up I was very interested,” Elton told The Guardian. "Bestival seems to be more of a people's festival, not too big, and very friendly - I like the idea of that.” Whether or not Elton’s planning on wearing fancy dress too, remains to be seen.

The second of the festival’s headliners to be announced is the US rapper Snoop Lion (the artist formerly known as Snoop Dogg, that is), another rarity on the UK’s outdoor gig scene. The event takes place on September 5-8, 2013. Snoop will headline the Saturday night and Elton takes the iconic closing slot on the Sunday.

Bunny Wailer Disgruntled By Snoop Lion And Threatening To Sue For Being A False Rastafarian

Snoop Dogg Bob Marley

Snoop Lion used to be called Snoop Dogg and was born Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr - that's a lot of names for one person to have in their lifetime. The reason behind Snoop's anthropomorphising is due to his new found rastafarian status, apparently. However, now, after Snoop has made a documentary called 'Reincarnation' and recorded his first reggae album, Bunny Wailer of Bob Marley and the Wailers, is threatening to take legal action against the ex-rapper.

Speaking to TMZ he said that Snoop Lion has committed "outright fraudulent use of Rastafari Community's personalities and symbolism," and has failed to meet "contractual, moral and verbal commitments." Along with Bunny's comments, Snoop has also received a seven page letter from Ethio-Africa Diaspora Union Millennium Council (aka Rastafari Millennium Council) expressing their disgust with his actions.

They feel that Snoop's documentary is reductive and makes it looks as though "smoking weed and loving Bob Marley and reggae music is... what defines the Rastafari Indigenous Culture!" When it most certainly is not. All of this has culminated in a potential law suit. "[T]hey want Snoop to stop using the name "Lion" ... pay up the "financial and moral support" they claim he committed, and issue a public apology." Everyone knows him as Snoop Dogg anyway, he's got bags of money and sorry is just a word. Shouldn't be too difficult.

Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap Trailer

Hip hop has always been more of a culture than just a genre of music. It represents a huge portion of the marginalised world of America and how they managed to create something from nothing; how their lifestyle and previously buried literary talents created a culture that has inspired millions. The frontman of rap/ metal band Body Count Ice-T takes his audience on the road to visit the founding fathers, the major superstars and the rising stars of the rap genre including Afrika Bambaataa, Eminem, Nas, Mos Def, Kanye West, Chuck D, Krs-One, Snoop Dogg, Run-DMC, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube and discover the skill and feeling behind what has made them international music heroes. One of the frequent interviewees is Grandmaster Caz who we are taken to visit on several occasions as he writes a new set of rhymes called 'The Art Of Rap'.

Directed by Ice-T with help from Andy Baybutt, 'Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap' is a feature length music documentary delving into what goes into making the seminal hip hop records that have dominated music since the late '70s. It came about when producer Paul Toogood asked Ice-T the simplest of question which the star had never before been asked: How did he write seminal tracks such as '6 In The Mornin' and 'Colors'?

Featuring: Common, Ice Cube, Chuck D, Mos Def, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Nas, Kanye West, Darryl McDaniels, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane

Election Day 2012: Obama Or Romney? Let Your Favorite Celebrity Decide!

Barack Obama Jay Z Beyonce Knowles George Clooney Stacey Dash Kid Rock Snoop Dogg

And so the day finally arrives. After months of campaigning, it's officially Election Day 2012, with America set to choose between President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney. There's nothing more either man can do but sit back, try to relax and hope the votes flood in.

One thing's for sure, it's going to be no landslide for either candidate and both will pull in millions of votes to make it one of the closest run elections in years. As a Democrat, Obama can rely on California and New York, and Romney is certain to take Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina - basically everything in the south - though the election hinges on the swing-states Florida, Nevada and most importantly, Ohio. The bookmakers certainly think they know who's going to be President on Wednesday, offering odds of around 1/6 on President Obama with around 9/2 on Mitt Romney. We're pretty sure Republicans may think that's worth a flutter, though if you're still unsure about who to vote for - or think you've voted for the wrong candidate - check out the celebrity endorsements to see if your favourite stars agree with you!

Drugs And Loaded Gun Seized: Nelly’s Tour Bus Raided In Sierra Blanca

Nelly Willie Nelson Armie Hammer Snoop Dogg Fiona Apple

Nelly’s tour bus was searched at a border patrol in Sierra Blanca, Texas. Heroin was uncovered, alongside a loaded firearm, reports MTV.

The rapper was detained on Wednesday night (October, 9 2012) but wasn’t arrested, after Brian Keith Jones – a man on the bus with him – admitted to being the proprietor of the 0.64 ounces of heroin, more than 10 pounds of marijuana and a loaded .45-caliber pistol. He was, of course, subsequently arrested after the dogs sniffed out his batch of illegal stuff. “It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest this morning,” NME reported Nelly as saying. “Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring these on board. Law enforcement officials did not press charges against anyone other than that individual.”

Sierra Blanca seems like a honey trap for celebs that insist on smuggling narcotics: Willie Nelson, Armie Hammer, Snoop Dogg and, most recently, Fiona Apple have all been arrested for drug possession in the Texas town. "Most of the people were very nice to me," Apple said of her arrest. "There are four of you out there, and I want you to know I heard everything you did, I wrote it all down with your names and everything you did and said stupidly thinking I couldn't hear and see you."

Nelly's Whole New Dilemma As His House Is Raided, Drugs Seized

Nelly Willie Nelson Snoop Dogg

Nelly, the multi-platinum selling rapper with a trademark band-aid on his cheek has had his tour bus raided by police, where they found heroin, a loaded gun and a huge amount of weed, so reports TMZ.com. Nelly was subsequently detained by police in Texas.

The bus was stopped for a routine check at a stop point in Sierra Blanca, and sniffer dogs were used to root out the contraband material. Apparently, according to law enforcement sources, 0.64 ounces of heroin were found in 36 different bags and over ten pounds of marijuana in a 'large green duffel bag'. There were 7 people on board the bus at the time of the rain, all of whom were detained during the search, but have since been let go after a man named Brian Keith Jones admitted to sole possession of the drugs and gun.

The Sierra Blanca checkpoint is a notorious place for celebs to be busted for drugs, most famously Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg. And being just 30 miles from the Mexican border the entire area is rife with drug smuggling.

Fiona Apple Arrested For Marijuana Possession On Mexico Border

Fiona Apple Snoop Dogg Willie Nelson Armie Hammer

We're looking forward to seeing what long-winded song title Fiona Apple comes up with when she gets around to writing a song about this one. That's right, the singer songwriter who once held the dubious honour of writing the world's longest album title, was reportedly arrested on the Mexico border after being found to have marijuana on her persons.

Apple certainly isn't the first music star to be stopped on the border and found to have the green stuff on her. Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg and Armie Hammer are three of the not-so surprising names to have found themselves in trouble with the law for possessing the banned substance. Apple was found to have hash on her as well as a small amount of weed and as such the 35 year-old is being held at Hudspeth County Jail.

It hopefully won't derail what's been a fairly promising comeback from Apple, who released her first album in seven years this year, giving it the typically long-winded title The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do. The album went to number three on the US Billboard Charts, although it hasn't got anywhere near sales of her phenomenally received debut album Tidal. Released in 1996, that sold some 2.7 million in the US.

Justin Bieber: Never Say Never Review

Good
Clearly designed with his 12-year-old female fanbase in mind, this backstage myth-making doc wants to show that Justin Bieber is "just a regular kid who had a dream that came true". As if.

Born in small-town Canada, Justin started showing musical talent very early and was encouraged by his young single mum Pattie and grandparents Diane and Bruce.

As the 12-year-old Justin sang and played guitar and drums in local venues, Atlanta music producer Scooter Braun spotted a YouTube video. Studying with mentor Usher was followed by years of flogging Justin's live talents to radio deejays and internet fans. And as his following grew, a record label finally took notice.

Pete Wentz To Appear On Californication

Pete Wentz Ashlee Simpson David Duchovny Fall Out Boy NME Perez Hilton Snoop Dogg

Pete Wentz is to make a cameo appearance on the hit US TV show Californication.

The Showtime series stars former X- Files actor David Duchovny as a writer living in Los Angeles.

Fall Out Boy bassist Wentz is reportedly going to play himself in the episode, which is scheduled to air in September, reports NME.

According to Perez Hilton, "Duchovny's character, the troubled writer Hank, will see Pete at a pool party hanging out with the show's resident teen, Mia. Pete will tell Hank how much he enjoyed his book."

Wentz and singer Ashlee Simpson married recently, announcing that they are expecting their first child just weeks afterwards.

Rapper Snoop Dogg recently imparted some of his parenting advice to Wentz when he appeared on the FALL OUT BOY star's show FNTV.

In the comedy sketch, SNOOP DOGG advised Wentz to keep the new baby in the garage, reports Showbiz Spy.

The L.A. Riot Spectacular Review

Weak
A film that works overtime to offend each and every ethnic group and economic class that makes up the smoggy purgatory of Los Angeles while simultaneously patting itself on the back for being so putatively daring, The L.A. Riot Spectacular is a cynical exercise in erstwhile satire that's all the more frustrating for the wasted opportunity it represents.

Like a series of linked MAD TV skits done without regard to network censors - the humor is about that intelligent - the film presents the 1992 Rodney King beating and subsequent riots as a grand comic opera of greed and stupidity, going after everybody involved with equal vigor. One can get a feel for how writer/director Marc Klasfeld intends to approach his subject a few minutes in, when the car chase and police beating of King (T.K. Carter) is done as a jokey game, with a police helicopter pilot serving as the announcer ("and they're off!"), while the cops themselves, having pulled King over, place beats over the ethnicity of the guy inside. Then Snoop Dogg shows up - serving, appropriately enough, as the film's narrator and chorus - to introduce the film proper, while fireworks go off behind him.

Bones Review

Weak
In this cheesy flick, rapper extraordinaire Snoop Dogg simply barks up the wrong tree. Snoop, who has previously tested the acting waters with his menacing persona in inner city dramas such as Training Day and Baby Boy, gets to strut his stuff in director Ernest Dickerson's garishly laughable thriller. Dickerson (Juice) wastes his star in a labored vehicle that is riddled with misguided camp and countless spook-infested clichés. Not enough to even deem this imbecilic fable a worthy copycat blaxploitation flick, there are sticks and stones that can certainly break the brittle Bones. No doubt the filmmakers behind this bloated hip-hoppish Halloween costume drama will draw its intended audience to see their "phat" Snoop Dogg do his thing. It's too bad he plays second fiddle to the ridiculous premise of this mockish movie.

Snoop Dogg portrays charismatic hood Jimmy Bones, a stylish late '70s dude with a cool demeanor to match his threads. Jimmy has always protected his community by looking out for his crime-ridden neighborhood. He possesses the cocky swagger of John Shaft and the street savvy of Superfly's Priest. We're told in flashback that Jimmy Bones refused to deal crack cocaine to his beloved people, and thus the crooked cops and thugs snuffed him out. But nobody betrays Jimmy Bones -- nobody! So he comes back from the dead.

Soul Plane Review

OK
Airplane! is the quintessential masterpiece of all airborne spoof films, and while numerous films have tried to replicate the original formula, very few have succeeded. Soul Plane is an inspired effort that updates many of the same gags, but it unfortunately does not have enough frequent-flyer miles to make the full round-trip.

Nashawn Wade (Kevin Hart), along with his buddy Muggsy (Method Man), uses the $100 million Wade wins in a court settlement against the airline that kills his dog, to buy an airline of their very own. Wade calls it NWA - no, not Northwest Airlines - Nashawn Wade Airlines (clever, huh?). It features one departure daily from the 3-1-0 (Los Angeles) to the 2-1-2 (New York) from the brand new Malcolm X terminal at LAX, where a brother can find bargains at a 99 cents store, play some half-court hoops, and eat some fried chicken before a flight.

The Real Cancun Review

Terrible
Six, if you must know. That's how many pairs of breasts get bared in The Real Cancun. Maybe more: For a movie that sells itself as a celebration of non-stop partying, it's damn hard to stay awake for much of it.

That's not a prude's complaint about how nubile college-age folks getting wasted in Mexico is degrading, insulting, or a sign of our moral decline. A well-made film about what happens on Spring Break would be a wonderful thing; it might tell us something about how people's personalities transform in a world without moral tethers, which is the stuff of good documentaries. Robert Flaherty went to the Arctic and made the great Nanook of the North, and if somebody went to Cancun and made Nookie of the South, I'd be all for it. Heck, give it some high-minded title - American Ritual, say - and even the Film Comment crowd would happily climb aboard.

Baby Boy Review

Weak

At the heart of "Baby Boy" -- director John Singleton's return to his "Boyz 'N the Hood" roots -- is a character with whom it's extremely hard to sympathize.

Played by R&B hip-hop artist Tyrese Gibson, his name is Jody and the fact that he's only 20 years old is supposed to excuse him for being a selfish, shallow, disdainful, disloyal, disrespectful, lying, cheating, irresponsible hypocrite with a huge chip on his shoulder.

Singleton, who set this story in the same neighborhood as "Boyz," expects us to see "Baby Boy" as Jody's journey into manhood because toward the end of the film he has a tired cliché of an insincere quickie epiphany. He realizes maybe he should stop running around on one of the two girls who have already borne his children, start taking some responsibility, get a job and support his kids -- or at least one of them. Well, duh.
