The Drop It Like It's Hot hitmaker, who hails from Long Beach, California, announced the news on Friday (20Mar15) as he delivered the keynote speech at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.

During the address, Snoop revealed he will serve as an executive producer on the family drama series, which will air on America's HBO cable network.

He said, "HBO is the number one network in the world as far as developing and having these types of shows come to life. This is a dream come true to be able to tell a story that's going to be told the right way on the right network."

Snoop Dogg is no stranger to TV - he recently starred in a five-part ESPN documentary series titled, Snoop & Son: A Dad's Dream, which followed the rapper and his sportsman son Cordell Broadus as he prepared for a college football career.
