Southport Weekender 48, Friday 11th May - Sunday 13th May 2012, Butlin's Holiday Resort. Minehead

SOUTHPORT WEEKENDER IS BACK! A year on from its first party at Butlin's in Minehead, Southport Weekender celebrates its 25th anniversary as a soul music dance event! What a fantastic achievement for Alex Lowes and Dave Gardener, who's vision 25 years ago, seeing a shift in fashion with a new emerging 'soul' scene, that has become a guaranteed sell out event in our current time! It's amazing to think that people at the first Southport Weekender event will be attending Butlin's, Minehead this May and that artists who have shaped the course of modern music continue to return back to this premier music haven! What's clear to me in this modern time of change and uncertainty is that Southport Weekender is fixed firmly in the hearts and minds of 6500 people who LOVE this event, whose support and loyalty has kept Southport Weekender established as a permanent yearly fixture in the UK, ensuring the best quality in the world!

Southport Weekender

SPW 48 is no exception! Once again the Southport Weekender has brought together the most profound and amazing mix of DJ's for their 25th anniversary, ranging from original DJ's from the first party in Berwick to modern current pioneering DJ's of our time and with some of the most influential DJ's of modern music! It's quite clear that anyone who has played at Southport Weekender in the past wanted to play the 'silver' anniversary. The DJ line up consists of:

Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Trevor Nelson, Dj Jazzy Jeff, Kenny Dope, Kerri Chandler, Joe Claussel, Tony Humphries, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, David Rodigan, Ig Culture, Jazzie B, Anthony Nicholson, Karizma, Fabio & Grooverider, Greg Wilson, Mr Scruff, Julio Bashmore, Joey Negro, Norman Jay, Danny Krivit, Terry Hunter, Al Kent, Andre Lodemann, Rainer Truby, Ronnie Herel, Atjazz, Floating Points, John Morales, Mr Thing, Kev Beadle, Colin Curtis, Gary Dennis, Phil Asher, Souldynamic, Andy Davies, Terry Jones, Sean Mccabe, Bob Jeffries, Mike Stephens, Gavin Kendrick.

The only thing I can really say to sum up this line up is that it's probably one of the best line ups I've ever seen! With a dazzling mix of American, UK and European DJ's who have legendary status, to upcoming pioneers who are bringing a new twist to the progression of soul, jazz and house music, SPW48 is set to have the dance floor burning all night long! I'm speechless really to comment on what were about to experience musically at Southport Weekender's 25th anniversary!

Let's not forget the live shows!! How could we! To the delight of everyone at Southport Weekender JILL SCOTT will be performing live in concert at SPW48!! This is a real treat and an ideal gig for such an amazing soul singer to perform at Southport Weekender's 25th anniversary. It's brilliant to see The Brand New Heavies back, as for me, one of the best bands to celebrate the achievement of Southport Weekender's success. It's fantastic to see Soul Ii Soul Presents Jazzie B feat. Caron Wheeler And Mc Chic A Boo on the line up. Amazing really! Other acts include: The Legendary Patrice Rushen And Friends (showcasing a star studded mix of musicians), Robert Glasper Experiment, Gregory Porter, Frank Mccomb, Kenny Bobien, Josh Milan (Blaze), Dawn Tallman, Natasha Watts, Shabazz Palaces, Lyric L. There's no denying Southport Weekender continue to create the best premium quality line up, that pulls together a glittering array of talent under one roof, in one venue! One love for sure!

The Southport Weekender family have genuinely done it again! They have raised the bar once more providing such a fantastic line up that anyone who likes soul, dance, jazz, funk, deep bass sounds progressive world fusion music, I think would love to attend SPW48. Indeed the line up is to be admired, however there's a reason why Southport Weekender sells out before the line up is even announced. It's because the people that have been to the event before know how good the atmosphere is, due to the quality people and good vibrations this unity creates. I'm sure SPW 25th anniversary will be no exception.

It will be interesting to see how the promoters have adapted to the move to Butlin's. Indeed all the change and uncertainty that occurred last year with the move to Minehead seems very far removed these days. With SPW 48 selling out in record time again it's clear that switching venues hasn't deterred the passion and love form the Southport punters. If anything it may have given Southport Weekender a new boost to take it further into the future. What's certain for me, knowing how professional the Southport Weekender family is, they will definitely want to improve on last year, even though most of the Weekender party people preferred the switch to Minehead. Despite 25 years of experience going to a new venue will have been challenging. It's certain all involved will want to ensure everything is a notch better this year and I'm looking forward to noticing the small details that is always apparent to me and cordially respected.

There's no denying for me that watching Jill Scott at Southport Weekender's 25th anniversary will be an amazing unique experience that I'm thoroughly looking forward to. It's great to see Derrick Carter back from last year and Mr Scruff back too, especially after listening to Southport Weekender Vol. 9 mix released this year. I'm sure there will be more overseas internationals attending SPW 48 due to the success of Suncébeat 2 held in Croatia last year. What's certain for me is that Alex & Dave have set up the perfect environment for what could be their best party ever! With 2012 set for many memorable events in the UK, what better way to get the party started with Southport Weekender's 25th anniversary! Bring it on!!
