Spider Man: Homecoming Trailer

It turns out that Tony Stark makes a better Avenger than a mentor. After a teenager named Peter Parker gets bitten by a radioactive spider, he finds himself with some incredible super powers; increased agility, and the ability to climb walls and shoot webs. Naturally, he feels alone with no idea how to use his newfound skills. That's when he meets Iron Man, who intructs him to use his powers to rid the streets of petty criminals with the strict caveat that he must leave any supervillain problems to the Avengers. It doesn't take long for Peter to get frustrated with Tony's treatment of him, and he longs to be a fully-fledged member of the team. Of course, he is still a kid, but when a new menace threatens the city in the form of the Vulture, he's determined to help take him down whether Tony likes it or not.

If Spider-Man Is So Amazing, Why Isn't He In 'The Avengers'?

Andrew Garfield Spider Man

Marvel Comics characters are all over cinema screens this year, from Captain America to Spider-Man to the forthcoming X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy. But after The Avengers united several characters, fans are wondering why there isn't more crossover. For example, why isn't Spider-man in the Avengers?

The Amazing Spider-ManAndrew Garfield as 'The Amazing Spider-Man'

The answer is pretty boring: it's down to business. Disney owns the Avengers and the Guardians (and Marvel itself), but Sony owns the rights to Spider-man and the Fantastic Four, while Fox owns the X-men.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will web-sling it's way on to cinema screens on 2 May (18 April in the UK) in 2014 and as the release date of the much-anticipated sequel to the reboot of the comic book spin off draws nearer, Sony have thought of a novel way to combine New Years Eve with a promotional push for the movie.

Spiderman 2
Spidey (Andrew Garfield) will face off against Electro (Jamie Foxx) and others in the new film

The AS-M2-oriented website ElectroArrives.com was been counting down the minutes to midnight in anticipation for something big for a while now. That something big became a little clearer today when director Marc Webb and Spidey himself appeared on Good Morning America to promote the film and explain the role Spiderman will be playing in New York City's new years celebrations. Not only will Spidey have a part to play in the ball drop counting down to midnight, but the evening will also see the airing of some new scenes from the movie for the first time.

Sony Announce 'Spider-Man' Spin Offs To Rival 'The Avengers' & 'Superman Vs. Batman'

Spider Man Andrew Garfield Marc Webb Jamie Foxx Paul Giamatti

Sony Pictures announced in Thursday, 12 December that they have big plans for the Amazing Spider-Man series, plans that involve various spin-offs and possibly even an ensemble release or two in the not-so-distant future. The announcement comes as Sony try to keep up with Disney and Warner Brothers, who have already gained a foot-hold in the superhero movie business, with Sony hoping to capitalised on the popularity of Spidey and his many cross-over villains and fellow heroes.

Andrew Garfield
Spiderman isn't leaving Sony's rooster any time soon

On Thursday, Sony Pictures announced - via Electro Arrives - that they are working on two villain-centred spin-offs from the Spidey franchise: Venom and The Sinister Six. This will give the film company opportunity to develop two major aspects from the Spider-Man comic books without having to rely on the Amazing Spider-Man films alone. Sony announced that they have appointed a “franchise brain trust" to oversee their expansion of the Spider-Man film franchise, who will ensure the series can survive outside the confines of the Amazing Spider-Man.

Why Sony's Refusal To Work With Disney Could Work In Spider-Man's Favour

Spider-Man has a big role to play in the future of Sony Pictures, despite the studio's recent announcements that it's drastically cutting its movie expenditure, as they look to produce more sequels and even some spin-off material from The Amazing Spider-Man series.

Despite this good news for Spidey fans, the studio have also announced that it has no intentions of teaming up with Marvel or Disney and introducing the web-slinger in the next Avengers movie, or any other future releases from the rival studio.

'Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark' Coming To An End On Broadway & Moving To Las Vegas

Spider Man Bono

Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark was a relatively popular stage show throughout its two year run on Broadway, yet despite regular ticket sales and generally positive reviews, the Spiderman musical struggled to meet its huge budget every night and there were regular reports of infighting coming from the set. Producers have decided to cut their loses with the beleaguered stage production, and will relaunch the show in Las Vegas for 2015, a producer for the show told the Wall Street Journal.

Spidermen
The Spidey stage show has remained popular, but not popular enough

With a total cost of $75 million throughout its two plus years on the stage, the production regularly failed to break even, particularly so in more recent weeks. Last week alone, the stage production only managed to gross $742,595 from a potential gross of more than $1.5 million. This kind of disappointing display has been plaguing the production for some time now, and producers seem ready at last to cut their loses in the Big Apple and try out another city.

New, Grainy Footage Of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Leaks Online [Video]

Spider Man Andrew Garfield Jamie Foxx Paul Giamatti Emma Stone

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be released in cinemas in the spring of 2014, and up to now we've hardly seen any sneak peaks from behind the scenes of the movie, that's until now of course. Footage from the first trailer for the film has made it's way online, taken from a sneaky Comic-Con goer who managed to film the whole thing on his phone (and judging by the quality of the video, he was either sat all the way at the back of the convention room, or has a lousy camera).

Shailene Woodley's Mary Jane Watson Cut Out Of New 'Amazing Spider-Man' Film

Shailene Woodley Spider Man

Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker's other love intrest to Gwen Stacy in the Spider-Man comics, has been written out of the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2, with Shailene Woodley's character being deemed surplus to requirements on the next film. Sony Pictures have recently green-lit a third and fourth movie for the franchise, so there may be hope yet that Woodley will appear as MJW at some point.

The actress, who has recently signed on to star in The Fault In Our Stars, had begun to film some of her parts for the movie and her introduction had fans hoping that it would bring a new dimension to Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker character and his masked alter ego, Spiderman. Entertainment Weekly report in their next issue that the Divergent star will be waiting until the third edition of the Amazing Spider-Man films before she makes an appearance as MJW, which comes out in June 2016. There hasn't been any word on whether the footage already shot with Woodley will be scrapped or kept for the next film.

"Of course I'm bummed. But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason...Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film," Woodley told EW. The up-coming Spidey flick already features a jam-packed line-up, with Paul Giamatti and Jamie Foxx playing the film's main antagonists Rhino and Electro and Chris Cooper will be playing Norman Osbourne/ The Green Goblin in the film too, with Dan DeHaan playing his son and Peter's friend Norman Osbourne. Not to mention, we also have the continuing story of Peter and Gwen (Emma Stone) and Peter continuing to understand his powers.

'The Amazing Spider-Man 3 & 4' Are On Their Way As Andrew Garfield Signs Up For Two More Spidey Films

Andrew Garfield Paul Giamatti Emma Stone Jamie Foxx Spider Man

Andrew Garfield has committed himself to the Amazing Spider-Man movie franchise by agreeing to appear in a further two films with Sony Pictures. The production company announced the franchise's expansion into four movies in a statement release on Monday (June 17), although no other information was released about the film, so feel free to let your imagination run wild.

Garfield is going to go one further than Tobey Maguire did in his turn as Spiderman and the actor is already filming the finishing touches for the second Amazing Spider-Man film, which is due out in May next year. The studio also announced that the films will be released in relatively quick succession, just as the second film is swiftly wrapping up with filming. The studio announced that the third and fourth instalments of the film will be release on June 10, 2016, and May 4, 2018 respectively.

Before we can begin to think about the third and fourth films, let take the time to relish what we have in store when The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is released. Garfield's Spidey has all kinds of trouble to deal with this time round, with his personal problems going to heck when Peter Parker's other love interest, Mary Jane Watson (Shailene Woodley) shows up, much to the displeasure of Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy. If his personal life wasn't hectic enough, there's two baddies around this time for him to battle, with Paul Giamatti playing a gangster-fied version of Rhino and Jamie Foxx set to send sparks flying as Electro. The fittingly named Marc Webb will return to direct too.

3rd & 4th Instalments Of 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Have Been Agreed By Sony

Andrew Garfield Spider Man Jamie Foxx Paul Giamatti

Whilst filming for the sequel of 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man is still underway, the bosses at Sony Pictures have already decided that they will extend the film franchise for another two film, at the very least, after it was announced that a third and fourth follow-on to the superhero movie have already been place in pre-production.

In an announcement made by Sony Pictures bosses on Monday (June 17), current Spidey Andrew Garfield has agreed to stop on for the planned films and filming for the movies will beging almost as soon as Spidey 2 has been distributed. The studio announced that the third and fourth instalments of the film will be release on June 10, 2016, and May 4, 2018 respectively.

In slightly more current news, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is due in cinemas by May 2, 2014, and features a similar make-up to its predecessor in terms of personel worKing on the project. Like the 2012 movie, Garfield will return as the web-slinging hero and the fittingly named Marc Webb will return to direct. Emma Stone returns as Gwen Stacy, with Shailene Woodley joining the cast as Peter Parker's other love interest, Mary Jane Watson. Chris Cooper will appear as Norman Osborn and Dane DeHaan will play his son Harry, with Paul Giamatti and Jamie Foxx set to portray the two villainous roles as Rhino and Electro respectively.

'The Amazing Spider Man 2' filming continued to get underway in New York on Sunday (May 26th 2013) leaving behind it a trail of destruction on the City streets.

A particularly devastating scene was spotted being filmed, with a mass of crashed, overturned and ablaze vehicles littering the set. Andrew Garfield was in his Spider Man garb as he addressed onlookers from atop a smashed up car through a loudspeaker. He is also seen approaching a young boy in a copycat outfit who, after what looks like a pep talk with Peter Parker's alter-ego, subsequently flees the riotous scene. The scene is the latest of on set sneak peeks that have slowly been accumulating after snaps emerged of 'Django Unchained' star Jamie Foxx showing off his new look as the blue villain Electro and Paul Giamatti from 'Cinderella Man' making a fierce appearance as equally evil baddie The Rhino. Meanwhile, Emma Stone has revealed a MAJOR spoiler about her own character (though we won't reveal it for those who haven't read the prophetic comics).

Spiderman 2 Update: Jamie Foxx Looks Terrifying As Electro, Maxwell Dillon Not So Much

Jamie Foxx Spider Man

Pictures have been revealed of Jamie Foxx’s look in Spiderman 2. Sporting a receding hairline wig as Maxwell Dillon, and Foxx looks like a pathetic loser. After (as geeks will now) the lighting strike, and he’s looking scary as Electro.

The pictures were released from the set, and show Foxx wearing bland work clothes and carrying a briefcase. His character arc sees him a lonely, workaday American, until lighting strikes and he takes on Electro – a far more terrifying prospect. With a black cape and luminous blue face – veins popping out – Foxx really cuts the mustard as a villain, so far anyway. But the original, comic book character doesn’t look like that; the 1963 version was green and yellow, so what’s changed? “It won't be green and yellow. It will be a different colour,” Foxx confirmed before the picture was released. “They (the producers) want something for the future. They want to have it more grounded and not as comic book-y, so it won't be green and yellow. They want to try new things, like a liquid rubber and things like that, and there are all these bolts and stuff in my arms when they are hanging me upside down and trying to figure out what happen. How did he become this way?"

Will Paul Giamatti Play Rhino In The New Spider-Man Movie?

Paul Giamatti Spider Man

Paul Giamatti is rumoured to be in talks to play Rhino in the newest Spider Man movie, which will be set for release in 2014, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Giamatti is an unsung hero of Hollywood. He's a chameleon in many ways and has had incredible supporting roles in films such as Saving Private Ryan and The Truman Show, plus a darkly hilarious role as the lead role in American Splendour. He's rarely in the spotlight, but his supporting characters illuminate their respective stars in an understated way. His role as Rhino would almost certainly be a triumph.

Rhino has been both a baddy and a goody in historic Spiderman comics. His first appearance was in 1966 when Rhino was an Soviet 'thug' who had a super-suit which gave him super strength, super speed, and made him entirely invulnerable. However, in later stories he became an ally of Spiderman. Regardless of whether Giamatti will play Rhino it is still unclear as to which side of him we'll see.

Peter Parker Death Sparks Outrage, But Will The Movies Reflect The Comic?

Spider Man

Peter Parker is Spiderman, and Peter Parker has died, which means Spiderman has died. Not in the movies, but where it all began, in the humble comic book.

This latest plot line, for Spider-Man 700, written by Dan Slott, sees the much loved superhero die, and fans are beyond outraged. They are, in fact, so upset that Slott has been sent death threats, which Slott does not find funny- as explained on Facebook, where he said: "Reality check: There is NO such thing as a "funny death threat." Especially if you TAG someone in it." While death threats certainly are going a little overboard, you can see why fans would be upset by this. Not only is Peter Parker dead, but his successor? Only his arch-enemy, Dr Octopus. The Doc stepped into the spidey suit and inherited all of Spiderman's memories and powers, which he believes will make him better than Peter Parker's Spiderman, CNN says. But can the suit make Dr Octopus good? We'll have to wait and see.

Unlike many other 'dead' superheroes and fictional characters, who actually do make it back to the page, Slott has said this death is for real. Well, Sherlock Holmes seemed to evade death from the written word, and he didn't even have any powers (except a great brain) so there's hope yet. Plus the movies don't always correspond with their respective written fiction, so although Parker's dead on the page, he'll live on on screen, starting next year when The Amazing Spiderman 2 gets released.

Is Jamie Foxx Lined Up To Play Electro In Next Spiderman Film?

Jamie Foxx Marc Webb Spider Man

Jamie Foxx could soon be sending shockwaves to audiences after it has emerged that he is to take on the shocking role of supervillain Electro in the planned sequel to this summers electrifying The Amazing Spider-Man (OK, no more puns).

According to Variety, the Oscar winner will star as at least one of the villains in Marc Webb's planned sequel to this year's triumphant return to the screen by Spidey. Although the news is still unconfirmed from movie execs, both Foxx and Webb have given some glaring hints that this is the case. Foxx tweeted on Thursday (Nov. 1) "Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well." Meanwhile Webb said at a recent promotional event for The Amazing Spider-Man DVD release,: "I think Jamie Foxx is electrifying! You'll be hearing more on that shortly I'm sure."

Electro (real name Max Dillon) has been a mainstay in the Marvel comics' Spider Man series since his debut in February 1964 and although he has made countless appearances in TV versions of the web slinging adventures, this would mark his first appearance on the silver screen. Dillon gained his powers (control over electricity) when he was struck by lightning while working on a power cable, but don't go trying that yourselves.
