The First Ever YouTube Music Awards Get Underway This Weekend - What Can You Expect From It?

The YouTube Music Awards will celebrate the achievements made online by both well-known and some more obscure (outside the world of viral videos) musicians for the first time this Sunday (3 Oct.) and the organisers have pulled out all the stops to make sure that the awards show starts with a bang. In fact, the awards show will be so extravagant that the man in charge of bringing it to life - Spike Jonze - doesn't even know what to expect.

Jonze, the director of countless award-winning music videos such as Weezer's 'Buddy Holly' and 'Sabotage' by The Beastie Boys, has been brought in as creative director of the event, tasked with making the awards show one to remember and one to challenge the established musical showcases, such as the MTV VMAs. Alongside fellow music video veteran Chris Milk and executive producers Vice Media and Sunset Lane Entertainment, Jonze isn't planning on making a showcase that can be easily compared to the VMAs or the Billboard Awards, for example, as they are going for a completely unique take on the tried and tested music awards ceremony.

Wolf Of Wall Street Trailer

Jordan Belfort started out his stockbroker business in a tiny office with a small group of people and had the intention of targeting only the richest people in America as their clientele. With such a small percentage of individuals lined up as hopeful patrons, their dreams of immense fortune and a life of luxury seemed embarrassingly unlikely. However, pretty soon the company starts to ooze more money than they can handle and it's parties, alcohol and women all round. Unfortunately, it soon becomes clear to everyone that what Belfort was doing to earn his fortune is not entirely legal and he risks his freedom and his wealthy lifestyle when the FBI get involved.

'The Wolf of Wall Street' is a white-collar crime drama based on the two memoirs by the real Belfort, who was jailed in 1998 for a string of fraudulent offences including money laundering. The autobiographies have since been translated into 18 different languages and now the Oscar winning Martin Scorsese ('Shutter Island', 'Goodfellas', 'The Departed') directs the screen adaptation which has been written by multi-Primetime Emmy winning writer Terence Winter ('The Sopranos', 'Boardwalk Empire', 'Brooklyn Rules'). The movie is set to be release on January 17th 2014.

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa Review

Good

The Jackass crew takes an oddly gentle approach here, abandoning their more riotous stunt-based movies for a series of undercover pranks, like Borat or Bruno without the social commentary. It's sometimes very funny, although more gags fall flat than hit the mark. But fans will enjoy the interaction between Knoxville and his fearless 8-year-old cohort Nicoll.

Knoxville is in character throughout the film as Irving, an 86-year-old whose wife has just died. At the funeral, his wayward daughter (Cates) turns up to drop off her son Billy (Nicoll) before she goes to prison. So Irving's job is to drive from Nebraska to North Carolina to deliver Billy to his loser dad. On the ensuing road trip the relentlessly mischievous Irving takes advantage of his newly single status to chat up every woman he meets, often with Billy's sharp-witted help. They also get up to all kinds of trouble, robbing a convenience shop, crashing a wedding, upstaging male strippers in a bar and even entering a "little miss" beauty pageant to earn some extra cash.

Whether you find this funny or not depends on your enjoyment of jokes that centre on genitalia, with a particular emphasis on farting. Essentially, the film is a series of elaborately staged set-pieces in which Irving and Billy do outrageous things to get a Candid Camera-style reaction from the general public. And it's often quite funny that people just shrug off things like drinking beer with an 8-year-old or carrying his dead wife's body in the boot of his car. The best sequence involves a gang of burly bikers who dedicate themselves to protecting abused children; watching them close ranks around Billy is actually rather sweet.

Her Trailer

Theodore Twombley wasn't exactly having the best time in his life. He never socialised, seldom spoke to his family and he had just been through a distressing marriage separation. That was, until, he met Samantha; a computer operating system designed to fit his every need. With a voice more human than you could imagine from a machine and a witty, caring but slightly nosey personality, Theodore becomes more and more attached to her. However, soon the distinction between man and machine becomes evident when he begins to fall deeply in love with her, despite the fact that she knows little about how human relationships work. With her gradually reciprocating love, Theodore gets caught in a crisis when he is forced to come to terms with the fact that the only person he wants to spend the rest of his life with isn't even a physical entity.

This romantic sci-fi tells the heart-breaking but troubling story of the relationship between human beings and their beloved machines. With a thoroughly talented cast, it has been directed and written by Spike Jonze ('Where the Wild Things Are', 'Being John Malkovich', 'Adaptation.') and it set to feature in cinemas in the US on November 20th 2013.

Spike Jonze's 'Her' Leaves Us Intrigued [Trailer]

Spike Jonze Joaquin Phoenix Scarlett Johansson

Some directors demand attention for every project they work on, and Spike Jonze is one of them. This is even more impressive when you total up his films: they amount to three – Being John Malkovich, Adaptation and Where the Wild Things are.

Joaquin PhoenixPhoenix promoting The Master in Toronto last year

His latest – ‘Her’ – tells the story of Theodor (Joaquin Phoenix), a lonely word-a-day man in the big city, which, from the trailer, seems to be in the not-so-distant future. When he encounters the "world's first artificially intelligent operating system” – named Samantha (Scarlett Johansson) – his life changes.

Jordan Belfort is a successful stockbroker, multi-millionaire and motivational speaker from New York who had enough money to throw anywhere he wanted. He was arrested and jailed in 1998 for a string of fraudulent activities surrounding stock market manipulation including money laundering and mob infiltration. He served 22 months in prison after being given a sentence of 4 years, famously refusing to cooperate during the case which exposed massive corruption on Wall Street. His crime was fuelled by his loved of alcohol, parties, women and, generally, the finer things in life including his luxury yacht which was originally built for Coco Chanel. He wrote two memoirs which were published in around 40 countries and have since been translated into 18 different languages.

Maurice Sendak - 'Where The Wild Things Are' Google Doodle Celebrates Author

Spike Jonze

Google’s home page must be the most sought after advertising space on the internet, but you’ll never see any advertising on there. What you will see is the odd celebration or dedication, as is the case today with a Maurice Sendak tribute.

Navigate to Google’s search engine and you’ll be confronted with a special animation to mark what would have been the 85th birthday of the legendary Polish author, whose other famous works include In the Night Kitchen and Outside Over There. Google’s animation stars with Max heading over to Where The Wild Things Are, before moving to the In The Night Kitchen universe before ending with the birthday party scene from Sendak's 2011 book Bumble-Ardy. Of course, Where The Wild Things Are will remain his most famous work, especially after the 2009 Spike Jonze-directed film, which landed with critical acclaim.

The tearjerker – scored by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs – brought Sendak’s work to a modern audience, and it didn’t fail to translate. The story sees a boy called Max let his imagination run wild. This takes him on a wild journey, as he encounters monsters in a far-off land before returning to his bedroom to find his dinner waiting for him. It was every kid’s dream, and therefore a huge success.
