Star Wars Daisy Ridley Tom Hardy Christopher Nolan Emma Watson Gal Gadot Dwayne Johnson Steve Carell Scarlett Johansson Vin Diesel Judi Dench Andy Serkis

As always, there are far too many sequels, spin-offs, remakes and reboots clogging the cinemas, but hopefully they'll be better than 2016's lacklustre batch. (Release dates are subject to change.)

The Big Short Review

Excellent

Smart and snappy, this comedy is one of the scariest films of the year, using humour to outline the 2008 economic collapse from the inside. With characters who are based on real people, the film shows how economists made a fortune from the financial devastation inflicted on millions of families. And the movie cleverly points out that all of this happened (and people are still getting away with it) because the general public can't be bothered to pay attention.

Things were so booming in the first years of this century that it was easy for the media to divert the attention of Americans away from the dark underbelly of the financial world, creating big scandals out of nothing, spurring rampant buying sprees and making stars of non-entities like the Kardashians. Meanwhile in 2005, investment expert Michael Burry (Christian Bale) noticed that America's mortgage market was turning toxic. So he offered to "short" it, betting against this always-stable market by purchasing credit default swaps. The banks thought they would make a fortune from him, carrying on their dangerous practices. But other experts saw Burry's point, including the nerdy genius Mark Baum (Steve Carell), the shark-like Jared Vennett (Ryan Gosling) and a pair of newbies (Finn Wittrock and John Magaro) who tip off their reclusive mentor Ben Rickert (Brad Pitt). When the economy imploded, these men became billionaires.

Director-cowriter Adam McKay is better known for silly movies like Anchorman, so he packs this film with raucous cutaways to pop culture references of the period, as well as hilariously absurd explanations of economic issues from, for example, Margot Robbie in a bubble bath or Selena Gomez playing blackjack. This approach actually heightens the horror of what's going on as fraudulent bankers and corrupt government officials conspire to undermine the foundations of the economy. Although the explanations still feel like gibberish to mere mortals, it's at least presented in a way that's entertaining.

Carell And Bale Enjoyed Playing Real Characters In The Big Short

Christian Bale Steve Carell

The Big Short is based on real people and events, and it has touched a nerve with viewers.

Carell says this is partly because everyone was affected by what happened. "We all have personal stories that relate to that time," he says. "The minutiae of what went down, no. But when you start peeling away the layers of the fraud and the duplicity, it's incredibly terrifying."

Oscars 2015 Line-Up: Notice Anything Missing?

David Oyelowo Ava DuVernay Bradley Cooper Steve Carell Clint Eastwood

The Oscars and white nominees go together like cheese and white bread – but in both cases, that doesn’t mean they’re good for you. With the kickoff of awards season 2015 came the inevitable backlash for the lack of diversity on the nominees list, but what are the bloggers saying this time around?

Oprah Winfrey, Selma
No Selma at this year's Oscars.

This year, it looks like the academy jury didn’t even try to seem unbiased – despite films like Selma and Gone Girl becoming massive critical and commercial successes in 2014, both Gillian Flynn and Ana Duvernay got left out of the race for Best Screenplay and Best Director, respectively. David Oyelowo also got snubbed, leaving us with a total of 0 people of colour in the acting categories. Now, it’s not that Bradley Cooper didn’t deserve his third nomination in three years (Best Actor, American Sniper) or that Steve Carrell’s transition into drama wasn’t nod-worthy (Best Actor, Foxcatcher) or that Richard Linklater didn’t create a masterpiece with Boyhood (Best Director).

Steve Carell, Channing Tatum And Mark Ruffalo Recreate The Schultz Brothers' Story For The Big Screen

Channing Tatum Mark Ruffalo Steve Carell

Foxcatcher, the new movie starring Steve Carell, is now out in cinemas. But it was not an easy road getting here. It’s a brand new direction for Carell, who has built a career on his quirky and, let’s be honest, pretty awkward brand of comedy. Now, he plays millionaire John Dupont, the sponsor of brothers and Olympic wrestlers Mark and Dave Schultz.

Steve Carell shines as the antihero in Foxcatcher.

Portraying the Schultz brothers are Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo – so not the typical cast you’d expect to see in a sports drama. But they do a stellar job of portraying the harrowing story of  Dave’s murder, point blanc, by Dupont.

'Foxcatcher' Took 7 Years To Make - But Boy, It Was Worth The Wait

Bennett Miller Steve Carell Channing Tatum Mark Ruffalo

Foxcatcher is beginning to pick up steam in an Oscars race that has so far been dominated by strong press for Boyhood and perhaps more curiously, Birdman. Inarritu's avant-garde comedy-drama will almost certainly provide Michael Keaton with his first trip to the Academy Awards for a while, though as a Best Picture contender, it has work to do.

Foxcatcher will be nominated for Best Picture - and its director Bennett Miller has been here before. Baseball drama Moneyball was up for the top gong in 2012, as was Capote in 2006. Based on a true story, Miller's film tells the story of John DuPont (Steve Carell), the wealthy benefactor to two Olympic wrestlers (Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo).

The Reviews Are In For 'Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues' And It Looks (Mostly) Good

Will Ferrell Steve Carell Paul Rudd David Koechner Adam McKay Anchorman

Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner are back as everyone's favourite news team in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. It's been almost 10 years since 2004's unparalleled look into the inner workings of local news stations in the 1970's first gave us Ron Burgundy and the rest of the Channel 6 news team and almost a decade later it seems as though they still now how to keep it classy.

The moustachioed maverick that is Ron Burgundy is back!

On the whole, the early feedback for the much-anticipated sequel s mostly positive. There are a few exceptions of course, with Betsy Sharkey of the Los Angeles Times leading the negative reviews. Skarkey, like most of us, is happy that Anchorman is back, but ultimately felt let down by Burgundy's second outing. She wrote, "While I'm glad Anchorman is back - we need a little levity in this year of heavy films - I do wish it were better."

Will Ferrell Paul Rudd Steve Carell

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues has to be one of the most eagerly-anticipated sequels in memory with the near decade gap between the upcoming release and 2004's The Legend of Ron Burgundy serving only to heighten the fan mania surrounding the franchise.

It has been a long wait but the release of The Legend Continues is only two days away and boy, do we know it. The 2004 movie may have been released to comparatively low fanfare but the sequel has been promoted for months on end with a seemingly never-ending stream of teasers, trailers, clips and in-character public appearances from Will Ferrell, AKA Ron Burgundy, and his hapless news team.

Despicable Me 2's Box Office Conquest Over Grown Ups 2

Steve Carell Adam Sandler Guillermo Del Toro Chris Rock David Spade Kevin James

In this weekend's battle of the light-hearted sequels, Despicable Me 2 has come out on top of the weekend's movie charts in the United States and Canada beating Adam Sandler comedy Grown Ups 2, despite the children's animation having been released on July 3rd in both countries. Despicable Me 2 raked in $44.8 million (£29.6m) from Friday to Sunday, leaving Grown Ups 2 slightly behind with takings of $42.5 million (£28.1m) in its first US weekend, according to Reuters. Though Grown Ups 2 is only marginally behind on its first days of release, it can't be an easy pill to swallow for actor Sandler who not only had his movie panned by critics before it was even released, but also had to relive the ordeal of being mauled by a cheetah whilst on safari in Africa on David Letterman's show.

The Lone Ranger Takes $10 Million. Just $205 Million To Go, Then.

Johnny Depp Gore Verbinski Armie Hammer Steve Carell Disney

The Lone Ranger took another $10 million on the 4th of July to take its overall total to just $20 million heading into the weekend. Gore Verbinski's new movie, starring Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as John Reid, is tracking for a five-day total of just $45 million - miles off its reported $225 million budget.

In contrast, the minions of Despicable Me 2 are celebrating after a huge $34.3 million opening day on July 3, which sees it pacing to wrap the weekend with $125 million, almost double its budget. The original movie, starring Steve Carell as the evil genius Gru, earned $56.4 million during a more traditional three-day opening in July 2010.

Disney staff have presumably entered the sweepstakes to guess which executive will be clearing their desk first after this mess. The Lone Ranger is potentially another John Carter - the big budget flop that cost studio boss Rich Ross his job. Everyone concerned will be preying that Depp's name on the posters will be enough to pull in the crowds over the July 4th weekend, though a slew of horrible reviews and a less than prominent promotional campaign has not helped the cause.

Will 'Despicable Me 2' Break More Records For Universal?

Steve Carell Russell Brand Miranda Cosgrove Kristen Wiig

Despicable Me 2’s special July 4th was independent in more ways that one: it was Universals biggest ever opening for a movie, with a total of $34.3m on Wednesday, despite most American’s enjoying the seasonally good weather. This has set it up to perform well over the weekend, as those little minions continue to delight audiences.

Despicable Me 2 GruGru being a family man

The hilarious animation – starring Steve Carell as the evil genius-cum-family man Gru – followed up the impressive Wednesday with a solid Thursday, managing $23.5m. All in all, a domestic total of $84.3m so far is good going, especially considering it’s still got a holiday weekend to sell. Even better news for Universal is, considering it’s an animation, it was rather cheap, costing a mere $76m to make – it’s already broken even and more!

His minions are helpless as Gru is taken off to the AHL's deep sea headquarters where the league has an interesting proposition for him. Despicable Me 2 is the captivating follow-up to the Golden Globe-nominated original, in fact The Guardian declare it to be "Funnier - and perhaps cuter - than its predecessor," with a film directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud. The original grossed $543 million worldwide (£357m) making a whopping profit and securing the possibility of a sequel. Perhaps the movie's success is due to the comedy factor brought about by the playful, helium-voiced minions? Mark Kermode seems to think so, in a golden review: "these yellow weebles are comedy gold, their slapstick antics blending a simplicity of form with a complexity of expression rooted in the traditions of silent cinema."

Despicable Me 2, the sequel to the first 2010 film, is due to be released in cinemas on Wednesday. Early critical reviews have been largely positive. Keith Uhlich of the New York Times said the franchise has improved since the last film and that it is "delights more often than it disappoints".

Whilst most of the critics have enjoyed the film there are others who criticised Universal Pictures for its lack of originality. Ryan Gilbey of The Statesman said the film is "a completely redundant follow-up to the perfectly delightful 2010 original". Others have drawn comparisons with Monsters University, claiming Despicable Me 2 "has more laughs in the first 5 minutes" than Monsters managed in 90 (according to Roger Moore of McClatchy-Tribune News Service).

Steve Carell On Anchorman 2 And James Galdolfini's Passing

Steve Carell James Gandolfini

Since Anchorman 2 was confirmed, then delayed, then re-confirmed, then given an official trailer not so long ago, every time one of the cast members gives an interview, attention inevitably turns to the sequel of the 2004 comedy monolith.

So when Steve Carell spoke to The Sun about Despicable Me 2 – the upcoming animated sequel – he ended up talking more about Brick Tamland than Gru. When asked if Anchorman: The Legend Continues", which will be out in December, will be just as funny as the first, Carell replied: “It’s hard to say. I don’t want to overhype it, but I think it will be really funny.” He’s probably right not to hype it too much, as the fans will be doing that for him.

“We were in Atlanta for two months. Just imagine being with your friends for two months and laughing hard every day when you go to work,” he explained on his ‘job’. “That’s a great way to spend some time.” Carell also took the time to pay tribute to James Gandolfini, who tragically passed away aged 51 from a heart attack. “It’s a huge loss. My thoughts go to his family. He was a great guy, really sweet, generous, kind and obviously a great actor. We were supposed to do something next year. It’s a big shock.”

Ron Burgundy Is Back And 'Burgundy-er' Then Ever In 'Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues' [Trailer]

Will Ferrell Steve Carell Paul Rudd Liam Neeson Harrison Ford

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues' trailer was released today and has been met with widespread excitement by comedy fans. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues follows the story of 70's newsreader Ron Burgundy and his group of hideous (yet hilarious) co-anchors. Ferrell stars as Ron, whilst Paul Rudd (Friends), Steve Carell (The Office) and David Koechner (The Office) play the rest of the team, Brian, Brick and Champ. The group first graced our screens in 2004. Christina Applegate (Up All Night) will feature as Ron's love interest Veronica.

In this instalment the group of badly dressed misfits have encountered the 80's. Ron has disappeared into obscurity only to be picked to host a new 24 hour news station. A series of farcical and not at all P.C. events occur.

Appearing in cameo roles are actors Liam Neeson (Taken) and Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones). Comedy friends of the four main actors who also play a part include Tina Fey, Sacha Baron Cohen and Jim Carey.

Steve Carell, who plays the lead character Gru in 'Despicable Me 2', talks about the movie in an interview, discussing Minions, Gru's reform and working with Kristen Wiig.

I was watching the Minions and I realised that they are the Marx brothers', he muses. 'They are these physical comedy geniuses. They're comedic relief within a comedy.' On the subject of his formerly evil character Gru, he explains, 'He wants to be a good dad, he knows he has to put his evil ways behind him. he has a little bit of a dilemma career-wise because he can't be what he was but he can't deny who he is.' His main partner in crime in the movie is Agent Lucy Wilde who is played by Kristen Wiig. 'Kristen Wiig, for starters, is somebody who is, in my opinion, never not good', Steve says. 'She is always funny, she's always the best thing in anything that she does. I've been a fan since I first saw her on 'SNL'.'

Still Classy: New Trailer Drops For ‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues’

Will Ferrell Paul Rudd Steve Carell David Koechner Christina Applegate Harrison Ford Kanye West

The second trailer for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues has rolled out online, though, uh, it’s not too different from the first one. Once again, the Channel 4 crew approach the camera and attempt to deliver their very best catchphrases. “Jesus, McArthur, Jay-Z—the great ones always return, and when they do, one thing's for sure: Their hair will be perfect,” says the narrator before David Koechner, Paul Rudd, Will Ferrell confidently deliver their lines. Of course, Steve Carell’s Brick Tamland messes the whole thing up, offering a rather weak “Happy Easter,” before trying, “Always make sure the parents are around before you hug children.”

Watch the original Anchorman 2 trailer!

The long-awaited sequel to the classic comedy also stars Christina Applegate, Kristen Wiig, James Marsden, Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson and Chris Parnell, plus a cameo from just about every celebrity in Hollywood. Last week, Kanye West was spotted shooting scenes for the movie on an Atlanta rooftop, while Harrison Ford, Nicole Kidman and John C. Reilly are known to be making appearances.
Judd Apatow ('The 40 Year Old Virgin', 'Knocked Up', 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall') returns to production, as does director Adam McKay ('Step Brothers', 'The Other Guys', 'Talladega Nights').

Anchorman: The Legend Continues hits theaters on December 20, 2013. Do you think the sequel will live up to the quality of the first movie?

The News Team Re-Assemble For Anchorman 2 Teaser Trailer [Video]

Will Ferrell Paul Rudd David Koechner Steve Carell

The day is fast approaching when Anchorman 2 is released to an eager public, with the second and third teaser trailer for the long-awaited sequel going viral this weekend. The new trailers follow the same formula as the first (released earlier his year), with the news team reeling off another line of funny quips each to the backdrop of bright stage lights.

San Diego's finest news anchor and his loyal team - played by Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Steve Carell - will return to the big screen in December this year, with filming for the project already underway.

To garner more anticipation for the return of Ron and the rest of the Channel Four news team, the official Anchorman 2 YouTube channel posted two variations of the teaser over the weekend, each as funny as the last.

Michael Scott Returns To Scranton In Fitting Office Finale

Steve Carell Rainn Wilson The Office

Steve Carell has come a long way since he first introduced himself to America as Michael Scott, the hapless boss of Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch, but even after two years (and two seasons) away from the show it was almost as though he'd never left The Office. Thursday's (May 16) 75-minute final farewell to the cast brought to an end nine seasons - spread over eight years, since 2005 - worth of highs, lows, loves and losses, and Carell's return served as the perfect icing on top of what was already a excellently crafted cake.

The feature-length send-off featured a reunion of the Dunder Mifflin colleagues old and new, who came to celebrate the marriage of office manager Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) and accountant Angela Martin (Angela Kingsley). And Carell's return as Scott was done in classic, cringe-worthy fashion, as the former manager re-entered the show to give his famous one-liner for a final time. Of course, where else other than a wedding is it more appropriate to enter a room saying; "That's what she said."

His insight into the wedding was equally as Scott-esque and best watched from behind a pillow, with the hapless character reflecting on the marriage when he told the camera, "It's like all my children grew up and they married each other."

Saying Goodbye To 'The Office' – Top 5 Moments

Steve Carell Ricky Gervais The Office

Tonight sees the finale episode of The Office hit NBC. It’s a sad day for sure, but after eight hilarious years of workplace jokes, it’s time to celebrate the life of this great show. What better way to remember it than a top 5 moments? A top 10 moment perhaps, but you’ll get what you’re given.

Steve CarellRicky Gervais
These two have been the face of The Office for over a decade

Kicking off our choice selections is The Christmas Goose; Dwight brings a dead goose into the office with only good intentions at heart, but the other staff members aren’t so sure they want a dead animal lying about. Our favourite line: “Can you watch this? I’m going to get my carving knife out of the truck.”

'The Office' Finale Will Be An Extended Bumper Long Episode!

Steve Carell NBC The Office

NBC is giving fans of The Office a nice little farewell present as the sitcom wraps up its nine-year run on May 16, 2012. The network has announced the final episode will be extended by 15 minutes, airing from 9pm till 10.15pm ET/PT. Though great news for Office fans, the news is hardly surprising given the show's executive producer Greg Daniels told the Los Angeles Times last week he was gearing up to make some pretty daunting edits on the final episode.

"There's all these moments and you want to make sure everybody has a chance to have some closure on their stories and say goodbye or whatever," he explained, adding, "It was a big question of trying to fit everything in. That's the big issue right now because we have an 81-minute cut for the final episodes, and we have to cut it down to about 41 or 42 minutes. That's half of it! I don't know how we're gonna to do it."

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant faced a similarly difficult task when wrapping up the original UK version of the show without leaving storylines open ended. One thing definitely happening in the season finale is the return of Steve Carell's Michael Scott, who will make a special cameo appearance.

Steve Carell To Return For 'The Office' Finale

Steve Carell Ricky Gervais

Guessing games with little information to go on are basically pointless. But now there’s something to go on: Steve Carell WILL be returning to The Office for the show’s finale.

Executive producer Greg Daniel gave the cryptic clue in a conference call with reporters last week. “I think Steve felt, and I agree, that the ‘Goodbye, Michael’ episode was his goodbye and he didn’t want to overshadow the ending that all the other characters deserved,” he said. People have taken that to mean he WILL be in the show, but he WON’T overshadow it, because that’s how people have decided to take it. TV Line report it will be a cameo performance, and any overshadowing will not occur, which is convenient really. Of course, An NBC spokesperson declined to comment, and Carell’s rep maintains that his presence will not be felt in The Office ever again. They didn’t say it quite so emphatically, but they said it. Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak are already confirmed to be returning for the final episode.

Iron Man 3

The big news in cinemas globally is the release of Iron Man 3, which doesn't open in the USA until next week. But audiences around the world are already watching Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow reprise their roles in the Marvel franchise, which will no doubt lead box office charts everywhere for a few weeks at least.

Meanwhile, we got our first glimpse of Iron Man's fellow Avenger Thor with the trailer for The Dark World, which opens late this summer. Chris Hemsworth is back as the Norse god, this time teaming up with his mischievous brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) instead of fighting him. Natalie Portman is also back for what looks like a seriously epic blockbuster.

First Look At 'The Way, Way Back' Starring Steve Carell [Trailer]

Steve Carell

In one of those vintage, coming of age over the holidays type stories, Liam James plays Duncan in The Way, Way Back, with Steve Carrell has his potential new step-dad and Toni Collette as his mum – an acting partnership that worked pretty well for Little Miss Sunshine you may recall.

Check out The Way, Way Back Trailer

It’s no surprise that The Way, Way Back comes from the same studios, Deep River Productions, who produced Little Miss Sunshine, as it looks like it’s going to exude the same quirky feel-good charm. Duncan’s step-dad takes him to his beach house for the summer where the adults look like they’re indulging in some kind of grown up spring break. Duncan meanwhile is taken under the wing of Sam Rockwell’s character Owen. Owen works at a water park and acts as a mentor as Duncan looks to boost his confidence with the opposite sex.

Duncan is a 14-year-old boy struggling to fit in anywhere and dealing with all the problems that most teenagers are forced to deal with at some stage. His mother Pam has a new boyfriend, Trent, who happens to be a jerk with a keen interest in humiliating Duncan at every opportunity. As the summer nears, the family embark on a vacation at Trent's beach house where he meets their new neighbour's daughter Susanna who, far from seeing him as a socially awkward and embarrassing individual, warms to Duncan immediately. He also meets the unprofessional and extroverted manager of the Water Wizz water park, Owen, who offers him a job and some excitement on his otherwise uninteresting vacation and subsequently helps him grow in confidence and self-belief.

Steve Carell Swatting Prank Actually Sees P Diddy's Home Swarmed By LAPD!

Steve Carell Sean Combs

Steve Carell had his home surrounded by heavily armed police and SWAT teams from the Los Angeles Police Police Department earlier this week, but not because he is actually a drug barron or was being held hostage, no instead the comic actor found himself as the latest victim in yet another swatting prank. Well, it wasn't actually him who was the but of the joke as initially though, it was actually music mogul and Carell's neighbour P Diddy who was the intended victim of the prank, but that didn't stop the LAPD from getting a little confused (not for the first time this year) and storming both homes.

Diddy’s swanky L.A. home was invaded by more than a dozen police cars and two helicopters following the prank call being placed to a local dispatcher and although it was initially believed that Carell was the intended victim, it turns out Diddy was the prankster's main target. Police later announced the reason behind their annexing of Carell's property, revealing that they simply had nowhere else to go after completely surrounding the Diddy estate and the reason they invaded Carell's home was because they allegedly wanted to wanted to secure the location.

Swatting has become a popular pursuit for pranksters of late and involves a person making a hoax phone call to police, telling them that armed gunmen have entered someone's home and often adding that shots have been fired. On December 10 last year (2012), police arrested a teenage boy who they claimed had pulled a similar swatting prank against actor Ashton Kutcher and singer Justin Bieber. Due to the ongoing popularity the prank has conjured up, police are taking the issue increasingly more seriously and have warned potential swatters that they will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law when caught.

Burt Wonderstone

The big global release this week is the comedy pastiche The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, starring Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi, Jim Carrey and Alan Arkin as Las Vegas musicians in a battle between old-school illusions and street-magic stunts. Warm and funny, it's also just as silly as you think it'll be.

In between performances as Macbeth on London's West End stage, James McAvoy has been out promoting his new film Welcome to the Punch, an unusually glossy cop thriller set in East London. The film opens this weekend in the UK. Speaking to Contactmusic, he talks about how making action movies is a breeze, and why he prefers to work in Britain if he has the chance. Until a new X-men movie comes up, that is.

Steve Carell - Video Interview

Video Interview with Steve Carell

Steve Carell discusses his experiences working on the set of his new comedy movie 'The Incredible Burt Wonderstone' which sees him play the title character, a magician, who drifts apart from his partner Anton Marvelton as their once prolific success dwindles as a younger, more hip trickster arrives in Las Vegas.

Carell talks about how he's always had his inner magician 'lurking underneath', his experiences working with legendary illusionist David Copperfield and what it's like reuniting with his 'Bruce Almighty' co-star Jim Carrey who plays his long-haired magic rival in the new movie.

Burt Wonderstone wanted to be a superstar magician ever since he was a young boy watching his idol Rance Holloway perform tricks on TV. Enlisting his best friend Anton Marvelton as his partner, the pair became stars beyond their wildest dreams wowing audiences in Las Vegas for the best part of 30 years. However, after a while being the biggest magic stars in America, ticket sales begin to drop and the pair find themselves drifting apart from each other. It doesn't help that a young, charismatic new street magician called Steve Gray has arrived on the scene becoming a massive hit among young magic fans. After Burt and Anton embark on a new stunt, attempting to stay suspended in a box with each other, they realise that their friendship is long forgotten and Anton moves abroad. Burt must meet with his hero Rance and reconnect with what made him love magic in the first place in order to reunite with his friend once more.

Incredible Burt Wonderstone Premiered At The Opening Of SXSW This Week

Jim Carrey Steve Carell Olivia Wilde James Gandolfini

One good thing to come out of SXSW this year (well, depending who you ask, of course), was The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. The Don Scardino-directed flick tells the story of a couple of childhood friends, whose friendship grows based on their shared love of magic, until they eventually grow up to become a world-famous magician duo. If that synopsis isn’t enough, the cast of Burt Wonderstone should certainly impress you – starring Steve Carell and Jim Carrey, the film also features names like Olivia Wilde, Steve Buscemi and James Gandolfini.

Burt Wonderstone premiered to a discerning crowd at the opening day of South By South West and the cast used the huge music, film and technology forum to have some fun. Jim Carrey decided to show up to the premiere in a red jacket and silver shoes in the style of his character. In light of the movie’s release, Carrey also commented on the strange relationship he’s had with magic: "I've always had this weird relationship with magic. I think it's fascinating and yet it annoys me because I can't figure it out." Well, let’s hope he can at least fake it convincingly.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone hits theatres on March 15. In the mean time, you can catch the film trailer below.

Kristen Wiig Joins The Anchorman 2 Cast!

Kristen Wiig Will Ferrell Steve Carell Christina Applegate

The anticipation for Anchorman 2 has just stepped up another notch with the news that Kristen Wiig has joined the Will Ferrell and the rest of the cast as a new co-star.

With the ensemble cast from the hugely successful first Anchorman assembled, Anchorman: The Legend Continues will only fail if it has a bad script surely, and the addition of Bridesmaids star Wiig, reported by CNN, can only be a good thing. Director and co-screenwriter Adam McKay revealed the news of Wiig’s joining on his Facebook page, with Christina Applegate expressing her joy that Wiig was joining on Twitter, writing "So excited Kristen Wiig has joined our cast for anchorman2. Going 2 b best movie ever made. Besides the best movies ever made."

The new Anchorman is scheduled to open on December 20, 2013 and it had to be said that optimism in the camp appears to be high, with many of the cast strongly believing they can equal the heights of the original film back in 2004. "I think it's such a great ensemble piece that I would hope that our roles are the same as they were the first time around," one of the co-stars Steve Carell said to CNN. "The storyline is going to be different, but I hope the people in it are exactly the same."

A Week In Movies: Argo Keeps On Coming, Spring Breakers Looks Unhinged And Carell, Buscemi And Carrey Appear In Incredible Burt Wonderstone Trailer

PGA's And SAG Awards Both Favour Affleck While Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens And Ashley Benson Spring Break And Lindsay Lohan's The Canyons Bombs Out

The Oscar race was thrown into a spin last weekend by two guilds, professional groups that make movies and vote for the Academy Awards. First, the Producers Guild of America (PGA) gave its Best Picture award to Ben Affleck's Argo, a surprise because Affleck isn't even nominated for a directing Oscar. Then the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) named Argo for Best Ensemble, which is considered their Best Picture prize. Films only rarely win the Best Picture Oscar if their director isn't nominated. But Affleck is nominated for a Directors Guild of America (DGA) award on Saturday, which will no doubt further muddy the waters leading to Bafta night February 10th and the Oscars two weeks later.

Meanwhile, Oscar contenders dominate the box office, with Les Miserables, Django Unchained and Zero Dark Thirty in the Top 10 both in America and Britain. In addition, Life of Pi and Lincoln are in the UK chart, while Silver Linings Playbook is holding firm in the US. These are the most money-making Best Picture nominees in years.

Sundance Sales: Fox Splashes $10 Million On Steve Carell's 'The Way, Way Back'

Steve Carell

There’ve been big sales all over the place at the Sundance Film Festival again this year, with Steve Carell among the names benefiting from the latest deal – said to be one of the most expensive in Sundance history. The past couple of days have been abuzz with news of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial effort Don’s Jon Addiction being bought for $4 million, whilst the Steve Coogan/Michael Winterbottom partnership has worked out again with the story of Soho Porn King Paul Raymond, ‘The Look Of Love’, also being snapped up.

However, this deal shades them all: The Way, Way Back, directed by Nat Flaxon and Jim Rash and starring Liam James and Sam Rockwell as well as Carell, has been snapped up for a whopping $10 million. The buyers are Fox Searchlight, with the deal supposedly among the biggest the event’s ever seen. The narrative follows James as a 14 year-old boy spending a miserable summer in a town in Massachusetts, as his mother  - played by Toni Collette – has started dating Carell’s character. He becomes friends with Rockwell’s character, however, who has a decrepit water park.

Among Fox Searchlights distributed titles, according to The Los Angeles Times, are The Descendants and Little Miss Sunshine - two films that The Way, Way Back would certainly be in good company with.

Hopes Crushed – Steve Carell Will Not Return To Final Season Of The Office

Steve Carell Ricky Gervais Catherine Tate

All hopes of Steve Carell returning to the US version of The Office may well just have been crushed.

During NBC’s segment at the Television Critics Association Tour on Sunday, the networks’ chairman pretty much crushed any speculation that Carell might be coming back, after leaving in series seven so that he could focus on his movie career. “I’m hopeful but I don’t think he will be back” said Robert Greenblatt, before adding “he left the way he wanted that character to leave.”

That character, of course, was Michael Scott, the US counterpart to Ricky Gervais’ David Brent, in the original UK series. Greenblatt explained that Carell doesn’t want to “tarnish the character’s final exit from season seven,” E! Online have reported. This may not be entirely the end of the road for Carell’s character though. Greenblatt still gave glimmers of hope for a cameo, at least. “There’s maybe a little Hail Mary pass on a cameo.” The series won’t be the same without him though, that’s for sure.

Steve Carrell, Jim Carrey And Alan Arkin's New Trailer For The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

Steve Carell Jim Carrey Alan Arkin Olivia Wilde James Gandolfini

Steve Carell is probably still funny to 14 year olds, and that's great. He's still got a market and he's still making plenty of movies, and plenty of money from them, so good on him. Once again however, his latest role looks abysmal. He's playing the eponymous magician of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.

Having been enamoured as a child by television magicians he, along with his best friend Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi), makes it his career. Making it to be Las Vegas stars, eventually their act slowly goes down the pan, facing fierce competition from a long haired, dip-dyed street magician named Steve Gray, played by Jim Carrey (recently said to be the planet's funniest person by Judd Appatow). As the latest trailer shows, their gradually competing acts are something of a parody of the likes of David Blaine. However, Burt Wonderstone manages to enlist the help of the man that inspired him in the first place: Rance Holloway, played by the brilliant Alan Arkin

Despite having an impressive cast (Olivia Wilde and James Gandolfini also appear), from initial views of the trailer, it looks pretty terrible. We might be eating our words come March 15, 2013, and we'll happily do so, but it looks unlikely. Take a look at the trailer to decide for yourself:

Fingers Crossed: Kristen Wiig In The Running For Anchorman 2 Role

Kristen Wiig Steve Carell Adam McKay Judd Apatow Paul Rudd Christina Applegate Guy Pearce

We’re praying this latest rumor from The Wrap has got some substance to it. According to the movie industry insiders, Kristen Wiig is a likely candidate to play the role of Steve Carell’s love interest in the Anchorman sequel, Anchorman: The Legend Continues, for Paramount Pictures. Currently, no cast members have been selected, beyond the core few that we already know and love.

The new Anchorman instalment is being directed by Adam McKay, with Judd Apatow on production duties – under the Apatow Productions banner. We reckon Wiig would make a perfect addition to the Anchorman cast – she’s already proven her comic chops with the hit movie Bridesmaids, and we sense that her deadpan acting style would make for some raucous ROFL moments if she were cast alongside Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Christina Applegate and Steve Carell in the sequel to the 2004 hit. Anchorman fetched around $85 million at the box office and we’d put our money on a sequel being even more successful.

Kristen Wiig is one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood right now, thanks to the success of Bridesmaids. She recently starred in Imogene, an indie film that featured at the Toronto International Film Festival. She also been busy filming The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Hateship Friendship, along with Guy Pearce

Actor Steve Carell (The Office; The 40 Year Old Virgin); Steve Buscemi (Monster's Inc; Reservoir Dogs) and Olivia Wilde (In Time; Cowboys & Aliens) film their new movie "Burt Wonderstone" on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada. Steve is unrecognisable with blond hair as he stands elevated above crew members. Olivia Wilde is also seen with blonde hair; she wears a sparkly looking jacket. The actors look to be filming a tense scene, as they both look harassed.

Burt Wonderstone also stars Jim Carrey. This isn't the first time Jim and Steve have appeared on the big screen together - they were co-stars in the 2003 hit Bruce Almighty

Video - Monday Night's Crazy, Stupid, Love World Premiere At The Ziegfeld Theatre In New York.

The stars came out for Monday night's Crazy, Stupid. Love premiere at the Ziegfeld theatre in New York.

As well as the films leading stars Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, some of the brightest lights from stage and screen were there including Hollywood 'it girl' of the moment, Mila Kunis, and other celebrities such as Carrie Underwood, Kelly Rowland, and Karolina Kurkova. The film is release on 29th July in the States, and 23rd September in the UK.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin Review

OK

In a welcome change from puerile and stinking-rotten Rob Schneider and David Spade movies, "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" is a ribald comedy that is genuinely laugh-out-loud funny, despite being custom-built around a scene-stealing second-banana who really belongs in small roles.

Deadpan "Daily Show" correspondent Steve Carell, who briefly but memorably upstaged Will Ferrell in "Anchorman" and Jim Carrey in "Bruce Almighty," stars as Andy Stitzer, a king-dork electronics store clerk rapidly approaching middle age and so bereft of social skills that he's never managed to get much past first base with a woman. When his co-workers realize this, watching him fumble to fit in while swapping sex stories during an after-hours poker game, they make it their mission to get the poor guy laid.

Co-written by Carell and director Judd Aptow (creator of TV's "Undeclared" and "Freaks and Geeks"), the plot is perfectly pitched to its star's talent for playing hapless, hopeless twits. Put Carell in a polo shirt, a pair of khakis and a K-Mart windbreaker, and he can garner hardy chuckles with little more than a perplexed stare from his deep-set buggy eyes. He dives headlong into this character, earning cheek-hurting laughs with painfully awkward moments (his pals convince him to get his chest waxed) and giving Andy such an authentic geekdom (his apartment is lined with collectable toys in their original packaging) that the movie's plot hardly feels like a gimmick at all.
