Steve Carell lent his services at a busy pizza restaurant after a member of staff didn't turn up for work.

The 'Seeking a Friend for the End of the World' star arrived to pick up a pie at his favourite North Hollywood pizzeria when he saw the owner frantically running around due to his staffing issue, so the 49-year-old actor jumped behind the counter to spontaneously help out.

Steve spent 45 minutes at the restaurant wearing an apron and answering the phone, as well as taking orders from hungry customers.

Following his short stint as a stand-in waiter, he was given a free meal as a reward for his kind gesture.

The pizzeria owner stated: ''Take the pizza. It costs me less than having to pay you.''

It's not the first time Steve has made it known that he loves pizza after the 'Crazy, Stupid, Love' star recently admitted one of the last things he would do if the world was about to end would be to eat a ''very good pizza''.

He previously said: ''My thoughts gravitated toward food, like a very good pizza.

''We've had deep-dish delivered from Giordano's, Gino's East, and Lou Malnati's in Chicago. You can just call and have it shipped to you on dry ice.''
