Albums of note… In 2013, the apparent year of the comeback, Depeche Mode made a mini-one of their own, with their first album in four years Delta Machine. Dave Gahan’s still at the vocal helm and the group still enjoy looking at the darker side of pop. Something they’re still doing with great success according to our writer Dom Gourlay, who surmised “'Delta Machine' is a worthy comeback that while not quite hitting the peaks conquered so magnificently by 'Black Celebration', 'Violator' and 'Songs Of Faith And Devotion' back in the day, still sits comfortably in the upper quartile of Depeche Mode's finest releases to date.”

Another gaining the love of Contactmusic this week is Josh Kumra who released his debut LP Good Things Come To Those Don’t Wait. Give he’s only about 20/21 himself, it seems like he’s taken the title of his album to heart, and this Sony release looks set to make him a star early on in his career. Our man Jim Pusey reckoned “At its heart, Good Things Come To Those Who Don't Wait is a solid singer songwriter effort. It elevates itself beyond that by successfully dabbling in a number of musical styles along the way, while ensuring that Josh doesn't ever sound out of his depth. Certainly one of his strengths is his voice, and he gives himself ample opportunity to showcase that here too.”

Story Books Reveal New Video Ahead Of Debut EP (Video)

Story Books

A slice of panoramic anthemic pop here from Kent five-piece Story Books, with the group unveiling the lead track 'Simple Kids' from their forthcoming debut EP Too Much A Hunter, out on Communion Records at the end of the month, April 29, 2013

Currrently out on tour in support of King Charles around the UK, Story Books will cap their spring with a trio performances at urban festival Dot To Dot, which takes place in Manchester, Bristol and Nottingham on May 24th, 25th and 26th respectively as well as a slot at Brighton's music industry convention The Great Escape on 'Simple Kids' is a perfectly inoffensive sounding piece of balladry, with a rather formulaic narrative taking place in the video, of a couple going from boom to bust over the course of the song's widescreen three minutes and forty six seconds. Vocalist Kristofer Harris is most likely to find that his voice is going to get compared to Alt-J's Joe Newman, which will be no bad thing at all given that group's huge success. Indeed, Story Books have already been receiving a fair bit of praise themselves, with both Xfm and BBC Radio 1 picking up on their early tunes.

Story Books - Simple Kids

In the run up to the release of their debut EP 'Too Much A Hunter' out April 29th 2013 on Communion records, Kent quintet Story Books release a touching video for the EP's open track 'Simple Kids'.

Like their namesake, it is a kind of story-telling video touching on life as young students going through the experimentations of drugs and alcohol and, most importantly, the thrills and heartbreak of young love. It's a dreamy ballad with slow, but heavy drums, tender vocals and a simple but highly infectious melody that makes for truly easy listening. The new EP makes for an exceptional debut, self-produced by Story Books in Sittingbourne with the help of Tony Doogan. With their early demos receivable a remarkable amount of praise from the likes of XFM and BBC Radio 1, it's no wonder they have since had several sold out London shows and a support slot for the NME award nominated Bloc Party.

Story Books; who are vocalist Kristofer Harris, drummer Robert Wilks, bassist Joseph Whitnell, keyboardist Andrew Parry and guitarist Jack Tarrant; are set for a major tour this Spring across the UK, first as the main support for King Charles and then as headliners at several shows including the Dot to Dot Festival at Manchester, Bristol and Nottingham as well as Brighton's Great Escape Festival.
