'Strictly Come Dancing' Reveals Len Goodman's Successor As Head Judge

Strictly Come Dancing

After months of speculation, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ has at least revealed who is to replace Len Goodman as the panel’s head judge – and they’ve picked from the world of dance rather than from the world of celebrity.

Shirley Ballas, a former champion ballroom dancer who is nicknamed ‘The Queen of Latin’, is not exactly a household name, but it is she who is to step in when ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ returns later this year. A respected figure in the dance industry as a coach and as a judge, Ballas retired from dancing competitively in 1996.

The job offers are coming in for the defeated ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ finalist Danny Mac, as it has been revealed that the actor will be starring in a new musical theatre adaptation of Sleepless In Seattle alongside his fiancée Carley Stenson.

28 year old Danny is best known for his role as Mark ‘Dodger’ Savage in Channel 4 soap ‘Hollyoaks’, but he’ll be taking up the role of Sam in ‘Sleepless the Musical’ when it opens at the Theatre Royal Plymouth on April 1st 2017, alongside his partner Carley as she plays Annie.

The production will then move to week-long stints at Salford and Dublin prior to a run in the West End in late May.

Len Goodman Says Will Young Didn't Quit 'Strictly' Over "Turn Up Shut Up" Remark

Len Goodman Will Young Strictly Come Dancing

Len Goodman has said he doesn't believe his ‘turn up, shut up’ comment to Will Young was the reason the singer quit ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

Young pulled out of the BBC competition in the week following Goodman’s comment, which came after the singer had answered back to the judge when he criticised his Bollywood routine for not including enough salsa.

Sir Bruce Forsyth Pulls Out Of 'Strictly' Christmas Special

Bruce Forsyth Claudia Winkleman Tess Daly Strictly Come Dancing

Sir Bruce Forsyth has been forced to cancel his scheduled appearance on the Christmas special of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ because of concerns over his health.

The veteran presenter, 87, underwent an operation on an abdominal aortic aneurysm in mid-November, but his doctors have decided that the filming, due to start to next week, will come too soon for Forsyth “to have made a full recovery”.

The BBC released a statement on Thursday (December 3rd) saying that “Due to the long studio hours, he is unable to host the show, but will still play a part in the production.” The episode itself will be broadcast on Christmas Day on BBC One, and regular host Claudia Winkleman will be taking over Forsyth’s presenting duties for the short special episode.

'Strictly Come Dancing' Star's Husband Slams Judge Craig Revel Horwood In Scathing Rant

Craig Revel Horwood Ola Jordan Strictly Come Dancing

Strictly Come Dancing’ star Ola Jordan’s husband James has launched a stinging attack on Craig Revel Horwood, one of the show’s judges, calling him “vile” and accusing him of “double standards” after he criticised his wife.

Previously, Revel Horwood had taken a few jibes at Ola Jordan’s photoshoot for her calendar, saying that the images of her “pouring milk all over herself with her legs spread” weren’t appropriate for a family show such as ‘Strictly’.

But James, a professional dancer and former resident dancer on ‘Strictly’ until 2013, hit back at 50 year old Revel Horwood’s double standards on the basis that he’s releasing a new autobiography in time for Christmas with the title ‘All Balls and Glitter: My Life’.

BBC Accuses ITV Of Banning 'Strictly Come Dancing' Stars From Their Chat Shows

Strictly Come Dancing The X Factor

More shots have been fired in the Saturday night ratings war, with the BBC accusing ITV of ‘blacklisting’ ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ from appearing on their chat shows in an attempt to bolster the ratings of ‘The X Factor’ through denial of exposure.

Celebrities taking part in the dance competition have allegedly been turned down and denied appearances on the likes of ‘Good Morning Britain’, ‘Lorraine’ and ‘Loose Women’ in order to stop them from promoting ‘The X Factor’s rival.

Graham Norton Lays Into 'The X Factor', Claiming That It's Lost "Credibility"

Graham Norton The X Factor Strictly Come Dancing

Graham Norton has savaged ‘The X Factor’ in a new interview, claiming that he’s long since stopped watching the show because “it’s lost its credibility”.

“I haven’t watched ‘X Factor’ the past few years because it just seems so long now – it’s endless,” he said in conversation with the Radio Times. “Also, the people aren’t very good, so to all the judges’ comments of ‘I’d buy your album tomorrow’ you think, ‘You’re never having an album’. You wouldn’t throw 50p at them if they were busking in the tube. I think it’s lost its credibility.”

Ouch. Well, perhaps he should tune in again after all this time, as he seemed to have glowing praise for Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw – who has just become one of the judges on the ITV show.

'Strictly Come Dancing' Allegedly Denies Gay Celebrity A Same-Sex Dance Partner

Strictly Come Dancing

A regular expert on the BBC quiz show ‘Eggheads’ has claimed that he was rejected from consideration for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ because he asked for a dance partner of the same sex.

CJ de Mooi, who is gay, says that he was overlooked in favour of BBC Radio 2 presenter Jeremy Vine for inclusion on the 2015 edition of ‘Strictly’ because of his request. He has also slammed the corporation for the reason it gave for turning it down, which he says amounted to: “’Strictly’ is a family show and we have chosen the traditional format of mixed-sex couples.”

ITV Suggests BBC Deliberately Schedules 'Strictly Come Dancing' To Clash With 'The X Factor'

Strictly Come Dancing The X Factor

Director of television at ITV Peter Fincham has suggested that the BBC has been playing a “game” for years whereby it deliberately schedules its dancing competition ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ against ‘The X Factor’ on Saturday nights in a battle of the ratings.

‘The X Factor’ returns this weekend on Saturday August 29th with its new judging line-up featuring Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora, and when ‘Strictly’ kicks off the following weekend (September 6th) the two shows will overlap by 20 minutes.

If trends continue from recent years, where ‘Strictly’ has edged ahead of its ITV rival in the ratings, then ‘The X Factor’ can expect its viewing figures to take a noticeable hit at the end of each weekly programme. “This really matters to us, because we are a commercial business,” Fincham pointed out.

Despite Cowell's Return, 'Strictly' Topples X-Factor In Sunday Ratings

Simon Cowell Cheryl Cole Strictly Come Dancing

It is a battle that could have perhaps been avoided had either the BBC or ITV backed down and rescheduled, but Strictly Come Dancing and The X-Factor went head-to-head for the first time this year on Sunday, with the dancing reality show winning out. ITV will have hoped the return of Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell would have been enough to pip its rival - airing its first season without Bruce Forsyth - though it wasn't to be.

Simon CowellThe return of Simon Cowell was not enough for The X-Factor to beat Strictly

Strictly returned with 8.4 million viewers on Sunday - a 33.7% share of the audience between 8pm and 9.15pm. The X-Factor had to settle for second place, with 7.6 million viewers and a 27.9% share between 8pm and 9.05pm.

BBC Breakfast presenter Reid had been the bookie's favourite to take home the award, but after a valiant display from Clancy in the final episode of the season, the viewers at home voted Mrs Peter Crouch to be the Dancing Queen, also preventing Reid from being the third BBC presenter to win the contest. Clancy later called Strictly "the most perfect experience I've had" and her professional partner Skorjanec, who made his debut on the series this season, said: "I can't believe this; it's just mad."
