Unless Suge Knight wants to pay $10 million, he’s not getting out of prison anytime soon. The rap mogul, who stands accused of murder, was in court on Friday (17th July) in order to request his bail be reduced from $10 million. The Los Angeles judge declined Knight’s request and he’s headed straight back into jail to await his trial.

50-year-old Knight is accused of running over two men in a fast-food restaurant car park in Compton. The incident occurred on January 29th 2015 when Knight became involved in a confrontation with Cle “Bone” Sloan. He ran over both Sloan and another man, Terry Carter. Sloan was severely injured and Carter died as a result of his injuries.

Knight handed himself in the next day and was arrested on multiple charges, including murder. Knight has previously pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and his lawyer has previously claimed he was acting in self-defence. His lawyer, Thomas A. Mesereau Jr., has described the criminal charges brought against his client as “an outrage”.

As the L.A. Times reports, the prosecutors originally wanted Knight’s bail to be set at $25 million but $10 million was agreed upon.

Knight has a history of alleged violence including extorting money from up-and-coming rappers wanting to break into the rap industry in California, money laundering and kidnapping a man at gunpoint in 2014.

In addition to lowering the bail, Mesereau also requested Knight be permitted to receive private medical care. Knight has collapsed a number of times in hearings and was one carried in to court on a stretcher. The judge also denied this request.
