The pair have been charged after allegedly stealing a photographer’s camera in Beverly Hills last month. According to Beverly Hills police, on September 5th Knight and Williams left a recording studio and encountered a waiting photographer, whereupon they reportedly chased her down an alley and forcibly took her camera, leaving the woman with minor injuries. Investigations are still ongoing, but the police believe there’s enough of a case to begin prosecution. Both men are no strangers to criminal controversy.

Micah ‘Katt’ Williams, 43, was arrested at a court house in Inglewood where he was due to face charges in connection with a separate incident in which he allegedly pepper-sprayed a man and tried to run him over with his car.

Marion ‘Suge’ Knight, 49, has a number of previous infractions, including one for assault with a deadly weapon. As a result of this, he could potentially face a sentence of thirty years to life in state prison if he is found guilty. Williams could face up to seven years.

Knight, 49, was the co-founder of legendary rap imprint Death Row Records in Los Angeles, whose artists rose to prominence in the 1990s and included 2Pac, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Outlawz and Tha Dogg Pound. He now co-owns Black Kapital records.

Controversy has always surrounded him: in 1996, Knight was sent to prison for a probation violation and released in 2001. Two years later, he was sent back for violating that parole for striking a parking lot attendant. Famously, he also allegedly dangled former rap star Vanilla Ice off a balcony by his ankles over a royalties dispute, although that claim was never proven.
