Why Suge Knight Will Remain in Prison for At Least Six Weeks

Suge Knight will stay behind bars and could face new charges.
Suge Knight, the co-founder of Death Row Records who is charged with murdering a man in a Compton parking lot, will remain behind bars for the next six weeks while his lawyers work on a defense. Knight was charged with murder, attempted murder and hit-and-run after striking two men with his truck on January 29.

On Monday, the rapper appeared in court for a hearing that was intended to address whether he should be freed on bail, though Deputy District Attorney Cynthia Barnes said prosecutors and Knight's attorneys were preparing for a hearing that could include a "very large stack of uncharged crimes." She did not elaborate on the new evidence though it is expected that Suge Knight's trial could be even bigger than we first assumed.

Prosecutors contend that Knight purposely ran down Terry Carter, 55, with a 3-ton truck in the parking lot of a Compton burger stand. The music mogul's lawyer insists that he was trying to flee the scene after being viciously attacked. A dispute had begun on the set of the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton.
During one of his earlier court hearings, Knight appeared to suffer a panic attack and was rushed to a local hospital. He spent much of the latest court hearing sat quietly with his head cocked to one side.

Knight, who has served stretches in prison before, was a key player in the gangster rap scene of the 1990s and once had Dr Dre, Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg on his books. He eventually lost control of Death Row Records and was forced into bankruptcy.
