Do Sly Stallone and Robert De Niro's new comedy - with a distinct Christmas feel - could do great at the box-office.
It's one of those silly hypothetical pop culture questions isn't it? Who'd win in a fight between Rocky and Jake LaMotta? Sylvester Stallone's Philadelphia brawler, or Robert De Niro's swashbuckling middleweight? The Italian Stallion or The Bronx Bull? Well, we get to find out. Sort of.
Sylvester Stallone [L], Alan Arkin, Kevin Hart and Robert De Niro [R] In 'Grudge Match'
Peter Segal's new movie Grudge Match follows the story of Henry 'Razor' Sharp and Billy 'The Kid' McDonnen, two former boxers who were at the top of their profession. Both Pittsburgh residents, Henry and Bill met in the ring on a number of occasions and had beaten each other an equal amount of times. In other words, everyone's ready for a decider.
The problem is, its thirty years since the men retired and nobody really knows what's going to happen when both men step in the ring. One thing's for sure, there's no love lost between the two veterans and when a face-to-face meeting escalates into a full on brawl, boxing promoter Dante Slate Jr smells cold hard cash and steps up the publicity for the fight.
With a script from Tim Kelleher (Independence Day & Inception), Grudge Match appears to be a relatively formulaic comedy, though it's got a distinct Christmas feel about it - which is handy, given it's released on December 25, 2014.
Watch the Grudge Match trailer:
Kevin Hart, as the boxing promoter, steals the trailer with a couple of funny quips, particularly when bickering with Stallone's trailer, played by Alan Arkin. "I choose to believe that you just called me Webster because of my dictionary style vocabulary and not because of my height and race," says Hart
"Nope it's because your short and black," comes the deadpan reply.
"What was Jesus like? I'm curious, was he cool?" asks Slate Jr.
