We can’t pretend we’re very surprised, but it seems Tara Reid and Ian Ziering will be back for more shark filled mayhem, as Sharknado 3 now has its two main stars onboard. Ziering will be reprising his role as former surfer turned shark hunter Finn Shepard, while Reid will be back as his ex-wife April Wexler.

Reid excitedly tweeted the news on Thursday night, telling her followers 'OK guys I have a great announcement get ready its official I just signed on to #Sharknado3 Woo hoo!!!!! (sic).’ The 39-year-old former American Pie star later told her followers, ‘I'm so happy you guys are excited about #Sharknado3 here we go again!’ Adding, ‘I love you guys! I have the best fans in the world!’

The made for TV movie first hit our screens in 2013 on Syfy and became an instant hit thanks to social media. Set in Los Angeles, it concerned a freak hurricane which caused sharks to invade the city.

A year later, a sequel was set in New York and featured cameos from Kelly Osbourne, Vivica A. Fox, Mark McGrath, Judah Friedlander, Billy Ray Cyrus, Andy Dick, Matt Lauer, and Judd Hirsch. The second instalment proved another big hit for the SyFy network, pulling in 3.9 million viewers.

The third instalment is set to place along the East Coast from Washington, D.C. to Florida and will see the sharks ‘cause mass destruction in the nation’s capital then roar down the Eastern Seaboard.’

There’s no word yet on what creative name Sharknado 3 will get, as there is already a contest in place to name the film. Last year an online contest lead to the ingenious name, Sharknado 2: The Second One.

But don’t expect the makers of Sharknado to settle for a trilogy of films. Speaking to CBS News last year, star Ian Ziering said, "I was talking to Dave Howe, president of Syfy, and he was like, 'This could be a summer event for us. This could be 4, 5, 6 movies.' -- I'm just enjoying what's happening right now. It's really just amazing."

Expect Sharknado 3 to come our way this July on Syfy.
