It's been revealed that the fourth instalment of the Sharknado franchise will pay homage to Star Wars with its title, Sharknado: The 4th Awakens. Syfy have also just announced that the TV movie will premiere on Sunday, July 31 at 8 p.m. on the cable network.

Tara ReidTara Reid will be back for Sharknado 4.

The latest film in the franchise will be set five years after the East Coast was torn apart in last summer’s Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No. Ian Ziering will return as Fin, who has spent the past five years living happily shark free. But now the sharks and tornados are back and turning up in unexpected places.

David Hasselhoff and Ryan Newman who debuted in Sharknado 3, will also be back, along with new cast additions, Gary Busey, Cheryl Tiegs, Tommy Davidson, Imani Hakim, Cody Linley and Masiela Lusha.

Also returning is Tara Reid as April Wexler, who's character has been the subject of a social media campaign were fans have been asked to vote to determine her fate, using hashtags #AprilLives or #AprilDies.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the campaign last year, Chris Regina, senior vice president of program strategy at Syfy said: ”We needed to do something that was going to keep the audience in jeopardy and want to come back for another Sharknado.”

"That led to the idea that I came up with in having the audience vote. Sharknado, more than anything on television, is a social interaction with the viewers, so we wanted to make it interactive. I'm hoping that we're going to break the Internet this time with the 'April lives, April dies' at the end."

"I think it's going to be precedent-setting. I can't think of an instance where another network has done something of that nature at the end of an event. Hopefully it's a TV first,” Regina added.
