The cable network has now unveiled three more cast members, which includes Rachel McAdams as the female lead, as well as English actress Kelly Reilly and Taylor Kitsch in supporting roles. They will join the already announced leading men, Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn.

For quite some time there have been rumours following Taylor Kitsch about a possible role in the forthcoming second season of HBO's hit 'True Detective,' and recently the 33 year-old actor finally confirmed that this is true.

HBO still hasn't made the official casting announcement, but Kitsch first admitted he will be starring in the next season of the crime series, which will consist of eight episodes, while speaking to AdWeek, revealing he spent the last year waiting for the call up.

Big news, True Detective fans! The latest cast announcement from HBO’s runaway hit is that Colin Farrell will join the lineup starting next season. Farrell made the announcement himself, saying he was “so excited” about the role in an exclusive for Sunday World, an Irish newspaper.

For the second season, Farrell will find himself in the midst of a whole new plot alongside an entirely different cast. With the conclusion of the plot from season one, showrunner Nick Pizzolotto has crafted an entirely new story for True Detective’s next outing. Rumors have been flying around about the show’s possible new stars, but Farrell is the first confirmed actor to join the show.

With one darkly comic Irish film already receiving rave reviews, Brendan Gleeson is starring in a lightly comic Canadian one, which, by the looks of the trailer, will have exactly the same effect. Taylor Kitsch also stars in ‘The Grand Seduction’, which has a brand new trailer below.

Lone Survivor is director Peter Berg's attempt at turning former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell's harrowing tale of survival inside enemy territory into a major motion picture, one that initially looked as though it had a very serious claim for Oscar recognition come March. With the film due for a wide release at the end of January, there were hopes that the new Hurt Locker or Argo had arrived, but in the first round of reviews critics have't been left as blown away as initially hoped.

Starring Mark Wahlberg alongside Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch and Ben Foster, the film recalls the botched 2005 covert mission to neutralised an area in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan that had fallen under the rule of a high-ranking Taliban official. Adapted from the real, best-selling account from Luttrell, played by Wahlberg in the film, the film has so far split movie critics between loving and loathing the it and ultimately its once clear-looking chances of potential Oscar recognition are looking less and less likely.

Things always go quiet in the film industry over the holidays as everyone takes one last break before the full onslaught of awards season campaigning. Nominations for both Oscars and Baftas come in the next two weeks, and there's also action for the influential writers, directors, producers and actors guilds. 

Awards-worthy movies expanding into cinemas this weekend include Mark Wahlberg's Lone Survivor, Spike Jonze's Her, the biopic Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and the Cambodia documentary The Missing Picture. Lone Survivor, starring Taylor Kitsch and Mark Wahlberg, tells the story of Medal of Honor recipient Lt. Michael Murphy, who in 2005 led a four-man Navy SEAL team on a surveillance mission in a remote mountainous region in Afghanistan’s Kunar Province. Their mission, code-named Operation Red Wings, was compromised when three unarmed goat herders, including a young teen, stumbled on their location. Murphy and his fellow SEALS - Matthew (Axe) Axelson (Ben Foster) and Danny Dietz (Emile Hirsch) had to choose between killing the innocent civilians or letting them go and possibly compromising the mission. Choosing the latter meant that the team was soon discovered and three of the four were killed by a much larger enemy force.

Kitsch faced a challenge with the role of Lt. Michael Murphy.

Both Kitsch and Wahlberg have expressed in interviews their commitment to keeping the film as honest and close to the experiences of real servicemen and women as possible. Even so, Kitsch was reportedly extremely nervous when he had to face his most important critic – Michael Murphy’s father, Daniel. Since working on Lone Survivor, Kitsch has stayed close to the Murphys, hosting a special screening for family and friends two weeks ago at the Regal Cinemas Ronkonkoma Stadium 9, then hoisting beers and trading stories afterward with the real “Murph’s” childhood friends.

While all the talk so far has centered on 12 Years a Slave, Gravity and Captain Phillips, a new and very serious contender for Best Picture at the Oscars has emerged in the form of Peter Berg's Lone Survivor. Based on the war memoir by ex-Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, the movie starring Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch and Emile Hirsch is an intense visualization of a botched SEALs raid in Afghanistan.

Berg reportedly underwent SEALs initiation in preparation for the film and - according to the Hollywood Reporter's review- the rigorous training on display is "infectious" early in the film. These guys are the most physically fit, best armed guys in the army with ultra-survival skills. They do let each other down.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, one of the most successfully grossing films of last year, heads up the Razzie Awards shortlist for the award no one wants to win – Worst Picture. Whilst the Twilight series has made big name stars out of the likes of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Dakota Fanning, its run of films has consistently been panned by ever more desperate critics, eager to see it fail.

If reviewers haven’t had much luck derailing Twilight’s momentum, though, then they certainly did a good job of blunting the momentum of the others going up against it for this year’s Razzie. The BBC reports that high-profile failures Battleship - a film based on the board game (they probably could’ve predicted that before even going to pre-production) – and Eddie Murphy’s disastrous turn in A Thousand Words are among the contenders, with the Adam Sandler-starring That’s My Boy and sickly kids film The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure making up the numbers. It’s fair to say that all these movies took quite the tongue-lashing. Here are some choice quotes from the critics:

The star of 2012's 'Battleship', Taylor Kitsch, has come forward to explain the sort of woman he would like to date; supposedly, an ''outdoorsy'' one. Despite supposedly not having a particular type, Kitsch has stated that it is important for him to be with someone who shares his enjoyment for being outside and practicing outdoor activities.

The personal trainer-turned-actor explained: ''I'm a very active guy. I've got a couple of motorbikes, so I love going on long rides in the country, being on a boat, going hiking and all of that kind of stuff. So she's got to be active and outdoorsy.'' Kitsch has also let it be known that he is turned off by women who spend too long on their appearance, and prefers a much more natural look.
