Taylor Swift fans can't believe their luck this week as they are gifted with the early Christmas present that is yet another surprise album from their idol. Evermore follows just five months after Folklore; the result of a fruitful creative experience that just never seemed to end for Swift and her team. On the whole, lockdown has been quite the musical success for this pop star.
Lead single Willow opens the album with a dose of cool, smooth rock with twinkling synths and the catchiest chorus on the record. Following that is the slower piano ballad of Champagne Problems. There's something about Taylor Swift that makes her so good at melancholy minor drops; she doesn't need to over-produce when her music is so melodically evocative.
On the other hand, she relies on this a little too often on Evermore so we do end up with a few filler tracks. Tolerate It doesn't particularly stand out, nor does the synth-led pop ballad that is Marjorie, or the country-tinged Ivy and Cowboy Like Me. 'Tis The Damn Season is another acoustic track which we hoped would be a little festive, but, alas, there's nothing especially Christmassy about it which we can't help but feel disappointed about.

It's Fibonacci Day so we've come up with a numerically based playlist for this legendary mathematical sequencer.
As it's Fibonacci Day we thought we'd engage the left side of our brains to come up with a sequence of numerically based tunes that hopefully won't divide opinion. Mathematics, rather like music itself, is generally regarded as an international language of it's own so what better way, in these unprecedented times(!), than to put together an eclectic mix of number themed bangers?
Ariana Grande - 34+35. Ariana's latest single release from her new album, Positions, brings us bang up to date. The saucy, NSFW, lyrically explicit tune, is not shy in coming forward. Ariana's sweet, high, vocal still seems far too innocent to be delivering up such suggestions but hey, she's now the ripe old age of twenty seven so can speak her mind whenever she pleases.
Doja Cat isn't the only one who shocked the world with a new image.
It seems we're not the only ones whose jaws dropped when we saw Doja Cat crawl out of a television screen The Ring style with a ripped dress, dark make-up and lank hair at the 2020 MTV European Music Awards, only to perform a hard rock rendition of her song Say So. Apart from the fact that the song, and indeed Doja Cat herself, is the most pop thing ever, we just weren't expecting such an alternative side to the singer - and we certainly weren't expecting to love it so much.

Not even the best casino bonus would have had us bet on a transformation like this. Though we ought to stop being so shocked when this happens by now; after all, she's not the only pop sweetheart to have made a controversial transformation in recent history. Here are just a few women in music who furthered their success by trading in their innocence...

The young artist urges fans to vote like their lives depend on it.
With the 2020 US presidential election drawing ever closer, the politically minded celebrities of the day have been more and more eager to use their platform to urge fans to vote - and many of them are equipped with a warning about current president Donald Trump. The latest is Billie Eilish, who performed at the Democratic National Convention this week.

What's new in the music world this week?
The coronavirus seems to be affecting every area of our lives including music at the moment, so we've decided to give it its own section in our Weekly Music Highlights. Along with the Nashville tornado disaster and Riz Ahmed's Brexit truths, we hope music will be a way to bring us together in these tough times.
The home of country music, Nashville, Tennessee, was struck by four tornadoes on Tuesday (March 3rd) killing 25 people and destroying numerous buildings and homes. Today a benefit gig under the name 'To Nashville, With Love' will take place at the Marathon Music Works, with acts such as Soccer Mommy, Sheryl Crow, Brandi Carlile, Dan Auerbach and more set to perform. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift has donated $1million to a relief fund and expressed her own devastation over the damage of the city she calls home, and a number of guitar companies such as Gibson, Heritage and Harmony are also offering their support to any musicians who may have lost equipment in the disaster with new replacement schemes.
Who needs a lover anyway?
While couples everywhere are enjoying the most romantic day of the year, single people are rolling their eyes and either feeling sorry for themselves or counting their blessings - especially if they've come out the other side of a bad break-up. Here's the playlist you need if you are feeling seriously off Valentine's Day this year.

TheThe songs we've had on repeat all year.songs we've had on repeat all year.
This year has marked quite an explosive end to a decade in terms of music, as we appear to be looking at a future of young musicians doing exactly what they want, how they want, while many long-established artists have refused to compromise their sound to stay relevent. The result is some seriously unapologetic and infectious tunes that will stay on our playlists for a long time to come.
1. Bad Guy - Billie Eilish
She's released without doubt our favourite album of the year with 'When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go?' at the age of just 17, and it's almost impossible to pick any one single to talk about here. 'Bad Guy' however is an example of how pop doesn't have to be the stereotypical sound you're used to hearing, because Billie Eilish has seriously changed the way we think about chart music.

Your 2019 Christmas playlist has arrived.
Every year a handful of new festive tunes flood the airwaves, and some are better than others. This year has been no different, and while we'll always have our favourite Christmas standards like 'Fairytale of New York' and 'Do They Know It's Christmas?', these new songs have rather put a smile on our faces...
Wandering Star - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds
Definitely one of those anthems that gets a place in our all-time favourite Christmas songs, Noel Gallagher unveiled 'Wandering Star' ahead of the release of his forthcoming EP 'Blue Moon Rising', which is set for release in March 2020. The video for the track stars This Is England actor Stephen Graham as an unlikely Santa.

Most anticipated albums of the month.
So far August is looking a lot better for music than July has been, and there really is a lot to look forward to whether you're a pop junkie or a die hard rocker. Taylor Swift, Sleater-Kinney and Tool are among some of the most eagerly anticipated of the month. Here are seven of the most exciting.
Mabel - High Expectations
This week we note the release of 23-year-old pop princess Mabel's debut album High Expectations - and, as mainstream female soloists go, there certainly have been high expectations for this one after the Platinum-certified single Don't Call Me Up. The question is: Does it live up to them?
Enjoy the sun with the perfect playlist.
The days are longer and the weather is warmer, we love a good British summer. It's a time for celebration, and to us a celebration isn't a celebration without the perfect playlist. We've amalgamated our favourite songs of the year for our perfect soundtrack to this year's warmer months.
Hot Chip - Melody of Love

The week's music news rounded up, including Queen breaking a streaming record, Taylor Swift using facial recognition tech, and Kanye reaching out to Bob Dylan.
KANYE AND BOB DYLAN COLLABORATION?
In what must be the most unlikely prospective musical alliance in pop history, Kanye West has reached out to none other than legendary songwriter Bob Dylan to ask for a collaboration.
Finding time in his schedule between posting pictures of trees and reigniting his on/off feud with Drake, Kanye took to Twitter to ask Dylan to work together on something unspecified.
The gig at the Rose Bowl back in May saw software being used to weed out Swift's legions of stalkers.
Taylor Swift’s concert at the Rose Bowl in California earlier this year was monitored by a facial recognition system, designed to filter out and bar entry to her many stalkers, it has been revealed.
According to Rolling Stone, which spoke to a concert security expert who worked with the system for the gig back in May, the facial recognition software was built into a kiosk that was displaying recorded highlights of Swift’s rehearsals.
Attendees who looked at the kiosk were secretly scanned by the software, with the data being relayed to a centre in Nashville, Tennessee that matched the hundreds of images with a database of known stalkers that ranges into the hundreds.

That bizarre rumour from last summer that Swift travels IN A SUITCASE to avoid the press might have been given some credence.
Yes, if you cast your mind back to the summer of 2017, there was a faintly ridiculous rumour put about after Splash magazine shared a photograph of bodyguards carrying suitcases from Swift’s New York home, with the caption:
“Taylor Swift has been reportedly being transported in a huge suitcase from her Tribeca apartment into her truck. A fleet of cars including two large Cadillacs and three SUVs arrive at Tailor Swift's apartment in Tribeca to move a large suitcase from apartment to truck. Almost a dozen of Taylor Swift security guards were present to move this package carefully as Taylor Swift remains to be unseen for a long time.”

The boyfriend of the superstar hitmaker has said her speaking up about politics is 'important'
Taylor Swift and her boyfriends have, in the past, been in the news for hook-ups, break-ups, lyrics and awkward t-shirts but now her current British beau, Joe Alwyn, has been in the news in praise of his superstar partner's revealation she will be voting for her Democrat senator.

Swift spoke out again on politics at the AMAs, encouraging her fans to vote in November's mid-terms.
Taylor Swift continued to exercise her new-found political outspokenness by urging Americans to vote in the upcoming mid-term elections, as she broke records at the American Music Awards last night.
Swift, receiving the award for artist of the year at Wednesday night’s awards ceremony (October 9th), used her platform to exhort viewers and her fans to register to take part to vote in the 2018 mid-term American elections, coming up in less than a month.
“Thank you so much for this. And I just wanted to make a mention of the fact that this award, and every single award given out tonight, were voted on by the people. And you know what else is voted on by the people? The midterm elections on 6th November. Get out and vote – I love you guys.”
She appears to have encourage thousands to register to vote in the midterm elections.
Those who thought that it wasn't important celebrities got involved in politics are being proven wrong now that Taylor Swift has opened up about her own values. It seems her pro-Democrat statement recently has caused a spike in voting registrations in her home state of Tennessee as well as nationwide.

Swift and Sheeran went out hiking together this week, with Taylor capturing their adorable friendship on Instagram.
In the clip posted on Wednesday (September 12th), Swift could be seen giggling as she filmed her best friend Ed puffing out of breath behind her while they were out hiking outside Taylor’s home city of Nashville.
“You okay, bro?” she eventually teases Sheeran, which resulted in the worn-out English singer flipping the bird at the camera, leaving Swift laughing.
