Taylor Swift broke with Saturday Night Live convention this weekend by performing just one song, a ten minute version of 'All Too Well'. The extended cut of 'All Too Well' is a track that's included on her recently released, re-recorded album, 'Red (Taylor's Version)'.
SNL's usual format dictates that artists perform two tracks, one before the Weekend Update, and one later on, but Taylor eschewed tradition in favour of performing "one song that is the length of three songs." Swift performed 'All Too Well' on the SNL stage as the original film, written and directed by Taylor, played out on a screen behind her. Following her epic performance show host Colin Jost said, 'I think the lesson we all learned this week is never break up with Taylor Swift."
'All Too Well', in it's original format, came in at 5m29s long so her latest take on the much loved track is nearly twice as long. Twice the time in which Taylor Swift can impart her feelings on the break-up of her short lived relationship with (allegedly) Jake Gyllenhaal. Twice the time in which the film's original stars, Sadie Sink and Dylan O'Brien can recreate the biographical saga that Swift verses so well.
Following her ground breaking performance on the SNL stage Taylor Swift was joined at the after show party by friends, Blake Lively ('Gossip Girl'), her husband Ryan Reynolds ('Deadpool') and award winning actress Anya Taylor-Joy ('The Queen's Gambit'). All four A-List guests arrived at New York's L'Avenue together and all looked suitably dapper, including Taylor who wore a black and white houndstooth coat.
'Red' is the latest of Swift's albums to get a new lease of life as Taylor endeavours to take back control over her extensive back catalogue. Recorded originally in 2012, 'Red' is one of Swift's most popular releases and it's new, 30 track, version will undoubtedly please her hoards of fans.
