Judges ruled in favour of making same-sex marriage a legal right across all 50 U.S. states, and the Tony Award winner decided to mark the historic day by tying the knot with Kirdahy five years after their first wedding ceremony.

The couple called on a special friend to officiate the ceremony - Kirdahy's college roommate, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio.

Kirdahy took to Twitter.com to share a photo of himself sharing a smooch with MCNally on the steps of City Hall as De Blasio smiled behind them.

He added the caption, "We got re-married by my college roommate @BilldeBlasio #pride".

Kirdahy and MCNally, who recently collaborated on Broadway show The Visit, were united in a civil ceremony in 2001, and officially married in 2010, when gay marriage was legalised in Washington, D.C.
