This year’s ‘Children In Need’ has raised a record amount for charity with the total reaching £46,624,259 by the end of Friday night’s show.

Last night’s telethon was the first since the death of long time presenter Sir Terry Wogan earlier this year. Wogan had presented his last ‘Children In Need’ in 2014, before poor health forced him to step down as host.

During the show Wogan’s son Mark, alongside host Graham Norton, presented the first annual Sir Terry Wogan Fundraiser Of The Year award.

Speaking about his father’s love for the show, Mark said: “It was his favourite night of the year, mainly because the money raised tonight and throughout the year actually made a difference to people who needed it -and that’s why he loved it.

“But on a personal note, my mother Helen, Katherine, Alan and I just wanted to say thank you, for all the letters, the cards, and all the amazing tributes – we are hugely grateful as a family.”

The award was presented to Lachlan Muir, a schoolboy from West Lothian who raised money by posting as a human statue.

The show also featured a sketch starring Eddie Redmayne, with the actor trying to contact Pudsey Bear.

But sadly for Eddie, Mel and Sue were haplessly manning the BBC switchboard and kept putting him through to the wrong people.

Other stars to feature in the sketch included, Jamie Dornan, Simon Cowell, Peter Capaldi, Sir Alan Sugar and even Britney Spears.
