Gia's condition failed to improve despite medics' intervention and the decision was made to halt life support attempts. Her mother and boyfriend were at her side when she passed away in hospital and have confirmed Allemand's death. Just days before her attempted hanging, Gia was pictured out and about; looking happy with her boyfriend and attending a Herbal Essences event. It is believed that Gia's attempt to commit suicide as a result of a rocky relationship with her boyfriend Ryan, who plays for the New Orleans Pelicans, though this not confirmed.

Anderson, an NBA star, released a statement describing his lost girlfriend: "Gia was the most beautiful person I knew inside and out and she always smiled and made everyone else around her smile. She had such an amazing impact on my life and anyone that knew her was blessed."

No one has so far claimed to have had any indiction of Gia's actions but she tweeted a bible proverb on Sunday saying "Proverbs 21:3 "Doing what is right and fair pleases The Lord more than an offering." She also posted a strange Instagram photo on the same day showing a ghostly photo of trees with the words "Legend says, when you can't sleep at night, it's because you're awake in someone else's dream" printed over the top. It has been suggested that the tweet and photo were symbolic of Gia's state of mind or even, a call for help.

Having been a model for most of her teenage years, Allemand's television career began when she was selected to appear as a cast member on ABC's reality dating show, The Bachelor: On The Wings of Love, where she and 24 other women competed for the attention of a male pilot. Pavelka, the pilot who did not eventually choose Allemand, has nevertheless tweeted his anguish of the loss: "I had to pull over, I can't stop crying. We have lost an angel" and described Gia as "one of the sweetest women I know."

A statement on behalf of Allemand's devastated family has been released through a representative, saying "Ms. Allemand passed away peacefully with her mother, boyfriend, and other life-long friends by her side. As a practicing Christian, Gia did receive the sacrament of last rites.Loved ones and fans will remember Gia Allemand as a caring woman who loved her family and was well-known for her compassion towards animals and mission to rescue homeless pets."

"Funeral arrangements will be forthcoming in another official statement once available,' the statement added, as reported by The Daily Mail. "On behalf of the family, we sincerely ask for privacy at this time."
