Gia Allemand has passed away at a New Orleans hospital after committing what seems to be a successful suicide attempt. The former contestant on the bachelor was found unconscious in her home by boyfriend Ryan Anderson, who immediately took her to a local hospital where she was placed on a life support machine. She was taken off life support after suffering "critical loss of brain and organ function" on Wednesday 14 August.

Gia gave no indication that she might want to take her own life.

The reality television beauty was found by her NBA-star boyfriend Anderson hanging by her neck when he arrived home on Monday (12 August). The 29-year-old was then rushed to University Hospital in New Orleans and placed on a life support machine for two days, but sadly the doctor's attempts to revive her were in vain and she passed away on Wednesday morning. Her family released a statement later that day confirming her death, saying that Allemand had died peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones.

“Ms. Allemand passed away peacefully with her mother, boyfriend and other lifelong friends by her side,” the statement said - reprinted by New York Daily News. “As a practicing Christian, Gia did received the sacrament of last rites.”

Her boyfriend Anderson, with whom she was supposedly in a rocky patch with in their relationship, had nothing but loving and positive things to say about his tragic girlfriend. He released a statement saying, “I’m deeply grateful for all the love and support we have received from family, friends and fans. Gia was the most beautiful person I knew inside and out, and she always smiled and made everyone else around her smile. She had such an amazing impact on my life and anyone that knew her was blessed. All I have left is to cherish those memories we made together and help perpetuate the many values, faith and love that we shared.”

Allemand first found fame as a model for Maxim, but was given even more exposure when she competed on season 14 of The Bachelor in 2010, in which she made it all the way to the final, before losing out on Jake Pavelka's red rose to Vienna Girardi. She contributed to future seasons of the show and the spin-offs The Bachelorette and The Bachelor Pad following her time on the show and continued to model too. At the time of her death, she gave friends and family no indication that she might be struggling with depression, making her passing all the more inexplainable and heartbreaking.

Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends at this difficult time.
