The new season of The Bachelorette has begun. If you've not seen it yet, beware, we have Bachelorette Emily Spoilers in here. Emily Maynard is on the hunt for a new spouse and her past is a complex one. She was once engaged to the NASCAR driver Ricky Hendrick, who was tragically killed in a plane accident in 2004. The week after he passed away, she discovered that she was pregnant with his child. So, Emily is now a single mom to her daughter Ricki, who is 6 years old. So the 25 men all looking to persuade her to take their hand in marriage not only have to be the perfect husband - they need to be a damn fine father figure, too.
It's a tall order, but on the first show, they were all there, ready with their chat-up lines, trying to make a great first impression. Emily was greeted with a range of bizarre gifts and messages from the men, after she announced "like a lot of girls, I've had my heart broken. And it's hard to put yourself out there again, but you have to. You've got to put on your big girl panties and move on with it."
Not deterred by the thought of the big girl panties, some of the men provided some memorable impressions for Emily. Travis brought an ostrich egg as "a symbol" of Emily and her daughter. "Throughout this journey, I will take care of this egg like I will take care of you and Ricki." Here's hoping it's hard-boiled. Tony, from Oregon, gave her a single shoe, proclaiming to be her Prince Charming. Presumably he's keeping hold of the other shoe in case he doesn't get picked. And Aaron brought the cliché, telling her "I'm a high school biology teacher, but I'm here to have chemistry with you." Thank goodness he's not teaching creative writing.
