Dirty Words

I had no idea what was coming to me when I initially played this CD. Listening to this quite simply stunning debut album was a sure fire pleasure. What struck me primarily was the unexpected funky guitar parts, not just funky but dark and rather macabre at the same time. Similar to the felling you get from all those classic Cure tunes that are both aesthetically depressing but reassuringly uplifting at the same time.

Music like this helps bring people together and breaks the door down for a massive cult status. To me it sounds almost like they have been locked up in a room for all their short lives and been

subjected to playing their instruments to the sound of pure evil with a dash of optimism.

This recipe sure would make most peoples mouths water, and it has mine. It sounds like the noise The Bravery would make in a fight with current tour mates The Killers. David Jones vocals sound as if he has been dragged violently back to the 80’s and slung into the 90’s with a gigantic burning slingshot set on fire by the Vikings. Angular, sharp, off tempo, raw-boned, gaunt riffs make this sound like no other in the current trend of Retro Rockers with no spunk to back up the ego’s which are the sizes of two thousand fat slags.

Singles from the album such as ‘Be My Enemy’ and ‘All Mapped Out’ have been an awesome success seeing as this band only got together in January 2004. Tumbling yet precise drumming, dual peak edgy guitaring together with the distinctive vocals sound all rather raucous. Lets just hope The Bravery don’t turn up, then we will see who really is brave.
