Black Tape

Not to be confused with the old school hard core punk of The Exploited, The Explosion has a slightly lighter tone to it and by that I mean ALOT lighter. This sounds almost like a cross between a snotty and heavier Busted with all those Fat Wreck Records type bands like NOFX, and Millencolin with Earth Vs The Wildhearts type choruses. This is not however a bad thing if you like your music with a youthful punk-ass kick to it, with new bands such as Good Charlotte and Afi ripping the air waves this all seems very apt to the current music trend. Whereas bands like Charlotte and Afi are putting an element of Goth and credibility to their own brand of mainstream friendly punk, The

Explosion seem like a good step up for Ex-Busted fans to get into a more sincere and punkish territory. It sounds awful to compare them to a heavier Busted bar the cheese, but I am sure this will appeal to the very youthful.

The songs on this album are shouty, loud, and raw. The fist couple of seconds of the first track Deliver Us has feedback almost identical to that of Nirvana’s School which I found the most interesting thing on the album. But to be honest after a while the whole album merges into one progressive teen punk nightmare. There is great room for improvement though for future releases, as from what I hear none of them have any problems with the instrument they are controlling. Good if you like this sort of thing but not an essential release for mature punk people.
