Maybe because the songs of this EP have been synchronised with adverts such as Coca-Cola, Pringles, Lux, BMW, Audi (you name it), someone might already be familiar with this utterly original seven piece ensemble, all of it - or part of it, that is to be discovered - hailing from Germany. What is certain is that Mr. Frank Popp has been a DJ for at least half of his life, and that he’s been so obsessed by 60’s and 70’s sounds to spend a long time spinning funk and soul vinyls all over Berlin clubs. His music is rich and varied, and highly
enjoyable. Tracks such as ‘Goo Goo Muck’, featuring a splendid vocal performance by soul diva Sam Leigh Brown and a Jerry Lee Lewis piano solo, are representative of that 60’s so dearly loved Motown influence. Finally, ‘The Stalker Pt. 1’, a twelve bar blues with disco beats introduced by a diabolical laugh, you could imagine as the perfect 70’s TV series soundtrack. A truly remarkable set of songs, hopefully gaining a new audience in the UK.
