Miss Piggy and Kermit The Frog will be among the presenters at this year's Academy Awards. Organisers announced on Friday (17 Feb 2012) that Miss Piggy and Kermit The Frog will be presenting an award.
The felted Muppets will be joining the likes of Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie and Tom Hanks to hand out a prize at the ceremony which will take place on February 26th (2012) in Los Angeles. The Muppets have enjoyed a huge surge in popularity recently after 'The Muppets' returned to cinema screens in the hit film, which also starred Amy Adams and Jason Segal. Grossing over £200 million worldwide, the theme song "Man or Muppet", written by 'Flight of the Concords' star BRET MCKENZIE, was actually nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. This will be the fifth time that The Muppets have made an appearance at the Academy Awards. The Academy finally decided to include them after the Twitter pleas of fans as well as well-known industry figures like Judd Apatow who wanted to see the Muppets on the show.
Miss Piggy recently also appeared at the British Academy Film Awards where she hosted a red carpet show, winning praise for her incisive interviews and turning heads with a Louis Vuitton gown. 'The Muppets' is being shown on cinemas all across the UK now.
