The Noisettes Scratch Your Name Single

Scratch Your Name is the somewhat disappointing follow up to The Noisettes' fabulous single Sister Rosetta. It's the same thing, rhythmic verses building up to a huge monster of a chorus, only Scratch Your Name never really builds, and the monster turns out to be one of those T-Rex sponges your gran bought you as a kid.

Shingai Shoniwa's voice is unfaultable as usual, and there's some nice bass and guitar mingling near the start, but it's a weak choice for a single, and certainly doesn't capture the energy and eccentricity of their famous live performance. On their day, The Noisettes are one of the most promising new bands in the country. Unfortunately, for both them and us, this is not their day.

5/10
