Foo Fighters The Pretty Reckless Mogwai

The normally uneventful month of February saw a lot more activity than the norm as 2021 saw significant signs of hope and optimism begin to appear. The United States Of America welcomed incoming president Joe Biden as he set about reversing the policies of his impeached predecessor. The UK vigorously set about implementing their vaccination programme and managed to give 20 million people their first jab by the end of February. A 'road map' out of the pandemic was announced inspiring some festivals, including Reading & Leeds and Creamfields to confirm that this years events would go ahead. The US had it's Super Bowl, including a pre-show by Miley Cyrus that had an audience of specially invited, inoculated, health workers to a Tik-Tok Tailgate Party

Taylor Swift announced that she would be re-recording her first six albums as she sets about reclaiming ownership of her songs, Billie Eilish was the subject of an Amazon interview, Britney Spears was the subject of a Sky documentary and the allegations against the now disgraced shock-rocker Marilyn Manson continued to mount. Sia drew criticism for her Golden Globe award nominated film debut Music but Andra Day triumphed, winning the Best Actress award for her lead role in The United States vs. Billie Holiday. And so, with winners in mind, here's our top-five musical favourites from February.

From Cindy Lou In The Grinch To Hard Rock Vocalist In The Pretty Reckless: The Incredible Career Of Taylor Momsen

Taylor Momsen The Pretty Reckless

With Christmas Day (December 25th) right around the corner, we imagine countless families will be rooting through their drawers of DVDs to pull out modern classics, including The Grinch, which stars Jim Carrey in the titular role and a very young Taylor Momsen as six-year-old Cindy Lou.

Adorable from the moment you meet her, she’s the youngster responsible for melting the Grinch’s heart of ice, bringing him into the community of Whoville despite his confronting green furry skin, vicious personality and multiple attempts to steal Christmas from the jolly town.

Download Festival 2014 Review

Download Festival 2014 was a tamer affair than in previous years, largely owing to the event's tightened alcohol and drugs searches, bands being instructed not to encourage the crowds to mosh, more mainstream main stage headliners, fewer boobs being shown on the live camera feed, and the sombre tone of the renamed 'Stephen Sutton Stage'. Instead of holding a silence for the cancer-struck teen, festival attendees took part in a minute of respectful applause, which was paralleled by comedy pop punk band Bowling For Soup's tribute to the late comic, Rik Mayall.

Download Festival 2014 Review

In memoriam sections aside, the festival managed to transform what could be perceived as a weaker line-up compared to its preceding year into a three-day celebration of a broad range of the rock spectrum, filled with bespoke performance gems and quality heavy metal memories. First night closers Avenged Sevenfold brought a larger stage to Donington than they'd ever taken out of the US and combined imposing crypt-inspired adornments with an explosive set that proved on a world stage that they are worthy successors to titans Metallica and Iron Maiden.

The beady-eyed punter will have had a ball spotting the odd and hilarious happenings across the weekend, including a "face-melting" washboard solo from Berlin faux cowboys The BossHoss, punk's immature popsters Bowling For Soup asking a knight to decapitate a giant inflatable sheep, full contact medieval fighting from Battle Heritage, and Killswitch Engage's Jesse Leach inviting the crowd to "dance responsibly" to a particularly heavy breakdown. Ribs were probably broken in the latter instance.

Isle of Wight Festival 2014 Review

If there's something to take away from this year's Isle of Wight Festival, it's probably sunburn. Unlike the mud bath of two years ago, 2014 will be remembered for serving up one of the hottest weekends I can remember for a festival, along with some crowd-pleasing performances. While not every act managed to capture their moment in the sun, all the major names delivered in spades.

Isle of Wight Festival 2014 Review

But it wasn't just the music that made the weekend for many; a real sense of celebration seemed to erupt across the site. Partly fuelled by anticipation over the World Cup and partly because of the good weather, thousands of smiling faces could be seen everywhere. Sunflowers seemed to be an essential festival accessory and many opted for as few clothes as possible with t-shirts looking like they'd gone out of fashion altogether. I've even had to make a note in my diary that it's international flip-flop day on June 20th, just one of the many things I learnt around Seaclose Park this year.

The highlight of Friday afternoon should have really been local boy Tom Odell on the main stage. But his piano led ballads took some time to win the crowd over despite his number 1 album 'Long Way Down'. By the time he'd finished though, the reaction showed that he'd justified his place on the main stage billing.

The Isle of Wight Festival 2014 is underway and it’s looking like it’s set to be a scorcher of a weekend! The Met Office has forecasted dry and sunny weather with temperatures reaching 22°C.  British festival-goers will have their fingers crossed that this unusual weather carries on for the rest of festival season, although that may be seriously wishful thinking.  With Glastonbury right around the corner we can only hope that the typical torrential rain of festival season doesn't start to set in.

Scheduled to appear tonight at the Isle of Wight Festival are big name acts Biffy Clyro, Calvin Harris, Rudimental, Tom Odell, Starsailer and Lawson, with Katy B appearing at the Big Top. The rest of the weekend is jam-packed acts including the eagerly awaited Red Hot Chili Peppers, who will take to the main stage on Saturday night. Saturday also belongs to Cher Lloyd, Dappy and The Pretty Reckless among other acts.

Pretty Reckless: The Evolution Of Taylor Momsen

Taylor Momsen The Pretty Reckless

From little Cindy Lou in ‘The Grinch’ to 'Gossip Girl's' Jenny Humphries to now fully fledged rock frontwoman with The Pretty Reckless Taylor Momsen has had quite the career evolution before our very eyes. Now with her band's second album 'Going to Hell' being released Momsen might finally be getting the rock and roll recognition she's been longing for. So how did the little girl who tamed the 'Grinch' end up fronting a rock band?

Taylor Momsen's entry into showbusiness started before she could even say anything about it, when her parents signed her up to Ford Modelling agency at the age of two. It's something that Taylor has since spoken out about saying, 'no 2-year-old wants to be working, but I had no choice. My whole life, I was in and out of school. I didn’t have friends. I was working constantly and I didn’t have a real life.’ Still she doesn't regret her parent's decision. Small parts in commercials followed but it wasn’t until 2000 that Taylor would land her breakout acting role.

The Pretty Reckless New Album: Are Critics Rocking Out To 'Going To Hell'? [Video]

The Pretty Reckless Taylor Momsen

The Pretty Reckless' new album, Going To Hell, was released last Friday (14th March) which has given critics ample time to mull over the new offering from Taylor Momsen's rock band. Known for her role in catty girl drama series Gossip Girl, 20 year-old Momsen hardest job has been shaking off the shackles of her wide-eyed teenage dream and re-inventing herself as a badass frontwoman with a debt to the devil, with an image that can often seem like overkill.

Whilst critics aren't blind to The Pretty Reckless' high prioritisation of their devil-may-care attitude and look, it's pretty clear that Going To Hell isn't too bad on the ears either. The album picks up from where 2010's Light Me Up left off but introduces a more mature songwriting style and enhanced vocals from the distinctively-voiced Momsen. The band's efforts on the debut may have been little more than backing music for Taylor's powerful voice but Going To Hell sees Ben, Mark and Jamie's skills better utilised and foregrounded.

Video - Taylor Momsen Dancing With 2 Youngs Girls On Stage

Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless dancing with 2 very young girls in bras on stage at C-Club in Tempelhof. One of the girls said "Taylor, I want to f**k you" during a silent moment in between two songs which prompted Momsen to get the girls on stage on the basis that they take their shirts off.
