Over 10 million people tuned in to watch the finale of Breaking Bad on Sunday (September 29, 2013). 83 million people tuned in to discover who shot J.R, while 19.8 million simply couldn't wait to find out who gunned down Phi Mitchell on Eastenders.

The SimpsonsWhich Simpsons Character Will Be Killed Off?

Now, millions are expected to tune in to discover which major character from The Simpsons will be killed off, with bookmakers are already taking bets on the subject.

In a conference call with reporters last week, executive producer Al Jean revealed the plans, saying, "We're actually working on a script where a character will pass away.I'll give a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won't say who it is."

The Simpsons's voice actors have won tons of Individual Outstanding Voice-Over Performance awards, including Nancy Cartwright (1992), Dan Castellaneta (1992, 1993, 2004, 2009), Julie Kavner (1992), Jackie Mason (1992), Yeardley Smith (1992), Marcia Wallace (1992), Hank Azaria (1998, 2001, 2003), Kelsey Grammar (2006) and Anne Hathaway (2010) - so rounding down the characters is difficult.

However, based on that clue, Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has put together a series of odds, claiming to have taken a massive bet on Comic Book Guy which saw his odds tumble from 50/1 to 3/1.

Paddy Power has history with The Simpsons, and it wasn't pretty for the bookmaker. When the long-running sitcom was asking "Who shot Mr Burns?" Paddy Power naively offered baby Maggie Simpson at 500/1. Several students from Dublin figured out that, given The Simpsons is a cartoon, anything can happen, and promptly staked hundreds of pounds on it. When Maggie was indeed discovered as the shooter, the gang won over £20,000, leaving a local newspaper to run with the headline, "Paddy Power caught with nappy down."

On offering the latest odds, a Paddy Power spokesperson said: "Ay, caramba! Last time we opened the betting on The Simpsons Maggie cleared us out after she shot Mr. Burns. The latest installment is shaping up to be the biggest whodunnit since OJ and his rubber glove."

The booker is currently offering Abe Simpson - Homer's Dad - as the 5/2 favorite, probably due to the way in which Al Jean used the phrase "passed away," though Barney Gumble is available at 3/1 if you fancy his liver will finally pack in. Next up is Sideshow Bob at 5/1, miss Edna Krabappel at 6/1, Police Chief Wiggum at 8/1 and Disco Stu at 50/1. Unsurprisingly, Homer himself is available at 200/1, though perhaps more value likes in the cause of death. Paddy has revenge murder at 5/1, radiation poisoning at 6/1, a broken heart at 50/1 and donut overdose at 66/1.
