The Voodoo Trombone Quartet ...Again Album

I think the best way to describe this album is like a chocolate spread and piccalilli sandwich. It doesn't really seem too sure of what it is. one flavour you like, one you are not too sure of. Is it quite funky electronic music, or is it a lightweight attempt at ska?

The album opens up with 'Vibrations' a straightforward electronic type track that is quite funky, the sort of music you hear in the cool bars, like where I hang round with all the cool people.. .. it features some horn samples, some nice guitar work and some cracking beats, all good here then. But then the next track 'South Westerly' sounds like an attempt at ska or even Stereo MC's. Then we go back to some cool electronic/ambient music in 'My Name In Food'.

The problem with this album is that you could pop it on whilst you were driving about, one minute you would look cool with your shades on and the window down, then the next track you would be winding up the window due to embarrassment. Then you would be winding the window down for the next track, and so on, you would have a muscular right arm however.. If you haven't already ;).

The cover of '(Hey You) The Rocksteady Crew' is OK I suppose, but its not going to get any airplay. 'Chinese Burns For Free' is another good electronic type track and 'Honey Bee' with its samples is also a good track.

Personally, what I would do is pick the better tracks off the album and release it as an EP, possibly called the Chocolate Spread EP. Then, just ditch the Picallilli EP.

Rating: 5/10
