Worrying news for fans of The Wanted, the group themselves, and more importantly, Nathan Sykes. It’s been confirmed by the boy group’s press management that the singer has been forced to book in surgery on his throat in an effort to save his voice.

According to the band’s publicist, “The Wanted's Nathan Sykes will under go specialist throat surgery on Thursday 18th April in Los Angeles and as such will be taking unforeseen hiatus from The Wanted.” Bad news for Nathan, as tomorrow happens to be his birthday. “The priority for Nathan, his label and management is that he is given time to recover and receive the best treatment possible” the statement continued. “The remaining four members of The Wanted will continue fulfilling the bands promotional commitments across the world.”

The group have a number of live engagements to fulfill this year, which the Independent has confirmed will still take place but without Sykes. It’s a blow for the group, though, who’ve been following their peers One Direction in making major inroads on the United States after storming the UK with two number one hits and a platinum selling second album in Battleground. They had hoped to be back in the studio to record their third album, though this will of course now not be possible for the foreseeable future.
