Review of Just Like A Drummer EP by The Wave Pictures

Having previously had the pleasure of working with the likes of John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats and anti-folk outfit Herman Dune, London based trio The Wave Pictures can already boast an impressive musical CV.
Not one to rest on their laurels, The Wave Pictures have several previous albums in the locker, and this latest release on Moshi Moshi sees the band throw down a collection of six charmingly simplistic lo-fi pop songs.
With a generous serving of quirkiness and wit applied, both the lyrics and vocals carry a very distinctive quality that shines through. The strongest moments arrive with the memorable title track âJust Like A Drummerâ the high-tempo âHotels And Motelsâ and the reflective melancholy of closer âDust Off Your Heartâ.
The Just Like A Drummer EP might not reach the towering standards of The Mountain Goats or Herman Dune, but that doesnât detract from the fact that itâs still a decent release, well worth your time. Check it out.
