It's official Beetlejuice 2 could be an actuality! Tim Burton is in talks with Warner Bros. for a sequel to the 1988 classic, sources confirm to a US entertainment website.

For anyone who has never seen the hit film, starring Michael Keaton, a married couple (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) discover they are dead and have to deal with the living that moves into their home. In a desperate attempt to remove the Deetz family (played by Catherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones and Winona Ryder), the couple call upon ghost miracle-worker Beetlejuice (Keaton).

Beetlejuice, despite being created 25 years ago, remains in popular culture having inspired an animated series which ran from 1989-1992. With considerable developments in animation since the crude graphics of the 80s, Burton will be able to stretch, even further, his quirky and distinctive styling.

Michael Keaton
Michael Keaton could be reprising his role as Beetlejuice.

A number of individuals, speaking to The Wrap, have confirmed talks are underway. This follows rumours last week that Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children may not be Burton's next project. However, Beetlejuice 2 may not be Keaton's next film as talks are still in their early stages. Burton has long been interested directing a sequel so fortunately his interest is "no mere flirtation anymore."

Keaton -should the film go ahead- will reprise his role as the black and white striped suit wearing spirit. Whilst other parties who were involved in the original film will also be involved, these include the production company The Geffen Company. Others rumoured to be involved are Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) who wrote the script is also producing. David Katzenberg will also be producing.
