Hollywood filmmaker Tim Burton has been announced as switching on this year’s Blackpool Illuminations on September 4th. The director is said to be a big fan of Blackpool and has used the seaside town as the backdrop for his latest film Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children, which stars Samuel L. Jackson, Rupert Everett and Eva Green.

Councillor Gillian Campbell, deputy leader of the town's council, said, "Having one of the most famous film directors in the world turn on the Blackpool Illuminations is a major coup and shows the high regard the town is held in the hearts of our famous visitors."

"We know he is a huge fan of Blackpool and we are delighted that he has agreed to switch the Illuminations on for us on the biggest night of Blackpool's year. This is gearing up to be one of the best switch-on events we have ever had,” the councillor added.

Burton has previously described himself as ‘Blackpool Pleasure Beach's biggest fan’ and arrived in the seaside town earlier this year to shoot scenes for Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children. He also previously visited Blackpool to shoot scenes for The Killers’ music video 'Here With Me' in 2012.

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children is set for release on March 6th 2016 and is based on the 2011 novel of the same name by Ransom Riggs. It enters on a teenager named Jacob who helps a group of peculiar orphan children at Miss Peregrine's School for Peculiar Children fight off danger while searching for clues surrounding his parents death. The film stars Samuel L. Jackson, Rupert Everett, Eva Green, Asa Butterfield,, Terence Stamp Dame Judi Dench and Chris O’Dowd.
