Tim Robbins, the American actor and star of 'The Shawshank Redemption', has suffered double heartache after his mother passed away on Sunday (17th April 2011), just 12 days after his father died of prostate cancer. Tim Robbins' mother, the musician Mary Robbins passed away from a heart arrhythmia, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Robbins' parents both died at their family home in Esteban Cantu, Mexico. They had been married for 59 years and were both professional musicians in the 1950's and 1960's. Gil was once a member of the popular folk band The Highwaymen. The Associated Press quote actor Tim as saying his mother "had a calm and cheerful demeanor, a sharp wit, a gentle spirit and a generous and loving heart". Speaking of his father Gil, Robbins told the Los Angeles Times, "He was very charming, open and funny. He had a real strong moral center, he spoke up for what he believed in". Mary Robbins, who studied music at the University of California, successfully battled colon cancer through nutrition and alternative medicines and later earned a second degree in holistic nutrition.
Tim Robbins is rumoured to be appearing in the forthcoming family movie 'Keeper of the Pinstripes', with Josh Lucas and Luis Guzman. The film, inspired by true events, follows the story of 13-year-old Ray Moretti whose life is turned upside down when he is caught trespassing at the Yankee Stadium in New York.
